To be utterly disgusted by the woman cutting down yellow ribbons commemorating the October 7th victims in Muswell Hill yesterday morning

When Jewish people are being attacked and murdered on their way to synagogue on Yom Kippur

When you literally can’t move or look in any direction without Palestine Palestine Palestine in our faces

On the eve of the anniversary of the worst atrocity committed against Jewish people since the Holocaust, a small, unobtrusive memorial for the victims of that unthinkable, barbaric attack was destroyed yesterday by a despicable woman who turned up with scissors and cut the ribbons down, one by one.

Ribbons for women and girls who were raped and murdered.
Ribbons for babies ripped from their parents’ arms and slaughtered.
Ribbons for men beaten to death.
Ribbons for the hostages still suffering every moment.

And this disgusting individual took it upon herself to come along with a pair of scissors and cut each one away. Her excuse? They “condone genocide”.

Let’s not pretend for a moment that that was her true motivation. It was a revolting demonstration of the antisemitism that has become so shamefully rife in this country that it sickens me.

This woman needs to be named and shamed for the loathsome person she is.

And do you think it was okay for Hamas to start this awful situation by massacring so many innocent people in Israel?

I’m so bored and tired of this argument tactic.

No, I quite obviously, since I don’t support the murders of civilians, don’t in any way think that the events of two years ago were justified or acceptable, just as I abhor those who target synagogues or Jews anywhere.

Does that mean I think Oct 7th came out of now where and nothing? No
Does that mean I think the lives lost were in any way more important and precious than the 50 000+ Palestinian lives lost since? No

Ive literally watched Netanyahu say he needs to wipe out gaza and that even the babies will 'grow to be terrorists'.... is this normal to some people because it's about Muslims? It's not anti Muslim?

And where was this ? Link please

Thegreyhound · 07/10/2025 15:54

freakingscared · 07/10/2025 15:47

Sorry but what did you read that made you think I meant that ? Off course people are not born terrorists .

You literally said that one life was worth more than another

And the number keeps being inflated to ever more preposterous levels. seriously.

freakingscared · 07/10/2025 15:50

Oh goodness me ! I even said nationality aside !! Off course people are bad and good ! Maybe re read the post I initially put .

You're trying to backtrack, but you specifically said some lives are worth more.

IDF soldiers have admitted that they have had orders to kill Palestinians indiscriminately from their superiors.

For you to claim that some lives are worth more than others and then talk about Gazans having no moral compass is racist.

Applecrumble0110 · 07/10/2025 15:54

freakingscared · 07/10/2025 15:52

It’s not anti Muslim , if anything can be anti
Palestine . Lots of Muslim countries don’t like Palestine . This is a specific region issue not a religious one IMO , at least not when it comes to Palestine maybe it can be said against Israel since it’s the only Jewish country .

So ENTIRE Muslim countries dont like Palestine? You can speak for the whole country? That's absolutely ridiculous. Israel is a powerful country and the leaders of those Muslim countries dont want to step out of line with them but I dont know ow about whole countries.

Because they are , again do you think a terrorist life or a pedos life is worth the same as yours ? Unless you are an awful person I would say no ! I would prefer to save you than them 1000 times

It's actually worse, it's 67,144 Palestinians and 1,983 Israelis.

To be honest the fact that @Nestingbirdsseems to believe this started on 7/10 is reason enough to not engage further.

Oh come on !!! You need to be blind and deaf not to know this . You know Palestinians have a bad relationship with quite a few Arab countries , Egypt and Jordan being the obvious ones

I live in an area with a huge number of yellow ribbons and posters commemorating the victims and to be honest, it's uncomfortable. It's become more than a memorial, it's now a pro-Israel political statement. As demonstrated by the fact the ribbons are often accompanied by "Fuck Hamas" stickers and the like.

I do have some sympathy for Israel's position - more than the general public, probably - but I certainly don't support the current decimation of Palestine and I don't like the way the whole locality now seems to have been branded pro-Israeli, it doesn't represent me for sure.

