The police and others have called out in the hope that there will be no pro Palestine marches tomorrow. They are stretched and say it will divert resources from trying to protect the Jewish people following the terrorist attack yesterday.

I agree. No march tomorrow AIBU?

Why are people too thick to not see how conflating ISRAEL with JEWS is in itself anti-semitic? Zionism is a political movement.

You can care about every single jew out there and be against zionism and wish for a free palestine??

Crikey, think half of Mumsnet would pass out to realise that the group I attend the rallies with are themselves, jewish.

Genuine question. This account mentioned pro Palestine protesters made hissing sounds to mimic the sound of a gas chamber

There are 2 women who were on marches convicted of gloryfing the Hamas attacks by waving banners fetishizing the paragliders used on the 7th October attacks

There's a lot of people on these marches mentioning their friends are Jewish, or are themselves Jewish, courtesy of a great-grandfather etc. have you or your Jewish friends seen similar behaviour to that reported here? What's the immediate response to this: to apologise for their presumed Zionist relatives and explain how horrific the Nakba was, or to challenge this? Or, as I suspect will be the response, to deny this happens?

We have indeed been told that these protests are full of terrorists but my belief is that the government are not telling the truth about this. They have backed themselves into a corner with the proscription of Palestine Action and making the police waste their time arresting grandmothers.

It would seem that way wouldn't it? Terrorists can you stay home tomorrow so we can focus our attention on terrorists. It makes no sense unless you don't actually believe the people you are asking to stay home are in fact terrorists.

All those people who claim that attending those marches is an expression of their freedom of speech…

What would happen if you were to walk the streets demonstrating against black people?

Or Muslims?

Or is it only Jewish people that are fair game?

The antisemitism is honestly disgusting and it’s a huge problem in my home country and we’re not allowed to say which quarters it’s coming from.

Do you have a decent grasp of basic facts. That marches are against ZIONISM not against JEWS.

You understand stopping the KKK wasnt the same as banning christianity?

And yes, Zionism is as loosely linked to Judaism as that

Justanordinarywoman · 03/10/2025 22:49

I marched on November 11th 2023 and Suella Braverman described us as a hate march. My only regret is I clearly didn’t march hard enough back then. But for the hundreds of thousands now murdered in Gaza by a genocidal settler colonial machine. I will never renounce humanity for the tricks of the Zionists. And by the way, as far as I see it, some of the most wonderful activists for Palestine are Jewish and I don’t think that is coincidental. They know that the agenda to conflate Zionism / Israel with Judaism is driven by deeply sinister forces.

You get idiots at every march. My own Dad was attacked during the EDL march a few Saturdays ago.

Of course the hissing was a horrible thing to do. You get those who twist the narrative of every movement. Like how we have racists slurs spray painted in our local park next to the England flag, when the raise the flags movement wasnt about that. People hijack all kinda things. That doesnt change what the intent of majority is, or that the marches were organised for or lessen the cause

DaringlyDizzy · 03/10/2025 22:28

How is marching for a free Palestine not showing compassion for the jewish community?

The thing stopping a free Palestine is Hamas, led by billionaires, fat on the aid supplied for the population, they use as human shields.

SharonEllis · 03/10/2025 22:52

Justanordinarywoman · 03/10/2025 22:31

What violent organisation? The British government sure is violent, I’m Irish. We lived 800 years under British oppression. Without even mentioning the Israeli army and their collaborators, who shoot starving children in the head queuing for food. I’ve seen the testimonies.

Palestine Action a proscribed organisation. Did you not know that is what the march is for?

No one is marching against Jews, or the Jewish faith (well, a few bad eggs). They're marching against the murder of tens of thousands of innocent people with the aim of wiping out the existence of the Palestinian people. Which is called genocide. You can call it antisemitic and put a bow on it if you like, but it doesn't mean it is.

People will perform all sorts of mental gymnastics and contort themselves into pretzels to accuse their antisemitism.

Because that’s what it is.

if you have an ounce of common decency you don’t attend any marches tomorrow.

But I guess there’s a lot of morally bankrupt people in this country.

Shame on them.

But these protests and the outcry isn't about the religion, it's about the state of Israel. The state of Israel who have murdered tens if not hundreds of thousands of civilians as the numbers cant be quantified since people are left buried under the rubble of buildings. Conflating the two is very very wrong and misinformed

Wait I think you’re misunderstanding. It’s not against Jewish people it’s against the Israeli governments ongoing genocide. Absolutely not the same thing, hence a large swathe of Jewish people attending the marches

You didn’t specify. There’s understandably a lot of protests happening for Palestine right now, especially with the flotilla crews being captured. Defend Our Juries are not marching, it’s a static act of civil disobedience. If that is what is being referred to in the thread title it’s misleading and factually incorrect.

The EDL was disbanded several years ago - not sure how your own dad could be attacked a few Saturdays ago by something that hasn't existed for years

Noodledog · 03/10/2025 22:56

Of course there will be marches. There were marches right after the October 7th massacre, before Israel had even responded in any way. Why would there be any respect for the victims in Manchester?

As for the "pro Palestinians" in this country, I'm not convinced that many actually care about the lives of ordinary Palestinians. If they did, there would be vocal support for the proposed peace plan. And there is none that I can see.

Whatamidoinhere · 03/10/2025 21:48

The protests are not “frightening”! And I fear you’re victim blaming now. If you were stuck under daily torment of bombs and hunger, surely the least you’d need is someone to speak out for your rights. Marches ask for a cease fire so children stop being coldly murdered every single day. There’s no “fright” in asking for basic rights.

YOU don’t find them frightening. Why do we Insist on imposing our views and opinions on others. We know we find that to be true. People find the marches frightening and are scared when people are balling at them weekend after weekend. Some cities feel like a no go area.

I know that’s an opinion that only some will share but surely your not that without empathy that you can see if I picked something fundamental to your being and then shouted at you about it weekend after weekend you might get a bit upset?

SharonEllis · 03/10/2025 22:58

Everyone is talking about a march tomorrow, worth pointing out that the planned action tomorrow is a vigil where people will be quietly sitting holding cardboard signs.

It is in suppprt of Palestine Action, a proscribed organisation.

That would be because:

  1. When Hamas have agreed the terms have changed
  2. The peace plans basically screw the palestinans over again. Its a case of when now that we have killed and tortured and broken you, agree to give up most of your rights and freedoms and we will stop. Hardly fair
