Surprised it took so long to be honest. With the disgusting crimes he committed I can’t imagine he’d go down well with the other prisoners.

I’m pretty sure he was seriously injured a while ago too. Must have been in the isolation wing or something since then.

Happyjoe · 11/10/2025 20:01

Costs about £50k per year per prisoner doesn't it? Think of all that money saved...

;)

CountryQueen · 11/10/2025 20:01

BatchCookBabe · 11/10/2025 19:57

No it's not.

Care to elaborate? 🤣

Is this HMP? “Mainstream” and “protection” are not terms I’ve ever known used.

The use of these terms suggests a different service, or private? Either way, most uk prisons don’t have the structure to be able to separate by offence. Of course, vulnerable prisoners will be sometimes kept on a VP unit or in segregation.

The poster was suggesting that they are automatically segregated by offence and that the offence itself is the indicator of their vulnerability. I don’t know what prison you used to work in but practically it’s not usually possible to keep them “strictly” separated.

And if that’s what PPs believe why are they all “give that man an OBE” and “let me thank and shake hands with that man” if it’s a given he’s also a sex offender? Bizarre.

I'm in Scotland, I worked in an HMP. There was very much one hall for protection, and 3 others for mainstream prisoners. They were never moved at the same time. There was also a top end and a segregation unit.

Sentencing remarks. Don't read them if you're feeling fragile. Some of it involves a ten-month-old baby.

no words
i can’t get this out of my head now. Horrific

I think it's pretty distasteful being sarcastic in this case.

If you think that's distasteful, best avoid social media for the memes that started dropping literally the moment the news hit.

HansHolbein · 11/10/2025 17:29

The court sentencing remarks were one of the worst things I ever read. Horrendous man. Good riddance.

What were they??

There'll be an enquiry. And a murder trial. That'll cost £££.

PrivateMusic · 11/10/2025 20:05

First time in a while that the news has made my day.

SorcererGaheris · 11/10/2025 20:06

CrystalShoe · 11/10/2025 19:51

Killed by a fellow inmate, too! Guess it's true what they say about child offenders being viewed as the lowest of the low in prison.

I love it when bad people use their dodgy skills for the greater good! 😂 Well done that murderer!

@CrystalShoe

Considering that child sex offenders are housed together, it's quite likely that Ian Watkins' murderer is also a child abuser.

UnctuousUnicorns · 11/10/2025 20:06

@Happyjoe "if someone had murdered Hitler when he was 18 years old, well.."

If you honestly think that the Third Reich, Nazism, WWII etc. wouldn't have happened had Hitler died young, you are very much mistaken.

Oh ok yeah, different kettle of fish in Scotland. Makes sense.

8000 prisoners makes segregation much easier vs 88000 prisoners in Victorian jails 😏 not to mention the difference in the way we categorise our prisoners in England and Wales.

Well I doubt the people locked up with him were prime examples of morals and values either.

Sometimes natural justice has its place.

ChamelalaBingBong · 11/10/2025 20:07

IdealisticCynic · 11/10/2025 18:39

I understand this is an unpopular opinion, but we don’t (for good reason) have capital punishment or allow mob justice here. So someone being killed in prison by another inmate is no reason to celebrate, no matter how horrific his crimes.

I am also of the view that living in prison is a greater punishment than death given the suffering it entails and all the time reflect on what one has done wrong, so again I don’t think this is the great news some do.

Strongly disagree to the first part.

Strongly agree to the second part... wish they'd have waited until his release date to kill him... but slowly and painfully.

This is simply bollocks. Sorry but there’s no other way to put it. Total bollocks.

It's not. Dh's father was a prison officer in a maximum security prison in the 90s and they had to keep paedophiles on different wings and away from other prisoners to prevent them getting attacked.

Wow, why isn't this reported anywhere else? I've just Googled and no recent search is coming up.

Good news if he is.

Edited

It's been on all the news programmes today. I'm amazed you've avoided it tbh.

DrowningInSyrup · 11/10/2025 20:09

BatchCookBabe · 11/10/2025 19:58

Is it though?

I think so, I'm finding the lols, laughing emoji and cracking open the champagne a lot to stomach. I'm glad the man is dead, but any joyous celebration regarding anything to do with this case seems a bit grotesque. Slashing someone's throat with a handmade blade is also a horrifically violent, depraved crime. Why anyone would want to shake the hand of someone who could do that is sickening. This thread is just showing how depraved society is in general.

I hope the victims find some sort of closure, and hopefully the huge swell of publicity and sm media attention this gets doesn't make things worse for them, rawer, more oblique.

I worked in barlinnie prison. It's a Victorian jail, with the original plumbing intact. So many rats. This is a good doc on the place, there's also the Ross Kemp one.

Doesn't this not concern anyone? That vile people getting what they deserve also means that the same vile people have access to undeserved privileges, because the staff who are supposed to be in control clearly are not. What a messed up system

Sweet summer child. The stories some of the old boys took home 🤣. In fact they still do. Admittedly, the 90s were much better. We had so many more resources, unrecognisable to the service we see 3 decades later i’m afraid.

This prisoner was killed today. Not in 1992.
