Omg! Amazon driver just tried to come into my house!!!

So I’m sat at home, on my own, reading.
Suddenly my front door is VERY forcibly trying to be opened, it made a huge racket and I immediately thought someone was trying to break in!
The door wasn’t locked, but thankfully I have a child safety latch on the door, which I always use.
I go to the door and can see through the glass it’s an Amazon delivery man.
I open the door, and ask what the hell he is doing, trying to get into my house.
He replies he does it all the time, and it’s my fault as my settings on Amazon say front door/porch.
I am fuming at this point, and tell him it’s totally unacceptable, I’m at home alone, and never have I had someone try to enter my house before to deliver a parcel!
After a few more choice words from me, he gives me the parcel and says he will be reporting ME!
Obviously I immediately reported it to Amazon, who are taking it very seriously.
As I said to them, I’m an assertive person who can stand up for themselves, what if the homeowner had been someone more vulnerable?
So am I being unreasonable to expect that delivery men DONT try to access your property?!

I don't understand why you've been given such a hard time tonight OP. This would also have disturbed me, particularly in view of the fact that you are a childminder.
No one suspected that Wayne Cousins (friendly local copper on the surface of it) would be capable of murder but it happened.
You did well to report it.

Xenia · 11/10/2025 22:24

Mine is always locked even if we are in. Amazon I don't think give an option in our case of leaving post and parcels in the metal box by door or on step (we have no letter box) and I have never had a driver trying to get in. They usually ring the bell andin 30 seconds I have the door opened

MyCrushWithEyeliner · 11/10/2025 22:27

BunnyLake · 11/10/2025 19:11

Mine says front door/porch but the porch is quite clearly just a wooden type canopy over the top of the front door and the front door is very clearly the front door. Not once in 15 years has a delivery driver tried to get into my house, they know the instruction means to leave it by the front door. He should have knocked on the door or rang the doorbell.

Same. I’d be freaked out if someone was trying to open the front door.

DreamyTealGuide · 11/10/2025 22:28

The wine is an excellent idea OP, but try not to over do it! 🍷

😂😂

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 11/10/2025 22:22

Actually, you should check back, because your settings did not say outside the front door, they said ‘front door/porch’.

And I would have been fine, thanks, because I know when I have ordered something from Amazon, and I read the emails that tell me when to expect delivery of said order.

Oh, and I always lock my door, as that is the purpose of a lock - to stop people from attempting to enter, unless invited. It’s what the police advise.

This is getting so boring now.
But I will reiterate, again.
My latch was on.
Yes I was expecting a delivery, within a four hour window.
The attempted opening of my front door was very aggressive, and I had no idea who it was.
My settings say if I wasn’t in, to leave OUTSIDE front door.
It honestly has left me incredulous how many women think it’s perfectly acceptable to have a complete stranger try to open your front door, whilst you are inside your home, without trying to knock first.
Do none of you get how vulnerable that makes you feel?
My house is my safe place, someone trying to enter it without my permission is obviously distressing.
MN is nuts!

The posters who are trying to insinuate the wine has got to me are so disappointing.

Delivery man tries door, despite instructions requesting that if owner is not in, items to be left outside door.
Owner is in, delivery man just didn’t bother knocking on door.
Wine is not the problem here.
Your reading and comprehension skills however?
Questionable.

There, there 🤗

Rainymoondays · 11/10/2025 22:38

I’m confused why you opened the door when you thought a strange man was trying to break in. Also confused as to why you think being an ‘outspoken person’ is a protective quality. Do women who get attacked somehow ‘ask for it’

Notmyreality · 11/10/2025 22:39

Here we go again. We really have run out of original post ideas haven’t we?

R0ckandHardPlace · 11/10/2025 22:39

I wonder if all these Mumsnetters who are happy to have a stranger wander into their homes off the streets would be so blasé if he attempted to use their toilet? 😂

Jewel52 · 11/10/2025 22:42

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 18:13

He didn’t knock, he didn’t use my doorbell, he tried very forcibly to enter my property, using such force that I thought someone was trying to break in.
You can’t see that it was very unsettling for me, as a woman at home alone?
A complete stranger trying to enter my house?
Thankfully Amazon have taken it a lot more seriously, and are starting a formal complaint process against the driver.

If someone is meaning you harm, aren’t they more likely to be quiet and stealthy? And they were delivering an item on behalf of a company you’d ordered from so where do you think the threat lay here? You are overreacting and seem to need validation. You claim Amazon took your worries seriously so what further support are you expecting on here?

Strangerthanfictions · 11/10/2025 22:43

INX · 11/10/2025 17:52

It depends.

Does the front door lead to a porch and is that what you have in your delivery details?

To be fair on the driver it doesn't matter if the door actually leads to a porch, if she's put leave in porch on her instructions it's very reasonable that he's trying to open the door to find this porch

Yet in your first post you confirmed that the delivery man read out your settings from his own device and said differently. So you are coming across as unreasonable about him. Maybe your settings are wrong or maybe amazon's system has made a mistake but you seem very determined to lay all the blame on him. If his device mentions the porch then he hasn't done anything wrong.

Delivery people don't spend time surveying the exterior of a property trying to determine if there is actually a porch behind a door. If their device says porch they think its there.

Rainymoondays · 11/10/2025 22:44

Do you tell the parents of your childminded kids that you don’t lock the door?

Mrsknowitall · 11/10/2025 22:44

DavidKeanu · 11/10/2025 18:04

You can't leave the door unlocked AND complain when someone comes through it 🤣

She absolutely can leave her door unlocked and complain if someone tries to come through it!!! It’s her bloody house, we should be allowed to leave it unlocked without fear of someone coming in, granted that’s not the world we live in now but she does have every right to complain

The post asking if posters were drunk was written by YOU...

but never mind 😂

Mrsknowitall · 11/10/2025 22:48

I can’t believe the replies on this thread! In what world are you all living in thinking it’s ok for delivery drivers to actually open someone’s front door, it’s common sense that if the delivery options say front door/porch then you either leave it outside the front door or in a porch (if you see the house has one) a front door and porch door look completely different.

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 22:51

Rainymoondays · 11/10/2025 22:44

Do you tell the parents of your childminded kids that you don’t lock the door?

Why would I ?
As the latch (clearly!) works to stop anyone entering.
But thanks for completely avoiding the point of the thread 😂

Once again, that’s exactly what my instructions say.
Leave outside front door.

Youve changed your tune. Cos in your OP, you said the delivery driver has the instructions as “front door/porch” so why would that be? Who types in the delivery instructions? Hmm

They think a porch is there?
Despite the evidence of their own eyes?
Despite instructions clearly stating leave outside front door/porch???
Wow what in the Harry Potter is going on here?!

Doesn’t bother me when this happens. I’d rather the parcel was in doors and not left outside.

You can’t instruct delivery drivers just to leave outside anyway

I don’t need further support.
I posted as I thought it was completely unreasonable to expect an Amazon delivery bloke to try to access my property.
And I certainly don’t need sarcastic, condescending replies such as yours.
