Omg! Amazon driver just tried to come into my house!!!

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 17:50

So I’m sat at home, on my own, reading.
Suddenly my front door is VERY forcibly trying to be opened, it made a huge racket and I immediately thought someone was trying to break in!
The door wasn’t locked, but thankfully I have a child safety latch on the door, which I always use.
I go to the door and can see through the glass it’s an Amazon delivery man.
I open the door, and ask what the hell he is doing, trying to get into my house.
He replies he does it all the time, and it’s my fault as my settings on Amazon say front door/porch.
I am fuming at this point, and tell him it’s totally unacceptable, I’m at home alone, and never have I had someone try to enter my house before to deliver a parcel!
After a few more choice words from me, he gives me the parcel and says he will be reporting ME!
Obviously I immediately reported it to Amazon, who are taking it very seriously.
As I said to them, I’m an assertive person who can stand up for themselves, what if the homeowner had been someone more vulnerable?
So am I being unreasonable to expect that delivery men DONT try to access your property?!

Oh please.
I am none of those things.
If you are happy with random men trying to open your door then have at it.
”Ghastly” 😂😂😂😂😂

I'm not happy with random men trying to open my door either. That's why it is always locked.
A child safety latch is not the same as a lock.

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 21:43

cgwdwnmi · 11/10/2025 21:40

It has. I remember it too.
And the OP was told to lock the fucking door if she didn't want people opening it, then there were endless posts from her about how she didn't see why she should lock the door, people shouldn't be opening it etc.

This might not be the same OP but the thread's still going to go the same way.

Oh FFS
He couldn’t gain entry because the latch was on.

Really?
Well it stops my childminded children getting out and it stopped him getting him.
So pretty effective I’d say.

He didn’t knock, he didn’t use my doorbell, he tried very forcibly to enter my property, using such force that I thought someone was trying to break in.
You can’t see that it was very unsettling for me, as a woman at home alone?
A complete stranger trying to enter my house?
Thankfully Amazon have taken it a lot more seriously, and are starting a formal complaint process against the driver.

They’re really not. That’s just what they say to you to make you go away.

Where did I miss that he was IN the home?

Where did I miss that he even knew the OP was a woman, or a woman alone? Where did I miss that he had no idea the home owner was anything else than a 6ft tall bouncer 😂

Did I say he was in there? i did not.
I said A woman with a strange man in her home is vulnerable.
This isn't rocket science.

Where did I miss that he even knew the OP was a woman
Yeah I'm guessing those parcel labels with names and addresses on aren't any help at all.

So there's no problem then. He tried the door. Couldn't get in. The end.

I am feeling a bit upset that you will never accept to tell us why the LATCH is so important here 😂

he couldn't gain entry
ok.. but NOT because the door was locked, but because the LATCH was on. The difference is critical.

No one can come in either way, but it seems to change EVERYTHING. Fascinating 😂

Yes, absolutely acceptable for a random man to try to open a random door having no idea who may be inside their own home, quietly minding their own business.

Please gods tell me there is a secret couriers blacklist. Amazon used to ban customers who were too much hassle, don't know if they still do.

If you are fine with a man aggressively trying to open your door, then being antagonistic when challenged about it, no problem at all.
Strangely enough I prefer to differ.
But you do you!

I don't know why you are fixated with this LATCH issue, you are funny.

Reminds me of the snap and farted poster - who was not funny, but for her indignation and sense of self-importance.

EchoedSilence · 11/10/2025 21:55

He thought you had a porch. He just wanted to deliver your parcel. No need for all the dramatics.

cgwdwnmi · 11/10/2025 21:57

In the OP you say that he said the instructions were front door/porch, then later on you say they were "outside the front door".
Which is it?

EchoedSilence · 11/10/2025 21:58

Did you not track your parcel? You must have been expecting the delivery.

CherryBlossom321 · 11/10/2025 21:59

Delivery man tries door, believing he is following delivery instructions. Owner of house opens door and is apparently flustered and furious, offering a few “choice words”. Man explains that he is following delivery instructions. Home owner contacts retailer to complain. Home owner also asks on an open forum if she is being unreasonable. Members on forum offer a range of opinions, of course including ones in which they disagree. Home owner continues to post capital lettered, exclamation marked responses to those who disagree. She describes delivery man as “antagonistic” and “aggressive” but only following increased number of those who disagree.

The wine is an excellent idea OP, but try not to over do it! 🍷

Ttcgirl89 · 11/10/2025 22:02

When I was heavily pregnant I had a very large box of nappies delivered from Amazon. Delivery man knocked on the door, I opened it and he apologised that he wasn’t allowed to cross the front door threshold to put the nappies inside the house which was totally fine and reasonable to me and he just left them outside the front door (was too heavy for me to take them). So I’m not surprised Amazon is taking it seriously.

CinnamonBuns67 · 11/10/2025 22:02

Yanbu. If they are there to deliver a parcel they should knock. No answer? Leave and try again another time if no safe place. You just don't access someone's property without permission. Hope he gets sacked for that as he's gone way over the line.

Perhaps you should read your OWN original post, where YOU said ‘front door/porch’ NOT outside front door. And for goodness sake, lock your front door. What is the point of NOT locking it?

This.

Delivery man tries door, despite instructions requesting that if owner is not in, items to be left outside door.
Owner is in, delivery man just didn’t bother knocking on door.
Wine is not the problem here.
Your reading and comprehension skills however?
Questionable.

Another woman putting a woman down for feeling intimidated in her own home?

You clearly haven’t
I had a latch on, which is why he couldn’t get in.
The latch is always on, I’m a childminder so do it automatically.
No idea why you are being so aggressive?
Also if you have read my posts, you will see my delivery instructions are to leave outside the front door, if I’m not in.
Which I was.
Which he would have known if he had bothered to knock on the door.
But all of this is completely besides the point of the post, which is that he so aggressively tried to open the door that I thought someone was trying to break in, and obviously I was not aware that it was an Amazon delivery guy.
Please for one second try to put yourself in my shoes, a woman home alone, quietly reading, and suddenly a barrage on her front door.
That wouldn’t have frightened you and upset you?
Because if not, you are a braver woman than me!

Actually, you should check back, because your settings did not say outside the front door, they said ‘front door/porch’.

And I would have been fine, thanks, because I know when I have ordered something from Amazon, and I read the emails that tell me when to expect delivery of said order.

Oh, and I always lock my door, as that is the purpose of a lock - to stop people from attempting to enter, unless invited. It’s what the police advise.
