Would love to hear from any MNetters across the pond as to the reality of the situation there, is it a "war zone" and how you feel about the situation.

A person who will lie about the most basic human truth - men are not women, cannot be women, do not turn into women and do not belong in women's single sex places - cannot be trusted not to lie about anything else at all.

Of course the religion of transology has drastically affected hundreds of thousands of women and girls in the west who have been assaulted in women's prisons by men who should not have been there, had their trophies and sporting accomplishments and sporting careers stolen from them by men, punched in the face by a boxer who pretended to be a woman, been forced to put up with the worst of men (only predatory men try to barge into sex segregated spaces for women) in toilets, changing rooms and more, have had to have men groping and assaulting them during medical exams.

Women have been arrested (in Spain recently and also in Australia) for saying men are not women and little girls in many schools are refusing to drink water because they are being forced to share toilets with boys and are afraid to do so.

As you know, all of these things have happened and continue to happen.

But although pretending men can become women has indeed caused deep distress and physical harm to countless women and girls - the main problem is that a person who will lie about this basic reality cannot ever be trusted to tell the truth about anything.

And in the rare case that a person is so deranged they actually believe that men magically become women when they say so, that person is - of course - far too unstable to be trusted.

Edited

Whereas a man who knows what a woman is when he is raping her, and who boasts about deliberately walking in on teenage girls who are changing (no need to pretend to be a woman, just be a billionaire and you can do what you like) is absolutely fine, is he?

Residents of Portland, meanwhile, are delighted and grateful for the attempt to restore law and order.

"Portland, Ore. — A resident living near the ICE facility praises President Trump for deploying the military/federal agents to quash Antifa: "I am so happy that President Trump is deploying the National Guard. We have been asking for help for months."

If your response is nOoOoOoOoOoO X is for nAzIiIsIsIssssss! you're as dumb as a bag of hammers.

X has approximately 586 million monthly active users. It is going nowhere and is still the most used site for news - as it has been for years.

So one woman - one - thinks that this is a good idea? The plural of "anecdote" may not be "data" but the singular form is even less so. Far more people in Portland oppose this than support it.

Everyone I've spoken to today has been just shocked to hear the President describe their home as "war-ravaged"

And you think the super traditional patriarchal model so praised by the Christian nationalist ultra right doesn't force women to do stuff for men that they're not comfortable with? That it's not built on coercion?

Why pretend that some men being sexists is the same as a government that denies reality and writes into law anti women, anti child safeguarding, and anti reality laws - which is exactly what the Dems were doing and intended to keep doing.

Why pretend that everyone who admits openly the simple uncontroversial fact that men are not women and never have been and that women and girls need sex based rights is "ultra far right" or, indeed, ultra anything.

Everyone knows men are not women and the vast, vast majority never wanted to pretend otherwise.

Soontobe60 · 29/09/2025 10:00

Compared to the whole of the USA, crime stats in Portland are very high. I guess that could be interpreted in any number of ways though. I believe they have a huge problem with Antifa, plus high drugs problems.

I'm afraid those two things don't even live in the same universe. The 'horrors' that you decry from the Dems will seem so quaint when women lose all their rights. And it's happening fast.
Read Tia Levings's A Well Trained Wife for some insight into what that lifestyle actually entails and tell me that's not worse - because safeguarding of women and children has NO place AT ALL in that patriarchal world. Do you fancy being your husband's property? Not saying that the Dems were perfect, of course not, but we've moved on SO FAR from those considerations that now it's an absolute matter of survival. Anyone today who continues to support MAGA and its Project 2025 dystopia is complicit in our daughters being abused going forward. I am saying 'we' and 'our' because those tentacles are trying to reach us in the UK too.

And by the way, any cancellation or de-platforming that happened in the pre-Trump years were not government mandated. What we see now in the US is an attempt by the ruling government to impose a cultural agenda. That is also a major difference to take into account. For all their flaws, Dems did not do that. Corporations did. And corporations (especially media corporations) are always inherently cowards - they shift whichever way the wind blows. Back then, they thought they had to be woker than woke. But now, they are being bullied by the administration.

