This is just not true.

Reform, the flag flyers and protesters are racists. All of this 'It's just the illegals we want gone.' is a lie to excuse their racism.

Do you not think you should find out?
Before supporting people that are using made up statistics?

And the unfortunate problem I find I have is that I am very honest, so I will tell you the limitations of those statistics.

Racists, idiots and people trying to make money will not.

So the truth is automatically at a disadvantage.

You can call them out. You can inform them.

All it takes for evil to flourish is for good people to stand by and do nothing.

I’m not shocked that people are as racist as they are, I’ve heard it my whole life in mumbles and veiled comments and so on, what has shocked me a little is how comfortable so many people are to just say these things out loud. Someone called a woman at the park a ‘p*ki’ yesterday. I don’t think I’ve heard that word out loud like that since the 90s. That did shock me.

I've had shit left on my doorstep 3 days last week.

This stopped after the person who took down the flag left outside my house told everyone in my street it was them and not me.

I dont feel reassured by this.

But I do now feel I have a friend.

So are the ones who aren't racist or making money just stupid, or are they misinformed? Presumably misinformed if you think informing them will help. (Perhaps you would say they're too 'stupid' to recognise misinformation?)

Either way telling them they are just evil and racist won't change their minds in the slightest.

Out of your three categories, aren't the only votes we have any chance of actually changing those of the 'stupid' or 'misinformed' people, not the racists or the ones making money? In which case I think we're back to having to engage and not just call people racist and write them off - if we actually want those votes to change, and not be solidified and entrenched for reform.

I have done my bit but I don't know any personally, the issue is though that if you call out extremists, but then hold firm to your own concerns about immigration control you still get called racist.

See, once again, I am being told to be better than the British born people.

Absolutely nothing is going to change until people start to acknowledge that peoples fears are valid, and that for many people they are not coming from a place of racism.

You don't have to do anything. Keep saying whatever you like. But it's going to have the exact opposite effect of what you want.

And you see, if you explain that away, I'm afraid that is racist.

You are fundamentally saying I am lesser. My voice is lesser. My contribution is lesser.

Because, simply, of where I was born.

Your fears of racism and racist attacks are valid and I am sorry you are experiencing that.

That does not mean that I will agree that people who have concerns about uncontrolled immigration are racist or that I'll accept people being mislabelled.

Many people in Ireland who have a problem with this are immigrants as well.

But the fears are not real. What do they fear that is real?

I think you're missing the point that people do understand you, and understand that your voice is not lesser and your contribution is as good as anyone else's, and that is why they don't want reform to get in, and that is why they think changing the minds of the people who are in danger of voting reform is so important.

And then we get back to how you change minds, what might work and what won't.
