Sick of the lie 'It's just illegal immigrants people don't like.'

This is just not true.

Reform, the flag flyers and protesters are racists. All of this 'It's just the illegals we want gone.' is a lie to excuse their racism.

I think the poster meant that we have enough, as a country. It isn't being provided fairly to the citizens, no, but that's not because of immigration.

An awful lot of money is being spent on people who aren't citizens. Which is due to immigration and the immigrants that aren't supporting themselves or their own families. And we have a worsening economic situation which will mean even less money. Taxpayers aren't here to provide welfare to anyone that decides to come here. That's unfair on taxpayers.

As I've suggested upthread, we need proper figures and then we can judge.

The constant use of the word racist is thrown about so much, it's becoming meaningless. Once upon a time it was shameful to be called racist (as it should be) but people are starting to not care anymore.

It's just becoming another buzzword to yell at people... Nazi, fascist, bigot, transphobic. It's becoming boring and silly.

On the basis immigration is the number one concern of the electorate I think we can say we are all "racists" now. Apparently. The word has lost it's power to shock.

Boris and Blair have created a nation of racists. Well done them.

I think it’s the speed and scale of change in communities that unsettles some people. It’s a lot more nuanced than just calling people who don’t like this change racist - that’s not helping persuade them to your side of the argument.

I agree, it’s also worth noting there are areas of the country that previously hadn’t seen much impact from immigration yet are now seeing a change in how their high streets look and the diminishing accessibility of services whether directly linked to illegal immigration or not.

The country looks and feels abysmal right now for lots of people and blame, rightly or wrongly can be a great political tool.

It is true.

Beware demonising people who hold this opinion and calling them slurs like "racist", "nazi", "fascist". Talk to these people, ask why they are concerned about undocumented males being placed in their communities, with no safeguards for local people particularly girls and women. Imo its been a recipe for disaster, particularly for the girl raped in my town (the undocumented male residing at the hotel now in prison, his mitigating argument in court was that he didn't know it was wrong to rape in our culture, as it was ok in his).

bluevelvetears · 26/09/2025 22:46

You really think that every single person who flies a British flag and voices their worries about so many undocumented men entering the country illegally are racists?

Well, OP? It's not a rhetorical question.

GoodTimesNoodleSalad · 26/09/2025 22:14

People are allowed to dislike the speed and scale at which their culture and communities have changed. You can’t force people to like these things, you know.

That’s what the OP is saying. Just be honest about that rather than ‘hiding’ behind the illegal immigrants topic.

Also, would be interesting to hear what aspects of culture you think have changed. Eg my immigrant parents over 50 years ago came here to a foreign country but kept their culture of cooking traditional Punjabi food and dressing in traditional attire even though there were no shops to service this. They made their food and clothes from scratch. I’m just wondering how it can be that an entire nation has ‘lost’ their culture when white British born are still the overwhelming majority 🤷🏻‍♀️

I suppose it depends where you live. Obviously there are areas of the UK where the British born have been displaced. It's easy to see where just by looking at the demographic figures. Those people might say they have "lost their culture".

Appreciate your reply but I remain perpetually confused about why the phrase ‘we’ve lost our culture’ is so popular and yet no one is ver able to provide examples and how specifically immigration has impacted that.

DarkLion · 26/09/2025 22:14

Yes it makes me so angry! My partner is an overseas worker, we’re both nurses and he pays more tax than most of us, he works here legally, providing a better life for his family back home and has come from genuine hardship and is too afraid to go outside to get food shopping tomorrow because again most protests in our city and is afraid he will be targeted from people thinking he’s an illegal immigrant due to the colour of his skin. He’s an honest hard working person who’s working damn hard for what he has

That's really sad. I'm truly sorry that the vile far-right are making good people like your DH feel so fearful, @DarkLion .

I’m concerned about immigration. I’m not racist, I’m part of a happy multicultural family.

Our country is far too small to keep allowing net 900,000 immigration every year. I value green spaces, food security, a lower flood risk, wildlife, clean air. I don’t want the country ultimately becoming a large city state with the odd park where gardens are for the rich, and I don’t think we are obliged to do so in order to accommodate people from other countries who feel it is their right to live here. We need farmland, importing more and more produce is hideous for the environment and leaves us vulnerable. Our roads and infrastructure are barely coping as it is, and we’ve killed off hundreds of species of native wildlife due to pollution and a lack of habitat.

It’s about so much more than politics and skin colour. In fact those things barely register with me.

This! Immigration is not at any sort of healthy level.
It is out of control .

We are allowed to love our country and crave to keep it that say .

