Sick of the lie 'It's just illegal immigrants people don't like.'

Slightyamusedandsilly · 26/09/2025 22:08

This is just not true.

Reform, the flag flyers and protesters are racists. All of this 'It's just the illegals we want gone.' is a lie to excuse their racism.

I think you're missing the point that people do understand you, and understand that your voice is not lesser and your contribution is as good as anyone else's, and that is why they don't want reform to get in, and that is why they think changing the minds of the people who are in danger of voting reform is so important.

And then we get back to how you change minds, what might work and what won't.

Thankyou for explaining!

What would it actually achieve if people did say they were racist .

We would know where we are.

Toastandbutterand · 27/09/2025 04:26

You see, I had a very long public chat on Facebook today about it with a guy who thought immigrants should be deported. All of them.

He deleted the thread, and a mutual friend messaged me to say he had to delete it because he's an FA referee (I assume this is football) and he couldn't leave it up as he might be sacked for racism.

This kind of cemented my idea that people are racist or stupid or making money.

He was quoting statistics that are simply not true.

But he must have known that to have then deleted them.

So the more peywr call out for their misinformation, the more that misinformation is deleted, or not repeated, which means less people that are susceptible to it see it,

Yes?

Because i have been silent and while I have been silent it has gotten worse. So that doesn't help.

The fact is that there are countries such as Poland where you can have a healthy conversation about immigration and border control without being called a racist, Where the government listens to its citizens concerns.
It is also a fact that you can’t do it here in a safe way without being branded as a racist and your arguments being shot down.
When you try to shut people down they get angry and we are now seeing the consequences. Ignoring the nation’s concerns is not a good strategy and it’s exactly the reason why Farage might become the next PM.
I have citizenship of both countries so I know that it is safe to express concerns in Poland about keeping borders secure. It is absolutely not safe to do it here without fearing for losing your job or worse.
I am a migrant who experienced some mild hostility when I arrived but I did understand where the concerns came from. Husband is BAME and experiences hostility occasionally, yet even we are concerned about the levels of current immigration. Neither of us saw any issue with the flags either.
Allow healthy debate and stop calling people names for feeling concerned.

Ablushingcrow · 27/09/2025 04:31

The constant use of the word racist is thrown about so much, it's becoming meaningless. Once upon a time it was shameful to be called racist (as it should be) but people are starting to not care anymore.

It's just becoming another buzzword to yell at people... Nazi, fascist, bigot, transphobic. It's becoming boring and silly.

I think that's because they don't carry as much shame, not because people are less of those things.

It's not just illegal immigrants it's also people who are here legally who make zero effort to learn the language, zero effort to integrate, don't respect our laws, land or culture, who wish to change the UK and introduce their own laws.
People are fed up with this and have every right to be.

Sweetbeansandmochi · 27/09/2025 05:02

Maybe many in the south (where I live) live in predominantly the higher educated and tax band paying families, so we haven’t seen the impact of large scale changes to communities. And to dismiss everyone as Bigots is not correct. Match the intention - respectful disagreement shouldn’t be met with name calling.

And so, it’s possible - very ordinary people don’t like their city being treated in a very different cultural way. To question or feel it’s unfair that a mosque is allowed to build higher than the skyline, to suspect it was because of a donation rather than fair process, is going to cause upset. To not enjoy seeing parts of a city or town filled with rubbish and see with their eyes, the link between the attitude and ethnicity.

It is also unacceptable to place the huge wealth inequality/cost of living on people who it has nothing to do with.

We have huge systemic inequality built into health and education to name two. This is invisible to most people happening behind the scenes but has far more impact on the cost of living and why you can’t get a GP appointment or why your child has had three maths teachers for their GCSEs and no science teacher at all.

Unless we have leaders who will speak up and hold space for alternative points of view against the beast that is the ‘polarized view drives engagement’ - we are going to be stuck in political and cultural ping pong.

I’m concerned about immigration. I’m not racist, I’m part of a happy multicultural family.

Our country is far too small to keep allowing net 900,000 immigration every year. I value green spaces, food security, a lower flood risk, wildlife, clean air. I don’t want the country ultimately becoming a large city state with the odd park where gardens are for the rich, and I don’t think we are obliged to do so in order to accommodate people from other countries who feel it is their right to live here. We need farmland, importing more and more produce is hideous for the environment and leaves us vulnerable. Our roads and infrastructure are barely coping as it is, and we’ve killed off hundreds of species of native wildlife due to pollution and a lack of habitat.

It’s about so much more than politics and skin colour. In fact those things barely register with me.

From this post you don't sound at all racist and like someone I could have a sensible debate with.
According to the Adam Smith Institute, the UK population is projected to grow by almost 5m over the next decade, with an increase of 7.3% expected between 2022 and 2032. This probably horrifies you, given what you've posted. However, deaths are set to rise due to us "Boomers" dying off, leading to a projected 17,000 more deaths than births over the same 10-year period (in fact, we've been recording more deaths than births every year since 2015 and our birth rate has plummeted to an average of just 1.46 children per woman which will not sustain the UK population as we need an average replacement rate of at least 2.1). This suggests that without migration our population will begin to shrink in the coming decades. Inbound migration tends to increase the working-age population, which is what we need - more tax payers to pay for public services. So, regardless of what people think about net migration, it looks like this is all that's currently available to us, at least in the short term, to help the UK avert population decline and the ultimate failure of our economy.
It would also help if the 1million 18-22 year olds who are currently not in employment, education or training (NEET) were persuaded into doing something productive, but the point is we need immigration whether we like it or not.

