To be utterly disgusted by the woman cutting down yellow ribbons commemorating the October 7th victims in Muswell Hill yesterday morning

When Jewish people are being attacked and murdered on their way to synagogue on Yom Kippur

When you literally can’t move or look in any direction without Palestine Palestine Palestine in our faces

On the eve of the anniversary of the worst atrocity committed against Jewish people since the Holocaust, a small, unobtrusive memorial for the victims of that unthinkable, barbaric attack was destroyed yesterday by a despicable woman who turned up with scissors and cut the ribbons down, one by one.

Ribbons for women and girls who were raped and murdered.
Ribbons for babies ripped from their parents’ arms and slaughtered.
Ribbons for men beaten to death.
Ribbons for the hostages still suffering every moment.

And this disgusting individual took it upon herself to come along with a pair of scissors and cut each one away. Her excuse? They “condone genocide”.

Let’s not pretend for a moment that that was her true motivation. It was a revolting demonstration of the antisemitism that has become so shamefully rife in this country that it sickens me.

This woman needs to be named and shamed for the loathsome person she is.

Why do you think they can't travel with their passports? What nationalities can travel and work completely freely without visas, restrictions etc?

In fact, of the two nationalities, it's Israeli passport holders that are not admitted into Bangladesh, Brunei, Iran, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Yemen, whereas Palestinian passport holders are only not admitted in Madagascar. Do you think it's equally unfair that Israeli passport holders are also not able to travel completely freely?

https://www.passportindex.org/passport/israel/

In fact I cannot travel back to my home in Yemen because I am Jewish and have Israeli stamps in my passport. I have met people (recently in Dubai) who tell me they are Palestinian and cannot return and it turns out that their parents were born in what is now Israel and left to Jordan when the state was announced and they feel they are refugees (who have a better life than I do!!). So am I not a refugee? Why am I not allowed to go back to my homeland? Why is it the Palestinians who carry this status through generations and not Yemenite or Iraqi or Tunisian Jews who were ethnically cleansed? We are not bombing Yemen! We build a life elsewhere!

Did you read the article? I don't know why I'm asking. I know people like you are completely incurious and unwilling to countenance that your political opponents may have worthwhile views. Come back when you've read it and have serious counterarguments to make.

Spiked is funded by the Koch foundation.
It is an extreme right wing endeavour.
Have no intention of reading their articles. If I want right wing drivel I can pick up the Daily Mail but I’m not going to read a publication entirely designed to provoke and sustain culture wars to favour the extreme American right wing agenda thanks

Yep, the mask slipped when one poster said the lives of Gazans are worth less than others.

No one's life is worth less than anyone's. However, if the cutting down of these yellow ribbons in North London causes offence to the actual Jewish community that lives there then those feelings take priority. I understand feelings are heightened but it's common decency not to antagonise the people you live right next door to.

Support for a free Palestine is not the same thing as support for Hamas.

Edited

Where have pro Palestine supporters made that distinction? Which protests havee condemned Hamas and called for them to surrender? Which of them have condemned Hamas' kidnappings and murders?

Can't edit but I will add that the 'Pro Palestine' protests have also been organised by both ex-Hamas chiefs and organisations with Hamas ties that have been banned in the Middle East due to their terrorist ties (Friends of Al-Aqsa, etc).

That's my point. They should be allowed to work and travel completely freely anywhere with their passports.

How is that anything to do with Israel?
Also no-one can just rock up and work and travel completely freely - there's always some sort of visa or immigration process, unless you're within a specific bloc that has a common travel area.

But they cannot leave due to the blockages and exit points that's my point?

I would suggest not committing terrorist attacks on Israel then? That might go a way towards making exit points less blocked.

The attacks didn't start out of nowhere...

I'm talking about the check points and blockages.

@Thegreyhound The Charles Koch foundation is libertarian and has provided funding of just $300,000 to Spiked USA operations over 7 years, in their defence of free speech.

You'd have to be suicidal to open your borders completely to a threat like that. Don't be so absolutely ridiculous.

Yes exactly without checkpoints and blockages?

Nor did the war. Come off it, this is farcical now.

So we both agree the war and attacks didn't start from Oct 7?

confusedlady10 · 08/10/2025 18:48

So we both agree the war and attacks didn't start from Oct 7?

There's absolutely nothing that justifies October 7, it was egregious, racist, sadistic, extremist, misogynistic, extremist, totally radicalised and absolutely sheer fucking evil.

If you mean the Israel/Palestinian dispute is long running, well, duh. But you and your lot prefer this to any sort of deal or compromise, so just let Israel know when you actually do give a shit about creating safety and stability for Gazans and aren't just obsessed with destroying the only Jewish state in the world at any cost to anyone.

HaimishaPickle · 08/10/2025 18:57

confusedlady10 · 08/10/2025 18:47

Pre October 7th and apart from Israel, can you please tell me which countries had checkpoints and blockages solely for Palestinian passport holders who wished to travel to them?

Fiftyandme · 08/10/2025 19:04

The whole thing is an unholy mess. Both sides are committing awful atrocities.

There are no winners here and neither side is the sole victim.

And also from them?

SpaceRaccoon · 08/10/2025 19:33

The attacks didn't start out of nowhere.

All of this misery comes down to a refusal to accept a majority-Jewish state.
That's it. That's what people ignore. Hamas aren't doing what they're doing because they want a two state solution. They want Israel gone.

So do their supporters - this daft lass is a good example, she seems to think Jews come from America:

I'm talking about within Israel/Gaza having free movement without needing permits or suffering discrimination and no checkpoints and without having their airspace controlled. If you are telling me that Palestinians/Gazan's have been completely free to travel wherever they want (not talking about visa's) without having to go through hoops or having their travel controlled by Israel before Oct 7, I am all ears?

A majority Jewish state on stolen land occupying majority. Not really fair is it? Being Jewish is not a problem at all. Stealing, raping and killing innocent Palestinians for their land due to more power and weaponry from the Israeli government isn't.

Oh no! I didn't realise the Israeli government had the right to displace, rape, steal and kill thousands of innocent Palestinians since 1948 while committing genocide and massacres for their right to a Jewish state. I do apologise. And yes, I agree Oct 7 was very atrocious. At least we can agree on that.

Land that was originally stolen from the Jewish people to begin with.

I believe you're the poster who previously on this thread hinted at how all previous suggested two state solutions were unfair because Palestinians should get Jerusalem for religious reasons, right?

Libertarian meaning far right. Don’t even try and defend Spiked which exists purely to provide ammunition for the culture wars. I’m old enough to remember when all the contrarian edge lords involved in it wore weird uniforms pand tried to sell copies of Living Marxism in the streets while defending Slobodan Milosevic.

This thread is great, thank you everyone for pointing out some actual truths. Don’t want to derail the thread but I highly recommend Coleman Hughes dismantling of Dave Smith on “Conversations with Coleman”, very satisfying.

It would be interesting to hear your conclusions after reading points made by both sides of the argument.

I didn't mention Jerusalem actually I mentioned Palestinians wanting fair and access to holy lands without it being taken over by Israelis. If you believe the land wasn't stolen from the Palestinians then there's no point in trying to change your mind and we can agree to disagree.
