What do you do for your Xmas breakfast?

I am hosting for the first time. I am 29, in my newly gutted and decorated home so plan to push the boat out. No children will be in attendance. Only adults. I enjoy hosting and cooking/baking.

What do you do for Christmas brekkie? I want it to be posh but light and easy. I was thinking of doing cinnamon buns and fruit salad. Plus tea, coffee, juice and fizz.

But then I think most people who are coming don’t really have sweet tooth’s (myself included liked). Stuffed croissants? DIY style? There will be a couple of veggies. And then some mini sweet pastries? But then that seems like too much pastry. Parfait?

I wouldn’t mind doing waffles/crepes but I don’t think that will be fun as I don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen whilst everyone else eats.

Xmas lunch is at 2.

Sorry this is being asked in Oct!

there will be plenty of snacks/canapes/seeet treats throughout the day

We have a full Scottish

MNTouristhere · 09/10/2025 23:44

Nice warm rolls, bacon and a tray of veggie sausages. Put out some butter and some fancy preserves and let people help themselves along with some fruit salad

FeetLikeFlippers · 09/10/2025 23:45

I like to stay in bed until lunchtime. What is the AIBU vote for? Your use of the word “Xmas” perhaps!

I’d do this if the veggies (my brother and sil) weren’t coming.

They can join in and omit the salmon, I wouldn't allow fads to spoil a meal for the majority.

StartingOverIn2025 · 09/10/2025 23:58

A cup of tea then croissants with salted butter and absolutely LOADS of strawberry and champagne jam, and a couple of Quality Streets

Is it just Christmas that a lot of people start on the booze at breakfast, or do you do it for birthdays etc?

I recall taking my granddaughter and her mother out for a special 18th birthday breakfast and we managed a couple of espresso martinis but alcohol before evening is usually only on those special occasions.

NaneePolly · 10/10/2025 00:10

We have crumpets with cheese - long time family tradition and my children now serve the same

Exploringtheworld · 10/10/2025 03:27

American style pancakes (bought), bacon, maple syrup - yum and doesn’t require too much time in the kitchen!

RosyDaysAhead · 10/10/2025 05:16

We do continental style fruit/cheese/cured
meats and yoghurts.

Homehelper · 10/10/2025 06:13

My precious mum would work continuously Christmas Day, like most other folk

I make sausage rolls , the recipe is on the just roll pastry box . Sausage meat, grated apple and hoisin sauce. They can be pre made and freeze well, I cook in over or airfryer depending on how many I need.

They sound nice!

BrendaSmall · 10/10/2025 08:59

It’s no different than any other Sunday with a roast!
coffee n whatever we normally have and then a midday roast!!
only difference being is it’s not always a Sunday!!

Sahara123 · 10/10/2025 09:06

A bowl of Bran flakes, same as usual 🤣. I’m not a big breakfast person, and we’d all rather save ourselves for our Christmas lunch ! Which we have at our usual 1pm so that we’ve got room again for our favourite bit which is a cold cuts supper in the evening!

Full English/Scottish/Welsh/Irish breakfast.
That way you have 2 of the best meals on earth in one day.

I love how the last two posts represent the absolute extreme options: a bowl of bran flakes as usual Vs a great big plate of one of the best meals on Earth! Isn't diversity a wonderful thing. 🎉

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/10/2025 09:36

Mushrooms on toast, with cream and sherry.

I think I know which house I’d go to lol

Littlejellyuk · 10/10/2025 09:48

Bagels and philly cream cheese in our house! 🙌 🥯 😋
I have mine topped with smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and fresh chives, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze, which looks fab 👌

DS prefers a continental style breakfast, with chopped fruit on his bagel, with either cream cheese, honey or Nutella.
Or DS has a pain au choc, with fresh blueberries on the side, a babybel, and a fresh orange or apple juice. ❤️

For the adults we have a nice coffee (cafetiere) and a buck's fizz 😉

ilovepixie · 10/10/2025 09:52

We don’t have a special breakfast. Just what we would normally have. We have Christmas lunch around 1.30 so don’t need a big breakfast.

Carriemac · 10/10/2025 10:41

We have smoked salmon and scrambled egg, we eat lunch late afternoon

Ah but you haven’t experienced my roast turkey lunch , or my cold cuts meal ! Which involves Christmas coleslaw and Delia’s spiced red cabbage with cranberries 😋. Need to leave room for all that 🤣
