To finally agree with a junior doctors strike

Horsehow · 06/10/2025 18:20

Junior doctors have decided to strike as they are being overlooked for jobs / training posts which are instead given to international applicants. I’ve always abhorred their money grabbing strikes in the past, but support this one 100%. UK doctors should be recruited where possible, and international graduates only turned to where we cannot find a suitable recruit in the UK.

@PurpleFairyLights apparently we've been eaten for breakfast 😂. Sitting at the airport just catching up with the latest insults and utter rubbish.

We won. They lost. I'll pour the 🥂

Enjoy. The new one cannot find an interview so it does not exist.

Iain Dale and Tom Swarbrick have been very interested in this situation for weeks.

Oh dear 😂I don't think 13 GCSEs 10 grade A* and 3 grade A is bad at GCSE.

Enjoy reading old posts. Very creepy.

Edited

I think it was yesterday. Certainly on this thread. What the fuck is creepy about that - weird thing to say.

In terms of predicting potential, a clean sweep is better.

It’s the jobs shortage too?

Newly-qualified doctors in their first year of practice in England have voted in favour of strike action in a row over a shortage of jobs.

The British Medical Association (BMA) union says thousands of resident doctors are ending up without speciality training places when they finish year two of training.

But if they had JUST focused on the unemployed UKMG it would have 10 x the impact. The BMA are so tone deaf. Who advises them about communicating fgs?

Does the BMA say that 54% of doctors at the end of year two choose not to apply for training posts?

Or do they omit this detail?

A medical worker in scrubs is pictured in a hospital ward leaning forward and taking a tray from a table. A patient on the other side of the table is obscured by a curtain, with just their hand visible. They are holding a tissue.

I totally agree with you. The out of control IMG applications that have resulted in so many unemployed UKMGs is the most important point.

There is no money for a pay rise.

Haha did you get Grand Canal envy? I was also in Paris last week, ahead of Venice.

These are the stats. 20,802 IMGs applied for UK specialty training.

stuffedpeppers · 23/10/2025 20:09

Ah the insults are back ! So sad that their only argument now is rudeness. V sad to see such bad losers.

There are no winners and losers in this argument. No one is anti UKMG or pro IMGs but people have offered alternative counter arguments to the one size fits all and will ensure we train the wrong people in the wrong jobs simply because they are guaranteed employment.

I advocate for a nuanced system, having seen the impact of run through training before.

I do not agree with the strikes for pay - I would agree with a strike that reduced the punitive interest rartes on ALL student loans not just for those working in the NHS.

It is such a shame that you can not see one size does not fit all and that to get the best doctors in this country we need a flexible system that is reactive and proactive to the changing winds of healthcare.

Mums you and purple want one thing - some of us what a nuanced system but you seem unable to proffer a sane, polite argument based on facts as to why that is not the right way forward.

PurpleFairyLights · 21/10/2025 20:24

There are other threads on this topic thst you may find interesting.

My son has 13 GCSEs 10 are A and 3 grade A. 4 A A levels. Very high marks in MBBS from a top university.

Had enough points for foundation years in very competitive deanery. Got into surgical training first attempt and passed MRCS part A and part B first time.

He failed to get into higher surgical training as the competition ratios are now ridiculous.

He has done everything by the book like most UKMGs but been let down by UK government allowing IMGs to apply to specialty training in such huge numbers that the ratios are ridiculous.

Fair on UKMGs? 63% of applications for specialty training were from IMGs in 2025.

Here you go PurpleFairyLights. Less than 48 hours ago.

Let's see if you have even entry level grace to apologise. Hardly old and most certainly not 'creepy'. Also I didn't look it up - I just clocked it as a pretty curious thing to boast about.

There is a pro-IMG group here that will not have cause to celebrate. The light will now be shining on the uncontrolled IMG applications in the context of unemployed UKMGs.

You seem to not fully disclose your opinions but reading between the lines it is very clear what they are.

So? He has 13 GCSEs three are grade A and 10 are grade A and 4 grade A at A level (without parents getting involved)

Unfortunately still think it is odd behaviour on your part.

To remember something you said two evenings ago? Hardly. I can remember stuff from years/ decades ago, in fine detail.

What's odd - and I mean really quite odd - is boasting about such grades. And now I've gone back and quoted to show you how recent this boast was, what on earth is the comment '(without parents getting involved)' supposed to mean. Odder and odder.

Sevillian · 23/10/2025 20:33

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if your DS wasn't a fine young man who would be mortified by his mother's behaviour on this thread.

Good for you. Just because I mixed up GCSE grades 😂

Going through my posts to catch me out is weird.

I've already said, explicitly, I remembered this particular boast because it struck me as odd to draw attention to three dropped grades.

False premise again.

No need to look back.

Also, the comment about no parental involvement is odd. What do you mean?
