Which changes in a product you’d liked have been the worst?

Just bought some Huggies wet wipes for the first time in a while. I use them to take makeup off, and they are the only wet wipe that are really effective. They’re thick and somehow really remove the dirt well. But they’ve changed and are now utterly, utterly shite. They’re thin and remove nothing. Why oh why do they do this? Do they not test the product in manufacturing and think ‘this is obviously a shit move’? So frustrating.

See also Ribena. Used to be a great occasional drink to soothe a sore throat, now it tastes of nothing but chemicals. Why do that?

Surely no one will buy the new Huggies Wet wipes? Surely only 10% of the old Ribena buyers still buy. What is the sense in this commercially?

@SisterMargarettayou are right, “A Mars a day helps you work, rest and play” was 80s - we had a choc bar every Monday after school in the 70s and we were deprived compared to friends. Thirty years ago was 1995 not 1945!!!!

Livelaughlurgy · 05/10/2025 09:01

Huggies are probably like Johnson's wipes, I bought them for cleaning because they were so good. But wouldn't actually use them on my babies skin- if there's enough alcohol to remove thick make up the chances are it's overkill for a babies bum. Anyway, Johnson's removed all the alcohol and now they won't get wine out of a carpet anymore. But more parents probably buy them.

Livelaughlurgy · 05/10/2025 09:02

@Shineonyoucrazy you've got your math wrong, 30 years ago was the 1970's 😉 IYKYK

T gel shampoo for psoriasis. It used to be really effective in its sticky brown formula. It’s been changed now it’s feeling useless!

SomethingFun · 05/10/2025 09:11

Mitchum deodorant it the worst one for me as it set my armpits on fire. Chocolate, sweets etc are so disappointing and sad - it’s not like they’re actually ‘cheap’ anyway.

Nutella chocolate spread. Nowadays the flavour is sweeter and less chocolatey.

It's full of palm oil. Palm oil wrecks products, and plus it's very distructive to the environment (and poor orangutans)

deirdrerasheed · 05/10/2025 10:14

In about 1986 they changed wagon wheel. They are smaller and less marshmallowy. I'm still grieving.

Twinings decaff Earl Grey tea. Used to be perfect, now tastes like petrol.

Try the Tesco finest version, we prefer it!

what annoys me though is that the big companies have decided for us that we only want cheap products.

I would love to see them bring back the old style products, even at the price they would be today to run side by side the cheap ones and see which ones people pick.

I know I would much rather have occasional lovely expensive chocolate than regular nasty cheap stuff that we have today and I don’t think I’m the only one.

I am totally behind this idea!

DiscoBob · 05/10/2025 10:45

I hear you on Ribena. It's utter muck now with tons of shitty sweeteners.

I think nearly all soft drinks now have sweeteners. Only regular coke now that doesn't. Even regular pepsi now has sweeteners.

I don't even hate sweeteners, I eat protein bars and like them in coffee. But not in soda!

The Body Shop have ruined most of their products and and also Lee Stafford's new smell 😔 I know they were forced to change the smell due to some sort of regulations but I'm still gutted since that's the only reason I bought it.

Lee Stafford got lots of comments on Twitter and said he was also sad to lose the original fragrance but never explained why. I can’t put my finger on what it smelled like, another perfume or maybe play doh?!
They released a hair fragrance spray with their original fragrance not long ago. Not sure if it’s still available.

My grandma had dementia and accused my of poisoning her when I gave her Cadburys chocolate buttons.

Sgtmajormummy · 05/10/2025 11:49

Rolos. Every packet I buy now has the powdery “bloom” of chocolate that’s been overheated.
Old fashioned Head and Shoulders. It was alkaline, I know, but my hair would actually do as it was told. Wilko had a replacement for a few years and now they’ve gone bust, too.

MichelleCancelled · 05/10/2025 11:51

Vimto, the non low sugar version still doesn't taste right. The taste of my childhood.

BuffetTheDietSlayer · 04/10/2025 20:35

Cadbury dairy milk. No other chocolate tastes as Cadbury’s used to, I loved it.

I actually feel quite sad that the younger people won’t ever get to taste it’s deliciousness. Sad

Yes it tastes crap now

suburburban · 05/10/2025 12:23

Yes the chocolate is dry rather than that lovely taste you used to get

does Galaxy still exist because it was always nicer than DM imo

i don't tend to buy chocolate nowadays also the shrinkflation irritates me e.g. crunchy

Tonys is still nice

SALaw · 05/10/2025 12:43

A few years ago Simple moisturiser changed it’s formula and I instantly came out in a burning rash.

SilkAndSparklesForParties · 05/10/2025 12:44

When they stopped including the giblets with a chicken. EEC I think.

shellyleppard · 05/10/2025 12:47

Fairy washing up liquid....its so weak now. I used to leave stuff to soak for 15-20 minutes and it was lovely and frothy. Now all the bubbles have gone after 5 minutes 😳😳
Also the size of the quality street and roses chocolate tins.... always used to get a tin of each for Christmas. Now they are so tiny its not worth bothering with 😔😔

allthegrass · 05/10/2025 12:54

Lucozade is the biggest one tastes nothing like it used to do !

Deliveroo · 05/10/2025 12:54

I bought a packet of rolos a couple of years ago and when I tasted it I turned the packet over thinking I’d been duped by a lookalike brand. I hadn’t had a rolo since the early 1980s and what I had in my mouth didn’t come close.

It was a weird twist on a Proust’s Madeleine moment and I felt so sad about never being able to experience a rolo ever again, that I just went off chocolate completely.

Then I got off sugar, and I’m now low upf, so it’s been helpful really. Of course I’d noticed cadburys turning to shite, and the loss of quality street and chocolate orange but that rolo was the last straw.

PangolinPan · 05/10/2025 13:04

San Pellegrino for me. I used to have an aranciata as a treat on a cafe or whatever and the last time I one it tasted like it had been concocted in a lab. Disgusting.

I really miss the dairy milk that came in the paper and purple foil wrapper.

daddysgirlnot · 05/10/2025 13:16

Nina perfume. The original was beautiful, I used it as my something borrowed on my wedding day. The new version smells horrible.

Yes, totally agree

Sainsbury's Hearty Vegetable Soup.

It used to not have sugar or potatoes in it, the two things I was avoiding. And it was the only one locally which didn't include them.

Then it did and became like every other veg soup which I don't want to eat.