Language would.be important..being able to understand the majority of people that you live in the community with. Marriage perhaps? Arranged marriage is not very British. Or women here are able to marry outside whatever religion they may be, unlike some religions. Very different to the freedom women generally have in the UK.

As it's completely disingenuous to say migrants are eating swans. Yet here we are.

Support racist idiots, and get treated like one.

Are yoi absolutely sure about this? Try talking to those who have witnessed birds being taken

Some years back I read an article about the economic contributions of immigrants based on their country of origin. Not sure it would be published now, but India was top three. The countries at the bottom form most of current immigrants to this country

I think if people could have a decent wage, affordable housing, decent healthcare and social services, there would be a lot less anger and violence projected onto their innocent neighbours

This.

Immigrants, and even UK-born people from minority ethnic groups, are being scapegoated by the far-right and blamed for the failings of successive governments to provide decent public services.

It's not just that though. It's the increase in population overall. This island is feeling more and more crowded. We are set to reach 70 million soon. I rather like the UK countryside and I feel sad when it's built on. We need to house our citizens of course. But I don't see why our countryside needs to be wrecked to house non citizens.

Yes and no, there are some effects of immigrations that money just can’t insulate us from - ultimately more and more people means less space, less food security, more expensive housing, fewer green areas, further need for infrastructure, higher flood risk…

It really isn’t about skin colour and racism for a lot of people

Greenwitchart · 27/09/2025 09:10

Agreed.

I completely understand wanting to stop illegal immigration and making sure we Don't let more people in that our crumbling services and infrastructure can cope with.

But in reality many of the Farage supporters/flag staggers hate anyone who is not white British. Pure racism and xenophobia.

But this is part of the problem. That people don’t assimilate, don’t wear western clothes. The burqua for example is a visible symbol that someone has no intention of integrating into British culture.

Plastictreees · 27/09/2025 09:33

Yeah I guess everyone needs to wear the MN uniform of a floral midi dress and white trainers. They’d be ‘integrated into British culture’ then.

There are bad apples in all parties. Take the anti semites in left wing parties. That's racism too.

I’m not shocked that people are as racist as they are, I’ve heard it my whole life in mumbles and veiled comments and so on, what has shocked me a little is how comfortable so many people are to just say these things out loud. Someone called a woman at the park a ‘p*ki’ yesterday. I don’t think I’ve heard that word out loud like that since the 90s. That did shock me.
Im so sorry that you have to prewarn your kids about this stuff, it’s really wrong.

I have a friend who is of Indian heritage. His family have been in the UK for, iirc, 3 generations prior to his.

He gets called the P-word from time to time, and is often told to fuck off back to where he came from. He took quite a bad beating a couple of years ago, when he responded that the last train to Haslemere had already gone. As a result of it, he now has difficulties walking and gets the mobility element of PIP.

Now he gets abuse for having brown skin and a blue badge on his car and being on benefits, despite the fact that he's worked in a professional occupation most of his adult life, and served in the RAF for 8 years.

His mixed race children have been racially abused too. It's just appalling.

EWAB · 27/09/2025 09:38

London Essex Borders Here I am stunned just how many people around here are now very openly against ALL immigration not just illegal.

I think politicians are näive when then only talk about economics around here people argue that local children don’t get into schools and house prices become out of reach for locals. Essentially the nature of the community changes.

I would argue that now when we socialise people are OPEN with what they have always thought.

This doesn’t stop them, having cleaners, using UBER, Laundryheap and going to the local bakeries all owned and staffed by immigrants assume legal immigrants.

Nannyfannybanny · 27/09/2025 09:42

uggbootsforever,a great post💐. DHs work colleagues, the Asians, hated the blacks,he was very surprised.. people seem to think only white people are racist. My best friend Asian actually dislikes black people.

Spleenmean · 27/09/2025 09:45

I disagree. I think being concerned about the unchecked immigrants, who are coming in and not contributing or integrating is perfectly acceptable. I work with a lot of people from other countries who speak the language, who work hard, who are contributing to society and this issue completely different situation

I would argue it's not what everyone has always thought until possibly the last few years.

If you are Gen X for example, (obviously this doesn't apply to everyone and there are always racists in every group) we grew up being taught skin colour is irrelevant (unlike now when kids are being told its the most important thing about a person) and immigration was pretty low level so it wasnt an issue and people over all didn't have a problem with it. And if you did, you probably were actually racist.

Blair in 1997 and Boris created the situation we are in now by letting huge numbers in and it's created the problem we all face today where it tops the polls as the number one issue. And the majority of those immigrants have non white skin which means people can lump them together in one homogenous group unfortunately. It's not the fault of the UK population that they resent this. It's the fault of politicians for creating a country that people repeatedly voted against.
