I agree. I suspect it's what most people think. The UK hasn't suddenly become a nation of racists and I hoped we had moved on from calling anyone racist who worries about this small island soon hitting over 70 million people. Presumably many people who have come into this country to live agree.

So why no sensible immigration policy that encourages those the country actually needs?

In fairness, there are far more British and Irish nationals than there are non-British nationals
in the UK. So it’s hardly surprising that the majority of claimants are British and Irish nationals. Does 16.4% represent an over-representation based on non-British nationals as a proportion of the total population.

50% of social housing in London goes to families where the head of the household was not born in the UK. I don't have a particular comment to make but that's an interesting statistic in view of the homelessness that has been rife in London my whole life ( and I'm not a spring chicken).

They do seem to be valued by their constituents which is good. But once again I think the people who complain about their policies - and both seem to have tried really hard to get a handle on immigration, but I think they were both advised that the courts would not stand for some of their suggestions about Channel crossings - all the sort of people who want to promote diversity schemes based on a whole set of criteria that they feel equals oppression.

On a personal level, I have had a professional contact admit that she feels like an idiot for having piloted a particular scheme in her organisation. Apparently she assumed that having a certain skin colour must mean that you have an impoverished background. She had the decency to be embarrassed by this, after finding herself dealing with a trainee who came from a very rich family and went to a fantastic private school. But what a racist assumption, that she was helping out people from poorer backgrounds. Because of their skin colour! Geez you cannot make this stuff up.

But I thought everyone who isn't white is terribly oppressed. Isn't that what we've been told constantly for the last decade? So for someone to assume that translates into being poorer is hardly an odd assumption, let alone a racist one.

The point is they’re not coming in droves to take your UC or benefits like reform are suggesting. The percentage is a negligible and disproportionate to the frenzy being created by the ones who claim they’re taking out of this country.

What I will say though everyone single party has an issue with the welfare bill. There’s a large majority of economically inactive people who are reliant on benefits. Reform have overly simplified to say it’s ’illegal immigrants’ but the stats say otherwise.

So think of it as recruiting one person as part of a scheme - is anyone really daft enough to think that a particular skin colour would make you not privileged? If she was looking for people who came from poor backgrounds, then that's what she should have looked for, surely?

I know people are pumping out this crap but I didn't realise so many people believed it. I suppose it was a surprise to me because she's an intelligent woman, extremely good at her job.

One can be worried about both problems at the same time. There are too many people here already reliant on the welfare state - no need to add more!

I don't think Reform are saying it's the fault of illegal immigrants. They are saying that the net positive economic benefit to the country provided by immigrants as a whole is outweighed by the negative economic effect of immigrant's lifetime in the cost to the country in benefits, schooling etc. This is because a large number of immigrants are in low wage jobs or claiming benefits. Unfortunately it does mean that all immigrants are lumped into one group but perhaps when the wage requirement is raised that statistic will change.

Majority of migrants work and fill in the job gaps. It’s always been like that and always will be. That’s why the trade deal with India has seen tech workers come over here, further incentivised by them not having to pay NI.

So unless you’re going to produce the work force required immigration is going nowhere.

As for those bleating about ‘illegal migration’ it’s the equivalent of 350 Bill for our nhs if we leave the EU. It’s not an issue or the issue you think it to be but it’s necessary you believe it so you vote in the likes of reform.
