Violet Affleck is clearly warning parents about the affect of Covid on children, so when will our children get finally get air filters in their schools/nurseries?

I genuinely can't believe that the government/department for education are able to continue to ignore the now overwhelming, crystal clear evidence that Covid harms children's health. Violet Affleck gave a powerful, well documented, speech at the UN this week laying it all out and the media response? Accuse her of 'health anxiety'!
Other countries are taking action on indoor air quality to protect children in learning environments (e.g. France, Belgium, Germany, Thailand, Australia).
Bridget Philipson herself was shouting about ventilation and air filters before the election.
But still, nothing!
The department for education also had THEIR buildings upgraded so they have great indoor air quality, as did the Houses of Parliament, as do many private schools, as do DAVOS when the world leaders meet.
ALL of our children deserve clean air and to be safe in the classrooms/nurseries.
Why are we so bad at protecting our kids? Repeated Covid infections are ruining their health. ONS said in 2024 that we had over 111,000 children with long covid in Scotland and England alone.
It is SO simple to achieve this. The fact that we are doing nothing is shameful. Open the windows, get air filters, use a CO2 monitor to monitor the air. THAT IS IT. Why is that hard?

This is not true. And is an insult to the thousands of children with long covid in the uk.

www.longcovidkids.org/statistics

I am not trying to insult anyone. It is well known, so much so that people have referred to it as innate immunity.

And yes sure not all. I should have said ‘Most’ kids.

As for long covid I don’t know much about it if I am honest. I am not sure science does yet either?

When I say ‘proper Covid’; I mean real risk of ICU and dieing from covid.

Sadly there have been some children who have dies of Covid. But it’s vanishingly small. More people have probably died from the Covid jab itself.

MrsLizzieDarcy · 27/09/2025 16:26

This young lady needs help with her very obvious OCD and health anxiety. And shame on her parents for encouraging her down this road where she's been so widely ridiculed.

I'm intrigued as to why the vaccination program is now solely focused on the over 75s when Covid is still such a huge threat to the entire population according to users on here Hmm

YelloDaisy · 27/09/2025 16:36

I just had my flu jab - I asked the nurse if she has it, she said yes but they aren't getting Covid jabs this year as it isn't considered serious enough to require a jab.

Noshowlomo · 27/09/2025 16:36

Violet Affleck is a privileged, out of touch child who has mental health issues, much like her sister, who is now a man I think?

IcedPurple · 27/09/2025 16:42

ThreePears · 27/09/2025 15:48

And does Violet Affleck know the location of the magic money tree?

Her father is allegedly worth hundreds of millions.

I suspect money is rather an abstract concept for Ms. Affleck. I suspect a lot of things are actually.

Feel better now?
There are serious long-term impacts of long covid on young people. There is loads of evidence of this. It is true that covid is here to stay and we're going to have to live with it, but the fact that this young woman had famous parents shouldn't mean that she isn't allowed to speak about it.
Yes, she has a platform because of her parents, but so what? Here we are, discussing the effects of covid. We probably wouldn't be talking about it if it had been mentioned by someone we weren't familiar with.
Well done her for using her fame to start conversations.

The biggest impact on young peoples MH and development is social media and smart phones

No one gives a toss about that.

Focus on what is really damaging our children.

I had a virus around 11 years ago, its left me with long term sinus problems. Its not called anything, its not even recognised as that. I dont have 'long virus' on my medical records. Thats what viruses do sometimes.

Itstheshowgirl · 27/09/2025 16:44

VA doesn’t do this cause any good because she comes across as having very serious mental health problems, add to that the lack of qualifications and I don’t see why anyone should listen to her.

Addressing the UN indeed! What money can buy you eh.

Both of my DC’s schools are literally falling down around them, I would rather the focus be on new schools than air filters especially since school is only where my DC spend a fraction of their time, they are at clubs (no air filters), friends houses (no air filters), grandparents (no air filters) as well as home obviously (shockingly still no air filters).

Add in soft plays, trampoline parks, theatres and other venues, restaurants, cafes, swimming pools and ice rinks and they are exposed to a lot of large crowds and unfiltered air so not sure what difference adding filters to one element of their lives will make.

Also to the pp claiming that all Government building have them - nonsense. The HoP maybe but your bog standard civil service office, no chance.

I agree, I really don’t understand that attitude that you can’t possibly open the windows in winter in the UK.
We open them all year round, hate stuffy rooms. They don’t need to remain open for long.

Same here, all year round.

SumUp · 27/09/2025 16:51

When so many state school buildings are badly in need of basic maintainance, the cost of the air handling and filtration in addition for every room in every school would be unaffordable.

It’s a shame that it’s going against all the research as well as the WHO recommendations.

I mean people get the flu jab for Somethimg that one catches maybe twice or 3 times in their life. And I’ve never met someone who die from the flu either. But 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
But they feel doing anything at all re Covid isn’t worth it because ‘it’s not dangerous’. Never mind the number of people who complains how hard it is to get over the cold/virus they just got. How awful they feel or that it’s taking them weeks to recover. Never mind all the other stuff going on atm - like people who complain about brain fog or how they can’t remember stuff or make mistakes all the time (which you never heard about in those numbers before. I mean you even have newspaper articles on how to help with brain fog. I hadn’t even heard of the word before Covid)

If people are happy to get more of all that ‘because it’s not dangerous’ so be it.

Im just going to ask
If it turns out, it’s resting a lot of issues, will you still expect support, the ‘oh poor you, That’s awful’ comments etc… Or will you accept you’ve taken a risk and misjudged. So tough?

After Covid I got HEPA filters for each room of our home . It’s really improved my dc lives

From where and how much did they cost if you don't mind sharing?

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 27/09/2025 16:53

I can kind of see the reasoning in her wearing a mask but why is she wearing safety glasses? (Wait for picture)

Using PPE gives an illusion of protection / control but does really hint that her health anxiety is out of control. Being the child of incredibly famous parents seems to be really harmful.

Because Covid can enters through the eyes.

I think this is akin when the Victorians built sewers as a public health measure. Water is purified, so is l milk why shouldn’t air be to protect everyone’s health?

There will come a point when the damage inflicted by LC is more expensive than installing air filters. Then it will change.

pip has increased dramatically. One of the reasons is LC

She should have given her 'address' by video link if she's that paranoid.

Better yet, she should have not given it at all.

Are you able to expand on this? It genuinely isn't goady as I do know people who seem to have some long term effects. I'm just interested in the specifics.

Exactly!
Is she a professor of epidemiology? A leading scientist in the field?? Has her extensive research been peer-reviewed??

Exactly this! Some clever scientists wanted Violet to speak the truth that she’s advocated so consistently for. Aged 19 and doing that is amazing. I was nowhere near able to do anything like that at 19.

If you were interested you’d be reading all the peer reviewed studies and write ups in the press. This information is freely available.

Thats what viruses do sometimes.

This is bang on. Viruses do do things, and not necessarily the same things as other viruses. That's why I'm genuinely interested in what people feel the long term effects are.

It's increasingly well-known that things like Lymes and EBV can have long term effects.

I understand people wanting to be dismissive because at some point we need to take a deep breath and accept we can't avoid everything. BUT that is also quite harsh on those who are past that point and suffering.