"The ICE facility in Portland has been subject to months of dangerously chaotic protests that have put residents and federal agents in harm’s way. The governor’s assertion that there is no national security threat and the mayor’s assertion that everything is fine is tone-deaf. It’s shameful that state and local leaders have allowed violent mobs and domestic terrorists to assault federal law enforcement, destroy property, and interfere with those seeking immigration services from obtaining assistance and case management. We need order, we need to restore safety, and Oregon’s local leaders have failed to provide it."

Stop trying to derail. Men being sexist is not the same as the democrats writing into law that women as a sex class do not exist.

That's what they did. That's why they were booted - that and open borders. Much as that enrages you, that's the truth.

One of my posts was quotations and posts from Portland residents about Portland residents who are over the moon that their president is restoring order in Portland.

And the other came about from my earlier direct response to a liar who tried to pretend that pretending men are women and thereby proving yourself to be an ajbect liar or demented and unstable is not one of the largest reasons the Dems were booted. And yet, it is.

Stop derailing.

Portland comes in at number 57 for violent crime. When will troops be invading Alabama or Ohio, states with many cities higher on the list?

Oh wait, he doesn‘t actually care about crime. This is just about intimidating the people who voted against him.

StandFirm · 29/09/2025 11:09

Yes, homelessness and fentanyl addictions have been the biggest issues in Portland in recent years.
The Antifa thing is because Trump's still angry with the pro BLM movement there years ago.

If Trump is so beloved then why is his approval rating below the waves? The poorest ratings of any president on record at 250 days in. Beating his own previous low.

Once again (for the hard of thinking): the plural of "anecdote" is not "data".

Anyone who actually lives in Portland knows that until Trump started threatening the city, protests were few, and far between. Generally composed of a man in a chicken suit. The only thugs in masks were ICE. People who live in suburban or rural isolation on the other hand - whose only knowledge of the city is the Fox rolling broadcasts that they invariably leave on - think that it's some kind of war zone. Mostly based on five-year old footage of Minneapolis amd some bad Photoshopping.

Trump being a rapist is not merely "men being sexist". I'm not sure what "GOP" actually stands for but one could be forgiven for thinking that it means "Gathering Of Paedophiles", given the long list of convicted sex criminals in the party. Another one was found guilty just last week.

Meanwhile women are bleeding to death because of Trump and the Republicans.

This is on you. The Republicans are no friends of women. They rape them. Every person who voted for them supported these deaths.

While people are arguing over who gets to wear a dress, women's rights have been rolled back in reproductive health, safety, and legal protections.

Why does every single thread on Mumsnet have to be derailed by having the trans stuff shoehorned in? I honestly can't tell if there are thousands of posters or like 20 rabid ones who name change.

I'm thinking of painting my kitchen yellow. It's grey right now but I'm tired of it.
Hey, OP, do you not realise there are MEN in DRESSES out there!!!!?????

Portland is safe. It's made up bullshit that they now seem to be backing off from.

@mathanxiety One of my kids is at U of C and we visited recently. Stayed at the Langham in River North, where I gather ICE is now hanging out semi-permanently. Never occurred to me for a minute to feel unsafe.

I live in London.

Not really sure what 'groups' you're referring to as life seems pretty normal to me? Seems hard to keep things 'under wraps', what with like 9 million of us living here, not to mention the people who commute in and out for work, plus media and social media.

Agree. No big mystery here. 🤷‍♀️All normal and ok. 👍

Once again, using one biased poll doesn't reflect the fact that Trump was voted in to do precisely what he is doing, and Americans as a whole are absolutely delighted about that. I guess we'll see how reliable that poll is when the vice president stands for presidency in a few years.

Americans wanted this, Americans are happy he is restoring order to Portland.