Edited

I cannot agree that expecting Hamas to return illegally kidnapped, starved and tortured hostages is “pro-Israeli”. It’s against acts of terrorism.

Are you not lurking here? If you're not lurking, what are you doing?

You were the one who said Israel has no obligation to allow aid into Gaza.

You were the one who said you donate to Palestinian charities and then couldn't name a single one.

Tone policing how Jewish people feel about Hamas is one of the shittiest takes I've seen here yet. What should the stickers say - Hamas are naughty?

Wakeuplittlebunnies · 07/10/2025 16:00

I care more about the babies that are still warm, dead on the hospital slabs that I do about some ribbons. You need to sort your priorities out.

20questions · 07/10/2025 16:01

I'm here in Israel now and attending a memorial shortly. The pain and sorrow is immense. However it is matched by deep loving support and eternal hope. As one, we embrace and hold each other.
To tear down ribbons and posters..to celebrate what happened in Manchester..to come out to the streets of England screaming and shouting with hate today of all days...this is a sickness of the mind.

beachcitygirl · 07/10/2025 16:01

It’s a stupid act by a silly young person but it harms no one personally. A non violent act. It will save not a single Palestinian life.

but i can understand the anger and hatred of any symbol that appears to be in support of Israel

sadly we are in a situation where some see support of Jewish people or hostages as support of Israel (and to some it is - the Israeli flags) and in the other hand some see the support of Palestinian people or the horror at genocide and children being mirdered as support for hamas.

some people are very entrenched when I do believe that the majority of people (certainly in my country and circle)
are horrified by what Israel is doing in Palestine and to Palestinians and are able to realise that this is NO excuse to be hateful to Jewish people.

the problem imho is the continued use of the Israeli flag when speaking about the rise in antisemitism.
they shouldn’t be conflated but invariably are by both sides of protestors.

Then you haven’t meet many . I often travel to Cyprus where there is a lots of both Muslims and Jews and they mostly get along , we even have a married Palestinian / Israeli couple who we been friends for years, we often have dinner with when we go there .
I don’t think most Israeli will judge you for your religion , yes I notice people from certain areas seem to be more devout and prone to discrimination but most Israelis I know are from telaviv and pretty chilled out religion wise . Obviously I can only speak from who I meet but I don’t have that experience

sabababa · 07/10/2025 16:04

Thegreyhound · 07/10/2025 15:44

It’s just that they won’t all break international law, ethnically cleanse a population or consider a death tally of over 50-1 to be proportionate. Nor will they exact ecocide, destroy academia and health services, maim children and use banned substances in their weapons. Ideally they wouldn’t use an entire population as a test case for new and ever more dreadful weapons technology.

While much of that is hyperbole, you might find that this is EXACTLY what happens in modern warfare. It's exactly what happened in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's exactly what Pakistan did to Bangladesh (genocide which is why it is hypocritical of British Pakistanis who never sought accoutnability at home to scream about Israel), it's exactly what Indonesia did in West Papua and Timor Leste (genocide), it's exactly what Azerbaijan did in Ngorno Karabach ( genocide) it's far worse in Sudan, Congo and Burma, it was far worse in Algeria with the French, it was far worse in Sri Lanka and Syria, Russia did far far far worse in Chechnya, it is far worse in Yemen. And this isn't an exhuastive list, just the ones at the top of my head.

The civilian ledger is always paid in blood. n fact, I'd be surprised if you could give me an example of a model of urban warfare that you think israel should be following?

BTW, this is not an excuse I believe very much that civilians should be protected and there is nothing I want more than to see an end to this war and civiiian suffering. But sure—tell me again it’s only Israel.

Ayoopkid · 07/10/2025 16:07

JustJani · 07/10/2025 09:48

And it certainly isn't "small and unobtrusive" - it's extremely visible and obvious.

Is that a problem? It’s not like there are thousands of them protesting every week intimidating Muslims or something. It’s a memorial for the Jewish community even more pertinently now, both on the memorial of Oct 7 and the recent terror attack.
