Colleague sent me message by mistake

Islandhopper10 · 03/10/2025 17:15

Our team work remotely but we get together quarterly in person. Yesterday was a meeting in the office in the morning followed by a social so it was casual dress.

I was messaging a colleague earlier back and forth about work matters and he sent something really random and then instantly deleted it but I saw it pop up as a notification so read it.

It said ‘she knew what she was doing in those leggings’ with a sweat emoji.

Now I was the only one wearing leggings yesterday so it was definitely about me. This was at about 3.30 today and I finished at 4 so nothing more was said and I expect my colleague thinks he deleted it before I saw it.

Would you say something if you were me or pretend/forget I ever saw it?

I don’t think you should do anything except reflect on whether that was suitable workwear.

This needs to be pinned on the thread. What that man said was completely.unacceptable and drips misogyny. It implies that OP was dressing to get male attention and in particular the attention of the men having that conversation. It's vile to think they would discuss their female colleagues appearance like that and makes you wonder what else they have said about other female colleagues.

Thank you. I can't understand posters who say it's a compliment. Perhaps they're happy to objectified as part of a meat market.

Bobnobob · 04/10/2025 09:26

Wow, pages of women telling the OP she didn’t look good in the leggings and leggings are trashy and not suitable workwear. Then tripping over themselves to explain that it’s not jealousy and they too are attractive but too classy to wear leggings. Classic MN.

OP you are young and fit and looked good in your outfit. Your male colleagues appreciated it and messages each other to say so. It’s a non issue really.

With respect to my colleagues, and I love most of the ladies dearly. But the average size is probably 16, so I don’t think leggings feature too prominently in their wardrobe!

This sounds more sexist (and way more derogatory) than the original comment OP was concerned about!

Thephantom · 04/10/2025 09:33

-I don’t need my work colleagues to point out I have a nice arse. I know I do. An ex once said if he could choose how he’d leave this earth then he’d spend an afternoon buried underneath it..

So it's fair comment on the part of your colleagues -like he said - you knew what you were doing when you wore those leggings. You wanted attention on your arse and you got it. So you've come back here for more attention on your arse.

It's clear the OP is up her own arse when it comes to her arse 😂

It was meant to be a compliment, a bit sleazy but I’d be inclined to just ignore it TBH. Can any Teams user honestly say they haven’t sent a message that is a bit inappropriate (not about someone’s appearance, just generally) and would have been mortified if it had gone to the wrong person (which is easily done!)

Yes, I can. Teams messaging at work is for work matters. I've never seen or sent anything inappropriate.

So you take the op’s word for it when she says that she so much hotter than the fat ladies she works with, and can wear scrunch leggings because she has an arse to die for.

But you don’t accept that there are women who say that they also feel that they are beautiful women, but don’t feel the need to parade around in such cheap looking clothing and she needs to consider her environment?

I called scrunch leggings trashy, because that’s what they are. Most people I’ve seen in them, must be buying them from cheap websites, because not only are they horrible in design, but they are all bobbly or nasty fabric.

I’ve never been into Mango, Next or Shore and seen them selling scrunch leggings, even when I’ve been into LuLuLemon or Fabletics they don’t sell those leggings. So they are more likely to have come from Amazon or Shein.

The op could I’m sure look beautiful in plenty of other things, as could the ladies she works with, who are not exempt from looking good because of their size, and 16 isn’t even very big if you ask me, certainly not deserving of fat shaming. But those scrunch leggings - glorifying the anus is not the look for anyone, unless you’re a porn obsessed anal fanatic (in my opinion of course) and the message they send is unprofessional and sleazy at best.

The op asked, she got opinions.

It probably didn’t happen to be fair. Op just wanted to brag that she has a nice arse. Most people know not to write things like that on a workplace messaging platform.

Islandhopper10 · 03/10/2025 20:17

This is all very entertaining I must say, I didn’t expect the replies to exceed page 1!

A couple of points:

-I don’t need my work colleagues to point out I have a nice arse. I know I do. An ex once said if he could choose how he’d leave this earth then he’d spend an afternoon buried underneath it..

-I work for a PR company, forward thinking, ran by strong women. They have no issue with casual office wear and the founder often wears similar leggings herself.

To be honest Op, you sound like you have a really high opinion of yourself and you have an inflated ego.

Maybe you wanted the deleted message to be about you as you like the attention?

Just leave it - these things happen. Ask yourself the question “have I ever commented on a man’s looks, body, clothes in a positive way to a fellow female colleague “? If the answer is yes - just let it go

God forbid anyone of “gasp” size 16 would think about putting a pair of leggings on.
I was totally convinced your shoulder report the misogynist to HR at the start of the thread but it turns out you hold similar putrid views about women you feel are less attractive than yourself .

Wearing scrunch bum leggings implies that the OP WAS in fact trying to draw ATTENTION to her bum, that's the only point to these leggings. Jobs a goodun I guess hey OP?

I agree. I was firmly of the view the comment should be reported but OP is as unpleasant as the person who made it.

Was with you till this and now you can fuck off. I wore leggings at size 16, is there a reason I shouldn't?

The leggings are trashy and not suitable work wear. Have you actually googled ‘Scrunch Leggings’?

I’m now convinced that the guy was just as likely to be mocking her for wearing inappropriate clothes to work/attention seeking vs being sleazy.

OP has a disgustingly inflated sense of ego - she clearly thinks her arse is beautiful annd heaven sent, and nobody else can compare. And a disgusting view of women too - why the hell can’t women over 16 wear leggings?!

They’re just not appropriate for work whatever your size..

Alideascope · 04/10/2025 10:17

Islandhopper10 · 03/10/2025 20:40

Of course not. My point was that they are hardly the most flattering item of clothing for the larger lady.

You're not a very good person.

So the founder is size 16 or not size 16? Based on your previous post suggesting all your colleagues are the wrong size to wear scrunch leggings.
everyone says they look like a big sphincter from behind so that’s probably what he meant.

CameForAVacationStayedForTheRevolution · 04/10/2025 10:38

So OP isn’t happy with an unprofessional comment about her clothing/appearance and then makes an unprofessional comment herself regarding whether she thinks her colleagues are slim enough to wear a certain outfit.

Pot calling kettle.

I also suspect that the OP has previously made bitchy comments on her colleagues clothes choices. I can almost hear her saying ‘I wouldn’t have chosen those leggings if my arse was as big as hers!’.

We do judge people by their appearance, I’m judging the OP to be an attention seeking arse-hole. Quite literally.

hohummm1 · 04/10/2025 10:58

Goodness, it's almost like everything about the OP's posts are to create the maximum reaction of outrage in both directions...

Interesting, OP, that you recall that you were the only person wearing leggings. I guess you spent quite some time noting what the sea of 'larger lady' colleagues were wearing at this 'forward thinking, ran by strong women' PR firm?

This is particularly funny, because in my experience with PR firms (I haven't worked at one but have worked with several), staff tends to be pretty well turned out.

Well in a work situation you absolutely can, and if you are the employer, should control this.

Colleague shouldn't have said it and "scrunch bum" leggings aren't office wear.