I agree with this, we just don’t have the space and that does impact our food security, cost of housing, wildlife etc.

And it’s not that we can afford to be generous because we’re a rich country, we actually have loads of debt.

It doesn’t make sense to me that other countries with far more space per person have much tighter immigration than we do.

Our rapidly increasing population is part of it as you well know, a population that is ageing fast, seemingly insurmountable economic problems, technology that has meant less & less jobs since the 80s, vastly over-priced housing and lack of affordable & decent rental properties, an NHS that seems to be doing everything on the cheap as it’s so overstretched & underfunded, schools struggling with kids who seem to be incapable of good behaviour or are thrown in the deep end on arrival as they speak little or no English and all other things that prevent kids from learning, continuing de-industrialisation, ineffective/corrupt/lying politicians are part of it, too. The list is endless but ultimately it comes down to money, and we don’t have enough. Employers want to pay rock bottom wages so we need UC to top these up people can afford to live a decent life. For many people, particularly in deprived areas, they see mass immigration as the straw that broke the camel’s back.

And then they are looked down on by people like you.

We have enough. Money, land, space. We have enough, what we don’t have is a ruling elite who are willing to share resources fairly. You neee to start looking up, not down.

No, they are not all like that. A lot come here and embrace the UK and enjoy a happier, safer place to live and bring a lot to communities as well as the country.
Others come and make zero effort to integrate, dislike our culture, have no respect/understanding of our laws, and have no respect for our land or wildlife. It's those I have the issue with.
Come here and embrace the UK, build a good life and be happy, don't come here, and be disrespectful and try and turn the UK into a Country they have left because they weren't happy there it makes absolutely no sense.

Completely agree.

The thing I don’t get about racists is their unwillingness to own it - they all deny being racist. They don’t even have the balls to admit it.

100%

we’ve all KNOWN it’s not ok to be racist for decades now, there’s the campaigns at football and sporting events, the slogans, report any antisocial behaviour systems in place, taking the knee etc etc but STILL racists are being raised.

in some ways we are making more inroads to stopping discrimination against women than we are racism. Sure toxic masculinity is still a threat, and we have to keep pushing the agenda for equality, but blaming others for your own worries just because they’re from somewhere else is just stupid.

all these protests at the hotels where these asylum seekers are being held? Why? What are they going to do about their situation?

the problem needs to be stopped IN EUROPE, before it gets to our channel.

in Brexit times, it was shown that those areas with high levels of multicultural diversity voted REMAIN, those with low diversity were told that all the woes of their lives were caused by forriners and they voted LEAVE

we all know that somehow this decision has cost our economy greatly.

and it’s still the fault of “others”

Farage/the Mail/GB News and all the others whipping the ignorant or intellectually lazy into a frenzy here are killing our nation. Putin is LOVING this. The micro-dicked napoleon can’t rise or grow so he seeks to destroy everything around him so that he looks better.

This is a tiresome way to think though.

Why won’t the transphobe bigots just own it?

Why won’t the misogynist homophobes just own it?

Why won’t the islamofascist antisemites just own it?

Why be won’t the islamophobic imperialists just own it?

Once you see disagreement with your deeply held positions as sufficient evidence of bad intent, and others not admitting it as proof of duplicity, you stop being able to see anything at all.

Well I'm Irish, not in the UK and so I don't think anyone has suggested anything about migrants eating swans, but either way I only listen to valid, common sense arguments.

As for saying if you support racist idiots you get treated like one...do you realise that by treating people as racist or whatever it is you're actually more likely to encourage them to eventually have more extremist views even though their views were moderate before?

You're actually actively creating racism when it wasn't there before when you treat people that way.

There was an article on the swan and carp eating by the Spectator, looking at whether this was true. Apparently there was a spate of that sort of thing about 10 years or so ago when it wasn't deemed racist to publish the reports of it. Since then it's obviously seen as a racist slur against immigrants so while it presumambly still goes on, it's not reported. It also includes ducks.

The solution to finding out whether the accusations on this thread as to whether most people are racist or not (on the basis polls say most people are concerned about immigration) is having the proper figures and facts. Which thd government won't currently provide.

And then once we all know we can judge whether immigration is a positive economically for the UK or a negative for the UK. That takes emotion and "racism" out of it.

And if it's bad economically then we stop importing workers we don't need. Immigrants can come here for love or necessity or if they are a net economic positive or if their skills are needed despite their low wage. That is fair on the host country in which the guests have been invited. I say that as a child of an immigrant who respected this country and didn't make any demands or angrily call their hosts "racists".

I think the poster meant that we have enough, as a country. It isn't being provided fairly to the citizens, no, but that's not because of immigration.
