To ask what’s that lovely washing powder you all use?!

Lol, very random I know but I’ve realised a lot of the time if I’ve bought clothes off Vinted, they all smell of the same, lovely smelling washing powder.

We use Fairy non bio all the time which really doesn’t smell of much and there’s never a smell on the clothes after they’re dry.

Bought a bundle off Vinted which I’ve just collected and it all smells of that same lovely washing powder. It’s very popular as I smell it a lot.

Soooo, does anyone know which one I mean? It’s definitely not fairy non bio that’s for sure!

You've presumably just got used to the smell of yours.

All my secondhand clothes purchases reek of fabric conditioner so if you're getting nice clean washing smells I'm jealous!

I use persil bio for whites and pet bedding (separate washes...) and persil non bio for the rest.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 28/09/2025 11:04

I use the bio powder from Lidl. Cleans well and has a light smell of old fashioned soapyness. I really don't like a strong perfume on my laundry.
Following though, want to know what everyone else uses.

slightlyoverbaked · 28/09/2025 11:05

Ask the seller!

MusicalCarbuncle · 28/09/2025 11:05

Ariel capsules have a very appealing smell. To me anyway.

DramaLlamacchiato · 28/09/2025 11:06

It’s probably that unstoppables shit

Onefortheroad25 · 28/09/2025 11:09

You’ll probably get blasted on here for wanting your clothes to smell nice!
If you do find out though I’d love to know. No matter what I buy my clothes still smell meh.
It’s really weird though because ds21’s friend left clothes here, a hoody or something and I could smell something lovely in the room. It was the hoody. Got ds to ask him what his mum uses and he sent a pic of Ariel liquid and blue comfort. I ran out and bought them and our stuff didn’t smell the same 😢
Why is that?
I don’t like strong floral smells and I hate lavender. I just want them to smell lovely. Like other peoples clothes!

Laffydaffy · 28/09/2025 11:10

I used to love the smell of other people's washing because I only used scent-free (kid's excema) until I recently read some studies linking articial scents to endocrine disruption. And then I realised that artifical scents are in so many things. Deodorant, lip-balms, skin creams, make-up etc.

Swiftie1878 · 28/09/2025 11:11

Persil Bio. Smells great.

Sahara123 · 28/09/2025 11:11

Can’t stand strong smelling washing products, I want my stuff to smell of me and my perfume! I remember a holiday place where they’d used something so strong I couldn’t sleep for the first couple of days. I use Smol unscented stuff. I just want my washing clean. !

OverlyFragrant · 28/09/2025 11:13

Ariel smells lovely to me. I recognise it on strangers clothing.

As does Ecover bio tab which is my detergent of choice.

Evenstar · 28/09/2025 11:13

I use the Spanish Asevi Marseille Soap liquid from Home Bargains with Comfort Pure (or supermarket equivalent). It smells of old fashioned bar soap, just clean and light.

I used to use the supermarket own powder which was similar to Surf Tropical with the Pure conditioner and people often complimented that.

Shineonyoucrazy · 28/09/2025 11:14

People use scent boosters to make laundry smell.

aold · 28/09/2025 11:14

persil bio is the best I’ve found, leaves clothes smelling lovely

Persil Bio. Smells great.

Yes, it's my favourite.

Laiste · 28/09/2025 11:17

I love to be able to smell the clean washing smell but won't use the extra smelly add ins like unstoppables and that clear stuff.

I often get complimented on the smell of my stuff and i use fairy pods and comfort - either the blue or yellow ... nothing fancy. But! I do wash our clothes a lot IYKWIM? Rarely wear anything twice before washing again.

Laiste · 28/09/2025 11:18

Oh and i bung in a scoop of the Tesco version of Vanish with the white wash every time.

Ginmonkeyagain · 28/09/2025 11:18

I use Wilton cedarwood liquid and dry outside. Makes clothes smell fresh but it is not overpowering. I hate scent boostera. I couldn't sleep in an air bnb recently as the bed linen had been washed in something that smelled overpoweringly of artifical tropical flowers - it was horrible. I had to take off the pillow case and lay a towel over it.

ChubbyPuffling · 28/09/2025 11:37

Vinted? Probably febreeze spray. DD sells off clothes that she hasn't worn for a couple of months- so they've been washed, ironed and hung in the spare room and smell of nothing/dust. She'll febreeze them before posting.

Londontown12 · 28/09/2025 11:38

I completely agree. The clothes I have bought on Vinted reek of too much fabric conditioner - it often takes at least three washes for the smell to dissapate. It's god awful and smells cheap and tacky.

FrothyCothy · 28/09/2025 11:41

We’ve always used supermarket own brand but recently switched to Ariel and found it has a lovely lasting smell. But also switched to a heat pump dryer which am basically using for everything so not sure if that is somehow preserving the scent!

Did you request a refund, write a negative Tripadvisor review and insist on being put up in a hotel which only uses natural products in their laundry process?

HennieGirl · 28/09/2025 11:41

I use the persil 3 in 1 pods, and Dr Beckmann fabric conditioner sheets. I love the smell of fresh laundry and these have a lovely fresh smell.

I sometimes use lenor too as I love the small of fresh laundry.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 28/09/2025 12:27

I recently asked my neighbour what laundry products she was using, as her husband smelt magnificent, even at a distance! 😂

It turned out to be Comfort Heaven Scent.

Applepe · 28/09/2025 12:33

I think that bio washing powder / liquid always has a stronger smell that lasts longer than non-bio, but I can’t use bio because it makes me itch!
