Would love to hear from any MNetters across the pond as to the reality of the situation there, is it a "war zone" and how you feel about the situation.

Google it or watch GB news. YouTube will be able to pull up some news channels for you. I'm not referring to Lucy Connolly either, I actually think what she posted was awful. Though I do think her sentence was way to harsh.

‘Watch GB News’

Fuck. No Thanks

Again, you just show how uneducated you are on everything. Sad, lol.

Has anyone else noticed that posters who end posts with lol or tbh tend to not be the smartest/most educated posters in the world?

@Greenmouldycheese You lost me at gbnews

GB News is a right wing propaganda outlet - it’s not news

MaggieBsBoat · 28/09/2025 09:56

He is absolutely terrified of the Epstein files. He’ll do anything to prevent the truth coming out. This is what killed Charlie Kirk, demanding that they are released.

lunar1 · 28/09/2025 09:58

At what point do people realise he’s declared civil war?

PermanentTemporary · 28/09/2025 10:13

It doesn’t seem possible for me to link to stuff easily, but the BBC report on this is good I think. Trump appears to have written another unconstitutional executive order as a pantomime performance of attacking a city that elects Democrats.

[awaits comments from various bots and Reformish posters scoffing at the idea of reading real journalism and promoting the defunding of the BBC, because eliminating the BBC would make us more dependent on shite like GB ‘News’ and unmediated YouTubers to try and understand what is happening]

I don’t think ‘releasing the Epstein Files’ is going to achieve much. Like the impeachment in his first term. Of course Trump sucked up to Epstein - he was a corrupt, well-connected billionaire. Trump likes money, is a social climber and has no morals. Cf Mandelson. I don’t think Trump is what I would regard as a paedophile, and I think he has a good sense of self protection and would avoid fucking girls where there could be legal pushback. I have no idea why people vote for him, he’s authoritarian, disgusting and incompetent in every way, but I don’t think the stunning revelation that he hung out with horrible people 20 years ago is going to change that.

Can we please not refer to humans as ‘illegals’ as a noun? It’s dehumanising in the extreme.

I agree.

And it's one of those tropes that says far more about the person using it than about the people they're using it about.

I wouldn't pollute my brain by watching that shite.

Have you a more reliable and less biased source that confirms the statement in your previous post?

He threatened Chicago with this, got significant pushback from the state governor and backed down.
He is using this as a distraction tactic, particularly in relation to releasing the Epstein files, something that the majority of his own supporters would like him to do.

Whatever files come out are never going to be true. I’m not sure why anyone would be thinking they’re are getting the truth now. I expect they will deceptive tactics if it ever did annd make out Trump is the hero. That’s where we are at with all this

I'm in general agreement with you on the Epstein files, but... they are going to bizarrely enormous length to not release them, which does make me wonder. I mean, the base is going to forgive him no matter what - 15 year old? Almost legal, who cares.

Plus, those surely offer an opportunity to drag some prominent Dems into the conversation, which he would relish. So I am puzzled.

It's pretty easy to Google or check YouTube for news channels. There's loads of sources readily available. I'm not doing it for you. I won't lose sleep over you being uneducated.

You can’t actually substantiate your claims at all can you.

PermanentTemporary · 28/09/2025 11:13

Yes, I suppose even though we all knew that Sarah Ferguson would do literally anything for money, seeing it in black and white still has an impact. Same for the orange one.

Eyesopenwideawake · 28/09/2025 11:18

@EmeraldRoulette Interesting that you mention Antifa a couple of times. Can I ask for your understanding of what it is please?

lljkk · 28/09/2025 11:45

Antifa isn't an identifiable group membership by any objective standard. It's not a movement or an organisation or a collaboration. It has no membership list, no trademark, nothing. It's a nice target idea (no more than an idea) because it's more like a flavour and style, which means entirely subjective who is or isn't Antifa. Trumpism can literally identify anyone as far left radical loony (or antifa) because there is no criteria to say someone or someone isn't antifa / far left thug.

James Comey was a well-known card-carrying Republican. Trumpism now labels Comey as "always was a" far left radical. You can't make shit like this up.

My understanding is disparate groups out to cause trouble

I think Extinction rebellion and just stop oil would probably be similar.

local knowledge is quite a thing. There are things kept under wraps surprisingly easily. So there are other groups I could name after leaving London, but I just have to keep reminding myself that I've left and I don't have to deal with this anymore.

It's generally very very alarming how many people there are out there for whom the ultimate prize is to disrupt the lives of ordinary people

I wonder if that's why you hear people who are massively against it and people who are hugely relieved about the National Guard being on the street.

And in the end, we never know who's behind any of these organisations.

I must drop out of politics again. I've been ignoring it for a few years - it's exhausting. And repetitive. And it's never going to change is it.

Can someone press the button already?

EmeraldRoulette · 28/09/2025 14:51

@DuncinToffee

Only have one in Washington who told me that she and her neighbours were quite pleased by it. But she also told me a whole bunch of stuff about Washington having different rules?

I haven't got the faintest idea what's going on and I don't want to judge by headlines.

I also know two people in California, but I don't bring this stuff up unless they do.

I cannot form an impression about the entire United States of America from knowing a few people

My own feeling is that life would be a lot better if people just said that "I don't know" because the truth is, how can we know?!!

Some of the things I see on here puzzle me because if there was actually a military takeover happening in America, or Civil War, I don't imagine we'd be allowed to travel there.

can I conclude that the Internet has driven everybody mad? That seems like the only safe assumption at this point.

I know a couple of people who are obsessed with news from the US. They were horrified when I said I was considering maybe visiting again soon. They seem to think I'll get snatched off the street and sent to a weird detention camp.

I don't think I am actually going to visit, I haven't been for a few years and I think I'd rather keep my memories as they are.

I live in London.

Not really sure what 'groups' you're referring to as life seems pretty normal to me? Seems hard to keep things 'under wraps', what with like 9 million of us living here, not to mention the people who commute in and out for work, plus media and social media.

They now live in a totalitarian and facist state, I’m confused why they’re not all rioting like fuck

Because rioting is exactly what he wants so he can put even more troops on the streets.

Over the past few weeks I've heard a few serious commentators say Trump's getting the US public used to the sight of troops on the city streets, so he can claim there is civil unrest/war and can legally cancel the Mid-term elections.

Nothing would surprise me as to what Trump gets up to next.

Interesting. Did you know that Antifa means "anti fascist"?

The Nazis were fascist, Mussolini was fascist, the KKK is fascist. Most people believe that opposing these groups was, and is, a good thing; otherwise the entire US military needs to be disbanded pronto (maybe that's what Pisshead Hegseth is up to next week?).

In a nutshell, anti-fascists are on the side of freedom from oppression and dictatorships.

It's generally very very alarming how many people there are out there for whom the ultimate prize is to disrupt the lives of ordinary people.

Yes, but Trump will be dead before too long, take comfort from that.
