11 million immigrants since 2000. When I

Sorry, it’s another immigration one.

I always see immigration discussed in terms of race, religion, who may or may not be a good fit for the UK, whether it’s by small boats - to be honest, this is not the biggest worry for me.

The biggest worry is the sheer increase in our population and how many people this country can reasonably accommodate. We are now 8th in Europe for population density - only behind Belgium and the Netherlands, and a handful of places like Vatican City and the Channel Islands. At present we have net migration of around 500,000 a year.

I’m worried that the key issues of overpopulation are being overlooked to make this conversation all about race. What about our pollution levels, wildlife habitats, flood risk, food security, infrastructure? Will this eventually be a polluted city state country? It seems to be heading that way.

Posters always say we need immigration, but we have already welcome 11 million since 2000. If that still isn’t enough; what is? Or do we just keep going?

We import more food partly because our tastes & culinary habits have altered over the last 100 years!

Tell me you know nothing about food production….

Immigration is what is needed - supports an aging population - who do you think is going to fund your state pension and look after you when you need help?

I think the many unskilled workers coming in are going to be taking out far more than they pay in.

Who will fund the immigrant worker’s state pensions when they’re old and have followed our birth rate patterns? More immigration. Do you have a total in mind or would you like the UK to be a city state in a couple of hundred years?

You think immigrants don’t have babies? I look forward to your data to back that up.

I did ask you to explain your comment. Can you do that?

Exactly. They really, really think they’re immune to global conflict and that we will always have cheap foreign labour to grow and import our food.

Of course they do, but they also die. So they, along with people born in the UK, are contributing towards birth and death rates. You said I was ignoring who was responsible for those births - immigrants make up a small proportion of the UK population, feel free to provide some stats that show that they give birth at a higher rate and die at a lower rate than people born in the UK. Otherwise their impact on overall birth to death rates is going to be lower than the impact of those born in the United Kingdom

Im an immigrant, been here 30 years. I’ve paid tax all this time, never got benefits. I know of a British born person who has never worked, has 2 children, got herself a good benefits lawyer. Never worked, children go to state-paid private schools because SEN whilst indulging in very expensive hobbies as a lifestyle choice. Go figure. But I’m the bad guy here?

(1) I am sure that you are not the sort of person the average Farage (spit) supporter wants to get rid of.

(2) I am sure that half the country would support deporting british criminal layabout types if they could. It is not our fault that immigrants can be deported in a way that Brits can't.

(3) And following on from (2)... whilst we should treat immigrants will respect and according to the law, surely you must understand that no sane country will ever regard immigrants exactly like native born people. If you and your family are here for decades then the kids you have here, and their kids will become ever more embedded and british, but as someone born abroad surely you never expected to be treated exactly like a native?

Depends whether you think money is all a person can contribute or not....

And you think that whole 11 million is immigrants? I think you've had a bit of a mare here and should probably delete this post

People are living longer… which partly explains the population increase, along with births etc. it’s not 11m migrants.

Haha...the fact that you think the British born population could ensure smooth running of this country's public services is laughable.

Edited

That is incredible racist. Imagine saying that about another country’s population?

JaneEyre40 · 04/10/2025 09:46

CatchingtheCat · 04/10/2025 09:35

On the contrary, you see the impact of immigration on demand for public services.

That doesn't negate my point. Who is going to educate your children in a London school? Immigrants! Who is going to fix your broken leg? Immigrants! Who is going to pick up your rubbish? Immigrants!

yep - prior to 2000 all our public services were terrible, we all lived in abject squalor and poverty, most people could barely read and write, and everyone married their cousin...

And when they age? You need even more people. How long does it keep going up?

And who is going to educate their children? More immigrants. Etc

Why doesn’t anybody ever answer the logical question, which is how many people can comfortably live in the UK?

OP doesn’t understand birth and death rates unfortunately. Only that the population has increased by 11 million and for reasons they can’t explain this must be immigration. I’ve provided the number of births and number of deaths between 2000-2021 but I think maybe it was just too many big numbers for OP to understand. Or it’s easy to just say immigrants bad but not be able to explain why.

HappyGolmore2 · 04/10/2025 09:48

DP is an immigrant, highest tax payer, top 1% earner been here 20 odd years. As af amount we contribute more in tax than we take ‘out’ of the system.
funnily enough most people don’t seem to be bothered that a white, western immigrant is here…

This did make me smile. It’s like they forget there was an (arguably better) functioning country before the huge immigration rise started

I don't think it's racist. I think it's possibly factual. I would say it about another country if they relied on immigrants for the running of their public services. You don't agree that the vast majority of public services in this country are staffed by immigrants? Perhaps because I live in London it is more obvious.

We have, in clear numbers, the net immigration since the 1990s. I’ve demonstrated how even a conservative add up of these numbers is 9 million people. Immigrants have more babies than British citizens, hence the numbers you are seeing.

So it doesn’t matter if what people think is factually correct or not, we should just accept it and act on those views as if they were factually correct? I think that was tried in Nazi Germany actually….

No, I did not say that.

If someone was convincing people that drinking a litre of bleach before breakfast was a great idea we should be trying to persuade people that it is a lie and the bleach will kill them. And we would succeed because there would be news reports of people dying after drinking bleach, and people would know of people at work or in their street who had done it and died.

Convincing someone that immigration is not a problem when they see, every single day with their own eyes, that their community has changed in ways they do not like, is simply not going to work even if the stats are on your side.

And, given we have mass immigration the stats are not on your side.

And it is not even relevant what net immigration is - people would rather a falling population that one that is only staying level due to mass immigration, let alone one that is rising.

HarrisonsHair · 04/10/2025 09:49

My narrative that overpopulation is bad for wildlife and food security?
