11 million immigrants since 2000. When I

Sorry, it’s another immigration one.

I always see immigration discussed in terms of race, religion, who may or may not be a good fit for the UK, whether it’s by small boats - to be honest, this is not the biggest worry for me.

The biggest worry is the sheer increase in our population and how many people this country can reasonably accommodate. We are now 8th in Europe for population density - only behind Belgium and the Netherlands, and a handful of places like Vatican City and the Channel Islands. At present we have net migration of around 500,000 a year.

I’m worried that the key issues of overpopulation are being overlooked to make this conversation all about race. What about our pollution levels, wildlife habitats, flood risk, food security, infrastructure? Will this eventually be a polluted city state country? It seems to be heading that way.

Posters always say we need immigration, but we have already welcome 11 million since 2000. If that still isn’t enough; what is? Or do we just keep going?

yes exactly

it not hatred anyway just dissatisfaction with the way things are becoming and how the government or governments haven’t listened

I find the accusations of ‘hatred’ to be such a thought terminating cliche.

I don’t believe in arbitrary ‘hatred’. Most of what people call hatred is frustration, resentment or displeasure which has reached boiling point. Even Osama bin Laden didn’t do what he did though arbitrary hatred, he did it because of what he perceived to be intolerable interference from the West in the Middle East.

Accusing people of simple hatred is just so utterly childish, and always makes me think they just need some handy simple mud to throw as they can’t debate the wider issue properly.

Yes indeed, it’s so OTTT and shuts down debate

which is what has happened for years’

Myrtletown · 05/10/2025 16:08

It's silly to say hatred will be targeted towards someone else once immigration is sorted. If that was the case don't you think people would have turned against benefit claimants before immigration even became a problem? Having said that I happen to think that there should be a review of the benefits system

do you even realise how deeply ironic this response is @Livelovebehappy

Hang on, you’re a Bin Laden sympathiser now?

He did what he did because he was a radicalised terrorist who brainwashed others into the cult. I’m not sure it’s good to align your cause with that

Don’t be so utterly ridiculous.

I said people have ‘reasons’ even if they make no sense or are heinous.

This notion of arbitrary ‘hate’ that springs from nowhere is a construct used to shut down addressing those ‘reasons’.

I completely agree. But if you want to encourage women to have more children, that's going to cost money. A lot of it.

I think it’s more than money. More people are single for longer which also does not help.

This sounds like epic victim blaming.

Agreed - the cost of living/housing is a factor, as is the fact that especially women are less likely now to put up with men who want someone who gives them kids, works full time and also does every scrap of housework and childcare.

But what is your actual point.

No. The welfare bill has risen significantly in the last couple of years. The government have tried to address it since they got in but have had resistrnce from their back benches. So clearly starmer has concerns already.

Papyrophile · 05/10/2025 18:43

This is probably too much information. but we have just given our only child £300k to buy a home, when they are ready to commit to an area. One of us has to live for seven years.

Papyrophile · 05/10/2025 18:46

And yes, it was given/ The bank transfers say Gifted deposit.

What’s that got to do with the price of fish?
