Men violently preventing women from congregating, communicating and networking, is what the Taliban do. Why is it happening in the UK?

The FiLiA Women's Liberation Conference was targeted overnight, the attackers even live tweeted the violence.

Local politicians are so far silent.

This is literally terrorism, using fear and violence to shut down legitimate peaceful discussions.

Live: Venue vandalised and protesters demonstrate at feminist conference

The Brighton Centre has been vandalised as a feminist conference begins there today.

Also it hasn't been on any major news channels or papers that I can see.

DoubtfulCat · 10/10/2025 12:35

Yes, it’s outrageous. It’s from the same misogynist stable of “logic” that negates MVAWG and minimises warning signs. Men who commit DV are far more likely to commit other sociopathic crime like mass murder (there’s a strong correlation in lone-gunman mass shooting crimes in the US, and I believe the Manchester Arena bomber also had a history of VAWG.)

You don’t see other groups behaving in such ways and having their behaviour minimised and excused. It’s clear that this is a men’s rights movement.

FirstCuppa · 10/10/2025 12:39

Terrifying. Why are these men like this?

Do they think wearing a dress somehow means this isn't a violent crime that proves they are just men who hate women?

They've come back like a bad smell recently and I'd love to know why. Really was a nice break for a while. I think the public has definitely seen through them though, largely because it's so bloody obvious they don't even like women.

FirstCuppa · 10/10/2025 12:40

I'd also like to reiterate that this is not a left wing thing - you cannot get further right wing than a group who want to take rights away from 51% of society.

We need to stop enabling their division of the left.

LooseCanyon · 10/10/2025 12:42

Men gonna men 🙄

LooseCanyon · 10/10/2025 12:43

At least this time the men in dresses have been so violent against property that even the Brighton police are going to have to pay attention.

DoubtfulCat · 10/10/2025 12:43

I think so. Pronouns in email signatures and TWAW stickers in the loo have quietly disappeared in my workplace, and people are a bit more open about showing that they may respect a person’s choice of name, but they don’t for a minute believe that they’re of the opposite sex.

HothouseFlower · 10/10/2025 12:45

Male aggression.

Women gathering to talk without them is seen as a threat.

KTheGrey · 10/10/2025 12:47

Interesting that they have moved from noise and intimidation - sometimes physical assault - of women to vandalism. Because recent history suggests that police stand about like lemons when women are being intimidated, so that’s worked pretty well for the misogynists; however, the police can be less inert when it comes to vandalism in public spaces. Perhaps they have better / clearer instructions from the higher ups.

The comfort I get from this is that the women might be in less danger, and misogynist activists are slightly more likely to find themselves facing legal consequences. Is it an extinction burst? I am hoping so.

ILikeDungs · 10/10/2025 12:49

Still not mentioned on BBC news website. There is:

Stuck dog rescued from garden fence after chasing ball

Priorities.

I did wonder if they've all been in prison for something else and just been released which is why they were back on here and obviously in Brighton.

I bet the police have lists of these men and their rap sheets.

I do wonder why the police are asking for information given the perpetrators live tweeted it

I was given to understand, for example by serving MPs, that these are people who are feeling too vulnerable and terrified to leave their houses. And furthermore, Righteous posters have also informed me that, if only I spoke to these people, I would immediately welcome them into places where I'm getting undressed.

They only want to pee. And smash things up.

deltapanda · 10/10/2025 13:15

This is horrendous. So why in the world would the first thing the council do be to rush in to appease this behaviour and actually say "we understand the anxiety and stress that many of our trans, non-binary and intersex residents are feeling at this time”?

So it’s okay to cause criminal damage and terrify women, completely misunderstanding and deliberately misrepresenting their cause, is it?

Here’s your “both sides” Caitlin Moran, right on your doorstep iirc. You might want to have a closer look.

jeaux90 · 10/10/2025 13:20

Yes nothing like smashing things up and ruining the FILIA conference to show us how vulnerable they are. Entitled, male assholes. I hope they get arrested.

Violence and vandalism are unacceptable and of course illegal but describing this as terrorism is a stretch. And this is nothing like life under the Taliban, where rape and violence against women in their own homes is considered perfectly acceptable. Let's keep things in perspective.

Brainstorm23 · 10/10/2025 13:57

My irony meter is about to explode at the contradiction in this quote:-

They added: “Speakers at FiLiA claim to advocate for ‘protecting women’s spaces’ and ‘sex-based rights’ but routinely advocate for the erasure of women’s bodily autonomy and self-determination.

Er..you what now?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/10/2025 13:59

We have many years of evidence now that the violence and aggression in this debate comes from one side only.

Men who identify as women still behave like men. In fact over 70% of the transwomen currently in prison in the UK have convictions for rape, sexual assault and other violent crime.

It's not really surprising that most women don't want to share changing rooms with these men.

We need to stop enabling their division of the left.

They are left wing when the left pander to them and the right wants to protect women and girls (when it comes to this subject - not others).

The right’s motivations may not be championing women and girls but they aren’t the ones calling for men in women’s space. We need to accept this is a left wing problem.
