I mean, I understand and sympathise with the prevailing opinion; he was clearly despicable human being, but is no-one even slightly concerned that someone can be murdered whilst in prison?

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 11/10/2025 19:33

I heard it on the radio news, no idea who he was / what ' pop ' group he sang in but I did hear what he was sentenced for ! So no loss to society,

TattedBarley · 11/10/2025 19:35

Good. Dead pedos can’t reoffend.

Glistening · 11/10/2025 19:35

SAD? He conspired with a woman to r*pe the baby she was pregnant with.

wtf?! is this true? i never knew exactly what he did.

I have a very strong stomach for this sort of thing due to the nature of my work, but I cried reading the court transcripts of his trial. Truly truly evil. I am very very glad he is dead and I hope he suffered greatly and was as terrified as the baby boy he raped.

Me too. I really regret reading the court transcript (well, part, I couldn't read the whole thing), even worse than the stuff they were able to mention in the news. Truly evil as you say. I so hope those poor children don't remember anything.

I made an error of judgement? Sure.

Have a look at the way 364 users have voted. They are confused as was I.

Mistakes happen, you made an error of judgement and that's ok. Let's move on and learn for next time

😆

CountryQueen · 11/10/2025 19:31

You’ll be out clapping on the doorstep for them in a minute. “Service” indeed.

How do you expect they will “close ranks” and not get more time? They know who committed this particular murder. Do you think we will just not bother to prosecute him cause “thank you for your service” 😆

Of course not. 🙄

ShesTheAlbatross · 11/10/2025 19:39

SushiDisco · 11/10/2025 17:30

Surprised it took so long to be honest. With the disgusting crimes he committed I can’t imagine he’d go down well with the other prisoners.

Well I doubt the people locked up with him were prime examples of morals and values either.

Edited

Even if you didn't get it from my OP, I very swiftly clarified and repeatedly did so thereafter. I'm sorry if I caused you any confusion but I'm hard pushed to think of any regular person who would actually grieve the passing of this particular person.

ohfourfoxache · 11/10/2025 19:39

Unfortunately it’s not unusual AT ALL for people to be murdered in prison. The entire service is horrendously pressured, and mistakes happen

I’m sure the staff will be reflecting on what has happened, and I don’t envy them the job they have to do now

Having said that, it would be disingenuous to say that there will be an outpouring of grief over what occurred. Professionals have feelings too

Spidey66 · 11/10/2025 19:40

It's not often I say I'm glad someone was murdered, but I can make an exception.

Child abusers never get an easy time in prison.

Butchyrestingface · 11/10/2025 19:41

His Wiki page has been heavily edited and then semi-protected from early afternoon. My mate told me he got a text from a 'contact' in law enforcement well before the news officially broke, so insiders must have been spreading the good cheer almost immediately.

CountryQueen · 11/10/2025 19:41

Glitchymn1 · 11/10/2025 19:38

Of course not. 🙄

So go on then, how do you think they will “close ranks”

You want vigilante mobs in our prisons? Why?

Ponoka7 · 11/10/2025 19:42

Glitchymn1 · 11/10/2025 19:28

Good, hope prisoners close ranks and don’t get more time- thank you for your service prisoners.

I hope he saw it coming, I hope he was afraid, hope he felt the life drain out of him.

That prisoner cut his throat over a drug debt. He didn't care he was a pedophile, they are selling drugs, assaulting and killing people, because they can't pay. They'll do the same when they get out again. They have made our prisons even worse and prisoners will be coming out even more violent and mentally ill. No doubt most of the same men think they have the right to beat/rape/kill the women in their lives, because she isn't doing exactly as he wants. The prison guards have lost control and that isn't a good thing.

Lostinbrum · 11/10/2025 19:42

Good. I hope he suffered.

It’s not a new thing. Always been the case that paedophiles are hugely at risk in prison from other inmates. In fact I thought they were usually in solitary confinement or holed up with other paedophiles. Apparently there’s an unwritten ‘law’ in prison that anyone who has committed crimes against children is fair game. And there have been many attacks against such people.

You really believe that? That they never get an easy time inside? Why do most of them reoffend then?

I shouldn’t be surprised but I always am. Why are you making the probably false assumption that he was harmed due to his offence?

Alconleigh · 11/10/2025 18:49

It really didn’t come across as sincere, given the context!

Sadly there are a lot of supporters of Watkins, so actually it could have been sincere. Grotesque, but sincere.

Spookyspaghetti · 11/10/2025 19:43

I’m a bit shook up reading it (yes dramatic before anyone points this out) as it brings it all back. When I was young I spent a whole summer listening to their album on repeat, and, on nights out, the whole club would belt one of their hits out. Used to read the music magazines where he was treated as a rock God. When the truth came out that he was a sick peedo who had committed the most horrendous crimes I literally put their CD in the bin, deleted from iPod etc.

The bit that makes it feel shocking is that you can take someone at face value when really they are dangerous and monstrous.

Im not sorry about his death I’m only sorry for his victims, especially the baby and find the whole thing shocking.

I assumed this. He's reportedly been buying friendships and protection in prison for years. Guess some prisoners will have had their income stream severely cut by this.

Because they don't think they'll get caught again.

They do in the prison I worked in. Mainstream and protection are kept strictly apart for fear of attacks.
