Men violently preventing women from congregating, communicating and networking, is what the Taliban do. Why is it happening in the UK?

SingleSexSpacesInSchools · 10/10/2025 12:27

The FiLiA Women's Liberation Conference was targeted overnight, the attackers even live tweeted the violence.

Local politicians are so far silent.

This is literally terrorism, using fear and violence to shut down legitimate peaceful discussions.

Live: Venue vandalised and protesters demonstrate at feminist conference

The Brighton Centre has been vandalised as a feminist conference begins there today.

It's been lovely having a break for a while.
Wondered where they'd gone?

Ha ha, when I got home and saw there were 97 new replies on this thread I knew the TRAs had turned up 😆

Haven't been called that for a few years 😂

When was there a break? I was ill for a chunk of 2023 so I might well have missed it.

Maybe I was mistaken but on here for a month or two you could say the word trans without summoning a derailing demon.
As you've seen on the MAFS UK thread, we got through 5 nearly 6 threads before a couple came on and made it all about them while telling us what they would and wouldn't let us discuss...🙄
It's no wonder everyone is hating on them if they can't even leave MAFS out of it. Even I feel like a bad feminist for watching it.

EmeraldRoulette · 10/10/2025 18:56

@FirstCuppa what is MAWFS? (I sound like the Dowager Countess, sorry)

I actually misunderstood your point. Sorry, I thought you meant there had been peace in terms of stuff like this happening. And I was thinking, really, was there? I didn't realise you meant on the board sorry. I'm not here very often.

Do you? Well, if you say so.

Why would you think that posters wouldn’t want the world to see the behaviour of these people?

ThisKindAmberLemur · 10/10/2025 20:21

You're comparing some broken windows and spray paint to an empty building in the middle of the night to years of systematic oppression, sexual violence and living under war lords. It's not really the same thing is it? In fact, it sounds a bit psycho.

juldan · 10/10/2025 20:29

Kimura · 10/10/2025 15:11

So it’s okay to cause criminal damage and terrify women, completely misunderstanding and deliberately misrepresenting their cause, is it?

Which women were terrified at 3am when some windows of an empty building were smashed? And who has suggested that it's ok?

It's criminal damage and the police were on the scene immediately. Angry people break stuff when they feel like they're not being listened to. Especially when the people who aren't listening pop up in their back yard.

It's a bit of vandalism. You'd think they'd blown the place up in the middle of the conference or something.

@Kimura
A feminist conference is not trans women’s backyard. It is about women and for women. Nothing to do with men identifying as women. If they want to be represented and to be heard, they have to organise their own conference. So no, they have no reason to be angry.

Don't forget the megaphones and threatening behaviour. It's all intimidation, designed to keep women silent.

Except it isnt only broken windows and isnt only this time. Yes, trans loons arent the actual fucking Taliban but they definitely share the same misogynistic impulse. Why are you so keen to minimise years of intimidation? If neo nazis were to do the same to muslim women, would you bring this same energy to scold the women for overreacting?

Of course not everyone on the left thinks this way, but it is left wing or liberal people are more likely to support the protection of transgender individuals: https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2022/06/28/americans-complex-views-on-gender-identity-and-transgender-issues/

But people like me are included in that group due to the sweeping generalisations of people who blame 'the left". Am I not allowed to be pissed off by that stereotype and allowed to challenge their narrow view of 'the left'?

That was from 2022 though, peak penis blindness era.
I think they've shown themselves up A LOT in the last 3 years. No one is under any illusion after the supreme court debacle how aggressive they are and why women don't want to share private spaces with them.

Funny, you don’t sound all that “kind”. Ever heard of the concept of an analogy?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/10/2025 20:55

I wonder if it was homophobes attacking a conference for gay people certain posters would grasp it. Oh wait, that’s already happened. And oh wait, that was trans rights activist bullies too.

FirstCuppa · 10/10/2025 21:00

That's been the biggest change among my friends, the gay and lesbian support for them has almost completely dried up. Straight guys don't really care, some straight women don't care but their "allies" in my friend group now roll their eyes if trans "ishoos" are bought up. That was very different in 2022. They've lost all the good will.

Thank you @SingleSexSpacesInSchools, you got in there first with a reply very close to my own thoughts!

This is behaviour that was no doubt meant to intimidate and silence women, but because nobody was around at the time we can’t describe it as terrifying, apparently. Got it.

It’s such a double standard. When the supreme court judgement came out I read many accounts of trans people who were apparently terrified / too afraid to leave the house over a clarification of rights.

Whereas violent, destructive behaviour designed to intimidate women attending the conference should just be shrugged off.

Brighton, basically the UK's capital of inclusivity, is their 'backyard'. It's the equivalent of holding a Ranger's fan club meeting in the carpark of Celtic's ground.

I agree. But the way protesting works is that those who don't agree try to disrupt the thing they don't agree with.

So no, they have no reason to be angry.

Who are you (or any of us) to decide what people should or shouldn't get angry about? They quite obviously do have their reasons, you just don't agree with them.

To be clear - Angry people break stuff when they're not being listened to. The people this particular bunch are angry about popped up in their back yard, so they went and broke their stuff. It's not that deep

I've just had a look at the speaker list. The first 3 I've clicked on was a survivor of human trafficking, someone campaigning against sex dolls and female robots that position women as sexual objects and someone who suffered extreme injuries when the Taliban tried to kill her for trying to educate girls.

It makes no sense to be angry at these women or to try to scare them, or prevent them from speaking.

But you know full well it's not those specific people/issues they're mad about.

It makes no sense to be angry at these women or to try to scare them, or prevent them from speaking.

If they wanted to scare them or stop them from speaking, they'd have done something during the day, during the conference, when they were actually there.

They vandalized the building at night because its the least risky thing they could do to get a reaction and the attention they're so obviously after. Nobody was hurt, nothing has been disrupted. I'd say it's a good thing that the media haven't given it the time of day.

JaquelineHide · 10/10/2025 22:10

Not all reasons are valid or justifiable.

Some people in this thread!!

Ridiculous comment. But they were also there during the day, with their megaphones and signs.

It has been in major newspapers. The BBC has reported on it.

In the past, TRAs have disrupted and hurt people. It's actually a bloody miracle it didn't escalate this time, but maybe the vandalism (which is no big deal to you) had the police on their toes for once.

JaquelineHide · 10/10/2025 22:20

Here are the TRAs' 'reasons', and here ia the actual Filia agenda, to illustrate my point.

Men violently preventing women from congregating, communicating and networking, is what the Taliban do. Why is it happening in the UK?

And here is this group claiming responsibility for the vandalism of Wes Streeting's office, and promising worse.

Maybe not to you, but they obviously feel strongly enough about it to get out of their house and take direct action, risking arrest...so I guess it is to them?

Some people in this thread!!

Nobody has said it should be shrugged off. Some people have suggested that the Taliban comparison is a bit much, and that it was wishful thinking to expect the story to be front page news.

Ridiculous comment. But they were also there during the day, with their megaphones and signs.

The same people? Are you sure? There have been posters all over Brighton for weeks organizing

Megaphones and signs?? Oh no! What are they going to do, shout slogans that are so crackley we can't understand them?

The fact of the matter is, no matter how vehemently you disagree with them, no matter how little you think of them, they have every right to be there with their megaphones and signs, as long as their actions remain within the law. Just like you have every right to get a megaphone and sign of your own, and stand on the other side of the street to counter-protest.
