To be concerned about my neighbours?

My neighbours are a young couple with a toddler. I normally seem them but I haven’t for 3 days now. All their lights and curtains hahe been drawn but their cars are still on the drive and haven’t moved. Or am I over thinking? It just seems a bit unusual. We are rural and you can’t really get to anywhere without a car, not even local shop. Also they’re not abroad or anything, as I actually spoke to the lady neighbour the other day and she said someone from the council was meant to be coming round

So it appears they are back. I have seen the male walking the dog this evening, did not see the lady and the little one though.

can I just point out, I would say I am a nosy neighbour. I just see them walking past my window regularly. Usually together at the same time of the day walking the dog. We also have a shared drive way so I obviously see when their cars are there

Ditto

Well given the OP's update, have you now decided that he has killed the wife and child and spent three days disposing of the body?😅😅

What ?

MeTooOverHere · 08/10/2025 00:35

"he has killed the wife and child and spent three days disposing of the body"

Oh definitely!

That's it.

Umbrella15 · 08/10/2025 00:47

Maybe they have gone on holidays, and took a taxi to the airport

moto748e · 08/10/2025 00:51

Glad it's turned out all good, OP. It hasn't been a joke for you.

BlakeCarrington · 08/10/2025 00:53

Phew! Glad they’re back, and you too OP. I was worried you too had been sucked into the same swirling vortex of evil that got your neighbours, p’raps when you were looking through the letterbox.

BlakeCarrington · 08/10/2025 00:54

Although fair do’s for keeping a neighbourly eye out.

You clearly are a nosy neighbour

WeeGeeBored · 08/10/2025 03:33

Now that this “drama” is over it is weird to reflect on the abuse poured on those of us who urged calm and caution in jumping to conclusions.

I feel as though there is nothing good on the telly so people are conjuring up true crime scenarios to keep themselves entertained.

This thread is one of a couple that speculate on dark goings on at the neighbours.

Freudian slip.

Scandalicious · 08/10/2025 04:10

I don’t think you have come across as a nosy neighbour at all OP.
I am relieved you don’t now need to take any further action, and all is well.
Who can say when any one of us may have to rely on the observances or care of neighbours to help us.

Steeleydan · 08/10/2025 05:21

Lynn981 · 06/10/2025 23:02

No, the curtains have stayed drawn. And no lights on at all, for 3 nights

Maybe they gone to stay with family and someone picked them up

FFS

What a surprise

Not

LBFseBrom · 08/10/2025 06:13

I'm glad all is well. I thought it would be but one never knows, at least now you are reasured.

You could call the police and report your concerns. They maybe able to carry out a welfare visit.

So, if you go away for a few days and don’t tell your neighbours would you expect them to call the police because they haven’t seen you?

if it was ten days or a couple of weeks I might understand but three days?

WeeGeeBored · 08/10/2025 06:27

RosyDaysAhead · 07/10/2025 20:58

Contact the police on 101 and ask them to do a welfare check

I think if I was on the end of that call I would suggest a welfare check on the op because they seem to be suffering with anxiety.

Greysowhat · 08/10/2025 06:59

The male and the lady ! 😅

Zanatdy · 08/10/2025 07:02

When you are at home a lot and have a living room window looking out onto the street, of course you notice people’s comings and goings and times they are out / home. Most people have routine’s, I tend to leave and return home the same times. I walk the dog the same times, within a 5-10 min slot as I like routine. Perfectly normal if neighbours know my routine. Doesn’t make them nosey.

caramac04 · 08/10/2025 07:07

Glad all seems well OP.
For those who think some of us jumped to dramatic scenarios; this week I read of a situation where a young mother died of a drugs overdose. Her baby was strapped in a car seat and her toddler had tried to feed the baby with egg and egg shells. Tragically the baby also died before anyone had checked and gained access to the house. The toddler survived.

Initially I thought 'oh how refreshing for an OP to come back and really reflect and have self awareness' but it turns out it was a typo 😬 OP I say this very kindly and gently but maybe this whole saga will make you reflect on things?

Can you imagine the amount of phone calls to police and requests for welfare checks on people who simply left their home for a few days without fully informing their neighbours first? 😬😬😬

sunflowersintheday · 07/10/2025 16:23

Don't you like to open them in the morning, and let the sunshine in? Greet the day? Open the windows?.

I get up before my husband so leave the bedroom ones closed.

The ones in the living room are never closed and I don’t have any anywhere else. And I don’t believe I’ve ever ‘greeted the day’ tbh.
