Your least favourite shop/shop you've had problems with. Shops you don't go in anymore.

Anything we can learn?

Sports Direct.
No customer service.

Mainly young staff who have no clue about customer service. Like Robots in there. Soulless place.

Clothes that aren't the size they are labelled, so its misleading.
Googled this and apparantely its quite common.
Don't want to give refunds easily when other shops do.

Our local hardware and kitchenware shop. Surly assistants and a poor range of stock. No names obviously.

AliceMaforethought · 09/10/2025 13:38

All too many shops have appalling customer service these days. I've noticed it since Covid. They act as if they are doing you a favour.

Americano75 · 09/10/2025 13:38

Asda. Live right next door to one but very rarely go in any more because it's that shite.

TheTecknician · 09/10/2025 13:41

None in particular as my shopping habits are fairly stable. But I used to loathe Littlewoods when I was a bairn. It was so bleak and dull. Thrifty - a discount clothing store - was even worse!

Blackcountryexile · 09/10/2025 13:42

IKEA. I always feel I should leave my affairs in order before I enter in case I never find my way out again!

MoonDanceDiner · 09/10/2025 13:43

The Range, especially after they decided to squeeze Iceland freezers into every store.

I used to love mooching around The Range years ago but it's now very overpriced and the staff are all miserable, although I now understand why, DD17 has just left our local one after working there for a year. They are absolutely arseholes to work for.

Gettingbysomehow · 09/10/2025 13:44

Cotton Traders, I used to get a lot of my staples in there but the quality has plummeted and the jeggings last about as long as an egg sandwich.
The shoes are the ultimate cheap and nasty.

Webbedlife · 09/10/2025 13:47

My local Sainsbury's. On more than one occasion I had a lot of trouble collecting parcels from there, staff sending me back and forth to different counters because they clearly didnt have a system. Then the security checks started with Smartshop where I've had most of my items rescanned. There are other collection points and food shops locally and that one is the most hassle, so why would I bother?

Nofencesitting · 09/10/2025 13:47

I don't know about least favourite but the one that seems to have gone downhill tremendously in recent years and which I hardly ever go in is the nearest TK Max in the next town to where I live .

The local charity shops put it to shame.

I think they are talking about closing it. At one time I would have been really sad about this but not now.

Ablondiebutagoody · 09/10/2025 13:47

ASDA. Fucking massive, products are shit, pretty much forced to self checkout, and if you attempt to collect a parcel the worker shuffles off at local authority speed and doesn't come back for 20 minutes.

Sixesandsevens67 · 09/10/2025 13:48

Sports direct - incredibly rude, angry and unprofessional member of staff in the store. I was shocked to be honest. Also had a bad experience with them with a large online purchase.

HRTQueen · 09/10/2025 13:49

I love wondering around Ikea and The Range

Also B&M and Dunelm my idea of a perfect afternoon out

TK Maxx I like the Homesense stores but the ones that sell clothes its just too much to sort through

I love your positive spin on the thread!

JD Sports. All of them really, but especially the ones with a bloody DJ and awful pumping music. The merchandise is universally terrible as well. I only go because my DS likes it.

But my absolute worst experience in any shop was at the one on Oxford Street in London. I get that they have a problem with theft but the measures they take is so far to the detriment of customers its unreal. You can't try on both shoes in the pair and walk around in them, nor are you allowed to carry your stuff to the counter to pay. You have to wait for a staff member to bring it, and it's absolute chaos. Wrong shoes, takes ages etc etc. Hands down the worst shop I've ever been in.

squashyhat · 09/10/2025 13:55

Phone shops. Usually empty, never any useful stock and with workers (I refuse to call them assistants - actually they are barely workers) who can't get their noses out of their own phones for long enough to help you with yours.

Swiftie1878 · 09/10/2025 13:56

Primark. A mess, too hot and claustrophobic.

Absolutely, when you have to take something back because its faulty, what happened to sorry about that.
Sorry you've had to come back.

When there's concern about shops closing, maybe they need to up their game.
Sports Direct have alot of bad reviews on Trust Pilot also.

Crispyturtle · 09/10/2025 14:00

Zara. Clothes barely an improvement on Primark and the rudest shop assistants I’ve ever come across, in every branch I’ve ever been in. It’s like they stipulate ‘must sneer openly during any customer interaction’ on the job advert

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 09/10/2025 14:01

The Range.

One till open, with a long line of customers. All around the shop stand shop assistants, standing chatting to each other or very, very slowly wheeling large trolleys full of merchandise or equally slowly stacking said merchandise precariously onto shelves. Every so often, the one poor person serving on the till asks with increasing desperation as the queue lengthens “could all till trained staff report to the checkouts, please?!” - absolutely no response is elicited from other staff.

Starlight1984 · 09/10/2025 14:02

TK Maxx. Like being in a car boot sale (not snobby, would actually prefer a car boot sale!).

Fizbosshoes · 09/10/2025 14:04

@girlfriend44
My first thought was sports direct but for different reasons,
a) they sell a whole load of shit that is nothing to do with sport but often dont have basics (I asked about buying a leotard in there once - they looked as if I was asking for the moon - but I probably could have bought slippers, a suitcase, a gigantic mug and a calendar with kittens on it for all my sporting needs )

b) the clothes or bags that are 12ft high up so you have to then find a staff member to get them down...and then feel really awkward if its not the right size/not suitable

c) the constant pushing of their own brand above known brands. I wanted trainers once and the own brand didnt come in half sizes, they were clearly too big but instead of accepting this and offering an alternative they tried to sell me 2 pairs of insoles!

But I dont blame the staff because they are probably paid barely minimum wage and following company policy. I do still go there though occassionally

Single mum, saved up and made a huge order with sports direct for my sons. They both have their birthdays a a week either side of Christmas so it was quite the order. Something dodgy was going on with the delivery. It had been tracked saying it was delivered. When I got in contact with them to say it had been tracked incorrectly and I hadn't recieved my goods. I got a knock on the door. A boy in a balaclava delivered a very small package. When I got it in the house it had been opened and all but socks and one Beanie hat had been stolen.
This was caught on my ring camera which I sent to them. They were awful. Refused to investigate and I couldn't afford to buy all the stuff to replace it.
I know it sounds dramatic but I don't sleep well and I often immediately wake up thinking about it. The injustice of it, having so little money and having to pay put hundreds of pounds for items I didn't receive and the kids going without. It makes me so sad and so angry. I will never shop with them again. I'd rather pay twice the price somewhere else.

BurntBroccoli · 09/10/2025 14:06

Waitrose. Cashiers are very stuck up unlike Lidl staff who are absolutely lovely!

StepawayfromtheLindors · 09/10/2025 14:07

B&M. Where to start?

Nitgel · 09/10/2025 14:07

Tesco
