I think you are somewhat struggling with your comprehension skills.

If you can't interpret what's in black and white, when the rest of the thread have no difficulty, there's not really much any of us can do about that.

Alas, that probably "doesn't make sense" to you either.

😂

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 07/10/2025 23:15

Who is it? I never have overnight guests now but if I had a big house I would all the time I would love to be able to host

I'm well confused now, that don't make sense.

Me DH and the dog have a 5 bed house. At a push you could call it 7 if you included a couple other random rooms.
One is our bedroom
One is converted into a walk in wardrobe
One is my office
Two are in the guest suite. Guests come from thousands of miles away for weeks/months so thats why we bought it.

I have a five bed five reception house - me my husband and three dogs. Bedrooms used as follows: main bedroom for us, guest room, two dressing rooms, my home office. Downstairs is: library, living room, dining room, hubands’s home office and one room that we have never been able to decide on - currently being used as a gym.

it’s a lot of space and we spend a lot on cleaning and maintenance. However I love having a dressing room and a library. We could easily live in a smaller house but fell in love with this one. Large garden which the dogs love. Absent awful life events we can afford it. So we thought why not

KillMeMounjaro · 09/10/2025 17:32

Childless couple bought our last 5-bedroomed house!
We have 6 bedrooms now (only 2 regularly used, as all bar one DC have left home) and four large receps. I’m in heaven. Always wanted a big house. Couldn’t give a toss if anyone approves or not.

It seems concept of irony is up there with comprehension levels.

I think as long as all the people in big houses with multiple spare bedrooms dont object to new housing developments near them, fine. I'm my experience, they are the first to object though.
I went to a talk a while ago about a housing research project a university did. They said that in theory we don't need to build a single new house in the UK, there are more than enough bedrooms in the existing housing stock for everyone.

Yes, pictures instead of words does seem fitting.

Tell me, which American state are you from?

Edited

Maybe so, but how do you share them out?
Moving people to smaller social/rented accommodation is one thing, but you can hardly forcibly sell people’s private property just because they have a spare bedroom.

If they can afford the house and you are not expected to chip in, I can’t understand why you’d feel you had any say in the decision?

MyDogHumpsThings · 10/10/2025 22:02

I have a 5-bed and no children at home. My daughter comes home in the uni holidays. I like to have two bedrooms for me and my husband as he snores, so I kick him out when he’s too annoying. The other two bedrooms are used as offices as we both work mainly from home. Could actually do with a dedicated guest room, but since we don’t often have guests I’d make do having my husband in my bed :-)

No, no, that's your inability to read the words written down and announcing that because you couldn't comprehend, it made no sense. Then followed various nonsense you came out with, then tried to backpedal...

So, sorry, I can't put that into your beloved emojis.

Oh! Perhaps....you are a man....

I live in a 4 bed house with no kids. Just me and DH. I’ve turned one bedroom into a dressing room, one into a guest bedroom which is used once in a blue moon and the other is just full of junk 😂 still, I love the house and have no intentions of moving

Yet another man trampling all over Mumsnet.

Sorry @Donotpanicoknowpanic - @FortnumsWeddingBreakfastTeaPlease wins as their original post made perfect sense and their use of irony is amusing.

QueenOfCastille · 11/10/2025 08:46

We have a 5 bed house. It’s an old Victorian one, and is huge, awkward, draughty, cold, hard to maintain, and I love it. It has been brilliant for hosting parties, doing big family Christmases, and working from home.

We will sell it when the children leave home, though. It will be far too big for two of us.

ARichtGoodDram · 11/10/2025 08:51

So four bedrooms for four people and an office for the person who works from home two days a week. It's hardly a mansion with a tonne of unused rooms...

KillMeMounjaro · 11/10/2025 08:59

Oh don’t encourage them @oviraptor21

Actually, no.

If you're ok with men trampling all over your voice, then that's your call.

It's not acceptable to me and I will not allow that behaviour towards me, on what is known as a women's forum (that, for inclusion, has it's own Dadsnet section).

So no, it's not "childish and pathetic" to stand up to men that do this.

3 years ago we downsized to a 5bed bungalow, there’s 3 of us at home now.

DH and I have our own bedroom and dd has the third the 4th is for my grandchildren who often stay most weeks.

we also have a kitchen/dinner , dinning room, living room, family bathroom and wc, all bedrooms have an en-suite, 2 conservatories, craft room, study, and a double garage for DH’s workshop. 2 sheds and a greenhouse outside. The study and the craft room both have sofa beds for when the adult DC stay as does the smaller conservatory .

we downsized from a 7 bedroom have 5 children, and have found it really difficult to adjust. Is this house to big for 3 - probably, but we like our space and when everyone visits we need the room, tbh one of the big selling facts was the size of the living room in this place it’s big enough for 2 3 seat sofas and 2 armchairs with plenty of room fir the children to play.

I consider the house to be an investment and as we are getting older it safe guards our money if either of us needs care.
