What do you do for your Xmas breakfast?

I am hosting for the first time. I am 29, in my newly gutted and decorated home so plan to push the boat out. No children will be in attendance. Only adults. I enjoy hosting and cooking/baking.

What do you do for Christmas brekkie? I want it to be posh but light and easy. I was thinking of doing cinnamon buns and fruit salad. Plus tea, coffee, juice and fizz.

But then I think most people who are coming don’t really have sweet tooth’s (myself included liked). Stuffed croissants? DIY style? There will be a couple of veggies. And then some mini sweet pastries? But then that seems like too much pastry. Parfait?

I wouldn’t mind doing waffles/crepes but I don’t think that will be fun as I don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen whilst everyone else eats.

Xmas lunch is at 2.

Sorry this is being asked in Oct!

there will be plenty of snacks/canapes/seeet treats throughout the day

If your eggs Benedict is vegetarian, you are doing it wrong. Eggs florentine is vegetarian, eggs royale is pescatarian. You could do a vegetarian version or an avocado version if you wanted though.

Smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and a croissant. Mimosas

Mikki77 · 09/10/2025 18:07

We have smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, grilled vegetables and a truffle brie with some fruit and nuts on the side. Served with rye bread and bagels. I actually get the toaster from the kitchen and plug it in the dining room and pop it on the table. So we chat, toast, drink and eat all around the table. It's more social.

Croissants. Coffee. Done.

Skybluepinky · 09/10/2025 18:21

Nothing as have dinner at 1pm, do they actually want breakfast as very few actually bother nowadays.

independentfriend · 09/10/2025 18:23

If you're starting bucks fizz at breakfast time I'd recommend adding protein to what's for breakfast - eggs, beans, scrambled tofu for vegans, pate, etc.

You want people happy not getting actually drunk before dinner / at higher risk of starting arguments.

Middleagedspreadisreal · 09/10/2025 18:24

Smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and champagne

Freda69 · 09/10/2025 18:25

Blueberry pancakes and maple syrup (made ages before, frozen and then heated in oven). But we don’t have Christmas dinner until about 4pm. Then have dessert about 7 pm or later.
Otherwise smoked salmon and blinis.

Mrsgreen100 · 09/10/2025 18:31

The important thing, I think, is to know whether your guests are the type to want to get up and have breakfast together, or whether they would rather get up when they feel like it and have a more relaxed breakfast.

I tend to provide danishes and croissants, plus some nice cereal, with some good orange juice so that people can eat when they want. We eat at 1.00 so I ask that everyone vacates the kitchen by 10.30 so that I can get things done without anyone underfoot.

Because we have a very big meal relatively early I don't feel the need for a cooked breakfast of any kind. Having things that people can just help themselves to means that if they are woken up at 6am by children wanting to open their stockings, they can go and get themselves something and then (maybe) go back to bed. And if everyone has already stuffed themselves with Christmas chocolate, nothing is wasted.

Blablibladirladada · 09/10/2025 18:43

Add some salty waffles/crepe??

Like smoked salmon, poshed eggs? Eggs Benedict’s? Cheese spray? Croissant and pain au chocolat? Hot chocolate? Good smooth juice?

All the cheese crackers you can find :)

Damn…I want all of these now 🥹😋😋😋

edit: spraid not spray!!!! (😇 phone)

gruberandassocs · 09/10/2025 18:43

Always have smoked salmon and cream cheese blinis with caviar on top for those that like it, and just cream cheese sun dried tomatoes and chives for the veggies. Bucks fizz and a pot of good coffee. Have this while opening pressies. Its light can be adapted to suit and is easy (you can even buy ready blinis from the supermarket - they just need a light grilling) and does not fill you up too much. Ds likes it so much we have to have it for his birthday too.

Not everyone has dinner at 1pm. We eat Christmas dinner at 6pm so would be starving if we didn’t have breakfast.

Hollybollyhughes · 09/10/2025 18:47

Its a special day so personally no traditional English breakfast. Keep it simple or you'll be exhausted. Do they like eggs, so smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Bit of caviar if the budget allows. We did blinis from M & S, cream cheese, smoked salmon and caviar. Or do this the night before, menemen, is fabulous and veggie, add eggs on the day.

Minerbird · 09/10/2025 18:47

Bacon rolls and Bucks Fizz.

Trishyb10 · 09/10/2025 18:47

Bacon sandwich bucks fizz , tea and coffee whilst we open pressies, you got enough going on making xmas dinner to do anything else xxx

ZanyOP · 09/10/2025 18:58

We do homemade crumpets with scrambled eggs, roasted cherry tomatoes and smoked salmon.

Lovetoplan2 · 09/10/2025 18:58

hattie43 · 08/10/2025 20:13

Haha my thoughts exactly when I read it . Who the hell wants Brussel sprout and root vegetable salad for breakfast .

I do!!!! 😂

angela1952 · 09/10/2025 19:04

Normally smoked salmon for us too, with bagels and scrambled eggs, but I think my DD is doing breakfast this year so it may be pastries as her DC prefer this.

Judecb · 09/10/2025 19:05

Caterer, and long time host of Christmas breakfasts here!! Whatever you offer will be welcomed!

I would just do a mix of brioche, pain au chocolate and croissants with butter and jam/ marmalade available. Tea and coffee only. Keep it very simple. The main event is later in the day! Good luck!

glittereyelash · 09/10/2025 19:09

We just did a board of random bits last year, yogert and granola pots, cronuts, pancakes, croissants, sourdough bread, mixed fruits, lemon curd, cake pops and some mimosas. We did croque madam's the following day. It worked well 😀

Speckly · 09/10/2025 19:10

Cordee · 08/10/2025 17:51

I’d do this if the veggies (my brother and sil) weren’t coming.

Just do them poached eggs and wilted spinach 🤷🏻‍♀️

ColdWaterDipper · 09/10/2025 19:10

We have (on offer to everyone): croissants with butter, Greek yoghurt with fruit and honey, or French toast. We used to have smoked salmon but prefer to have that on canapés now when we have champagne at about 12ish (lunch at 2ish). We have children though and usually have 9-14 people for Christmas lunch so I can’t be bothered with a fancy breakfast if I’m honest.
