To be absolutely fuming about the digital ID thing?

summerlovingvibes · 06/10/2025 13:52

I work as a nurse in England.

I just feel absolutely fuming about the digital ID proposals and don't know how to channel my anger??

I very strongly object to this. It makes my blood boil when I think about it and I feel anxious knowing that something like this may be imposed on us all.

It is not going to stop illegal immigration. That line is absolute BS. They're doing it for their own selfish reasons.

What do we do? I don't want to not work, but I am going to refuse to have one. So my employer may sack me?!

It's just ridiculous!

Obviously I've signed the petition, emailed my MP, will join any protests etc.

But practically speaking - will my employer actually sack me for not having one?

Because without one and showing it is very likely you won't be able to:

Get a job
Move house (both rental and buying)
Access a bank account
Access healthcare
Claim benefits
Buy restricted goods (booze and fags)

This whole digital ID is being implemented world wide at the same time as part of the 2030 agenda. It will be used to micromanage your life once the Digital Currency is in place which for the Euro is this month and the Britcoin version will follow shortly after.

Once the control grid is in place, you really won't be able to complain without very personal consequences. Like the Trucker protests in Canada, they will just turn off your bank account.

Ah I see…
So how do you propose we escape this agenda?

AgnesX · 06/10/2025 17:51

Quite the overreaction. If you're already employed you won't need one.

It's going to be useful for a lot of people.

Don’t worry, Agenda 2030 is totally made up, so you don’t need to worry about escaping it.

Depends what it’s added to, house sales so far. It could be anything really.

If there was a regular card option would you be okay with that?

Not really, but it's a million times better than the proposed always-on spying system. I have a passport, why do I need something extra?
I thought that this country was short of funds so why are they squandering money on this unnecessary exercise?

@BadgernTheGarden & @Horsehow obviously I know all of these things - I don't live under a rock!
I don't like the fact that it can be used to add more and more and more restrictions and control over time. They will add things in, track and trace your every move and link it with everything which I fundamentally do not want. I hate the idea of it being linked to house buying and selling, bank accounts, eventually vaccine data.

I do not trust them one iota to not fuck things up or get things wrong.

And basically I want to keep control of who I give my information to and when!

But nearly everything you have mentioned is already linked together in government data bases - including house buying and selling to a certain extent as past addresses are in a few of the different linked systems.

For those who are objecting to the government tracking you - they already have all that info - creating a digital ID isn’t going to give them any more information.

As for making you use the ID to access different parts of life - that could happen without the single ID - it could be required to give your NI number etc.

What’s the point of spending billions on it?

You clearly haven’t had to deal with a death for a while. The “Tell us once” service works really well. Everything from pension to passport to driving licence to benefits to council tax get sorted with a simple 5 minute website form.

Unlike private companies like utilities and banks and phone companies which can be a bloody nightmare.

www.gov.uk/after-a-death/organisations-you-need-to-contact-and-tell-us-once

So this just backs up that bringing things together helps. If they have this info in one place then adding an ID card sends the next step. Not everyone has a passport or driving licence and with ai you can easily make a fake utility bill.

I think it’s to have a way to hold the employers to account more - at the moment they have no way of checking if an NI number which is proof of your right to work is genuinely attached to the person who presents it.

You have a National Insurance number. A tax ID. Im assuming a passport and/or driving licence

An NHS number. A publicly available address.

What exactly do you think this is other than an amalgamation of this is info?

GentleSheep · 06/10/2025 18:07

I agree with you OP. It'll be very hard to opt out of eventually as more and more systems will require it. Also other countries are similarly bringing it in one way or another. All you can do is protest, write to your MP and insist on paper rather than digital means of identification, but sooner or later it'll be impossible to work etc without it.

I don’t think a lot of people realize just how much all their info is linked up in the government database. I wouldn’t have thought of it, if I hadn’t had a job which involved looking people up.

You were also forbidden from accessing your own file - which was sooooo tempting.

Employers do ask for right to work in the U.K., I’ve always been asked for proof. An employer that doesn’t do that won’t with another form of ID. What would make them?

So do NI cards with photos on. But it's nothing to do with "holding employers to account". It's a fabrication that Starmer would like you to believe.
I'll bet that every piece of legislation he brings out in the next four years will be heralded as Stopping The Boats.

But what’s your proof? NI number and a separate photo ID? There’s no way to easily check that the NI number hasn’t been shared or stolen from someone else because it has no photo attached to it.

Now the Benefits Agency can check in their systems that your NI number and your drivers licence photo match the person sitting in front of them. The average employer doesn’t have that option.

Why do you think this would happen? Which vaccines?

Eta: I am interested in your take on the new arrangements to travel to Europe. Are you worried about those too?

Can someone who is anti the digital ID explain what the main objection is?

Everyone of you is already in a government database where all this information is already available to people working in government departments.

Most people have to give their NI number for employment - how is that different from showing another kind of ID?

I’m not sure whether I’m entirely for or against at this stage but one difference between paper forms of ID & digital ones is that your phone is on you all the time & can track your location.

BeardofHagrid · 06/10/2025 18:21

Refuse, refuse, refuse. They’ve already said they won’t be forcing anyone to have it.

Got it. I thought you meant specifically for house buying.

monkeybag123 · 06/10/2025 18:23

Semi off grid !!!!! Are you also a little bit vegan ? You are on social media so the world already knows your life , all your private stuff and the fact you probably went glamping last summer and own a woodburning stove , do nothing as you are doing it to yourself , never mind the government .
