Sick of the lie 'It's just illegal immigrants people don't like.'

Slightyamusedandsilly · 26/09/2025 22:08

This is just not true.

Reform, the flag flyers and protesters are racists. All of this 'It's just the illegals we want gone.' is a lie to excuse their racism.

Some Irish, a minority. And I’d agree, there is concern about immigration across Europe from what can see and read in media.

I'm Irish and I wouldn't say it's a minority that are concerned about immigration at all. A hell of a lot of people are, including many immigrants who have made their lives here.

Hi Honish, what do you feel are parts of English identity or culture that you are worried may be lost?

Is it intentional that the entirety of your plethora of posts are apeing the style, tone and sentence structure of chat gpt? It reads as quite odd and it doesn't add any kind of weight or distinction to your contributions, quite the opposite.

Uggbootsforever · 28/09/2025 21:36

Yes.

I’m not a racist.

I don’t care if one day this country ends up as Sikh, Hindu or Wiccan. Countries don’t stay the same forever. Things evolve, places change. I don’t care what skin colour people have, or what the predominant skin colour ends up being here.

But that’s because I don’t see mobs of Sikh men surrounding primary schools baying for the blood of teachers, or demanding intolerant views of gay people be taught. I don’t see Hindus insisting animals be killed in a cruel manner for consumption, and I don’t see Hindu men in other countries decreeing women are unworthy of education or even leaving the house unaccompanied.

I won’t apologise for this and it isn’t racist.

If Islam came into existence tomorrow, and was predominantly a white person thing, the views on it here would be very very different.

I’m listening and your as all on this forums views are valid - as they are your views. Your experience of followed of Islam is different to my personal experiences - I have pals who are Muslim, I went to school with Muslims and work with Muslims. No issues. The behaviour you share is pretty extreme. My mum for a while in my childhood was what was known then as a Christian fundamentalist - she had some pretty extreme views which terrified the life out of me at times - homophobic, anti women’s rights (anti abortion), believed in death penalty (how utterly unchristian is that!), so much more. That sect of Christianity is still alive and well in the USA which does worry me tbh. A lot.

Equally Reform are decreed as racist but how many people do you know that openly share racist views? Many people keep their private views to themselves, as they’re entitled to do.

Hi both… I’m ASD (autism spectrum disorder) - if my writing comes through as chat gpt ( think the runner up in love island - that was her nickname and think she was ASD!)… that may be why, I can’t say. I’m curious and also want to understand what others with views that may be different to mine feel and think.

People are allowed to dislike the speed and scale at which their culture and communities have changed. You can’t force people to like these things, you know.

What in the culture and communities has changed? I’m genuinely asking because this sounds reasonable but I don’t ever hear detail on what exactly has changed.

You ask how many people do I know that are openly racist? Sadly a few. In my extended family. You also say many people keep their views to themselves as they are entitled to - agree. No one is forced to share their views but thank you for sharing your views this evening.

Yep, it’s the new ‘Oh, we don’t mean you’.

And when BAME people naturally withdraw into their own communities for a sense of safety, they’re accused of not integrating.

Did you not see the amount of BAME people that took part in the London Protests? Literally hundreds of.

Some people are just past caring about the name calling.

It’s not ”name calling” though is it? It’s telling them that they are being prejudiced on the basis of someone’s race or ethnicity which is a deplorable way to behave and weakens society as a whole.

Who goes round telling people they are prejudiced though!? Extraordinarily offensive behaviour..as if anyone knows anything about what complete strangers think. This sort of weird behaviour is what weakens society.

Do you do that to people's faces or just anonymously online out of interest.

We don’t have a net immigration of 900k a year, it was 430k last year.

Ah, that’s all right then. Just wondering where all those extra homes were built though?

Desdemonadryeyes · 26/09/2025 22:23

No problem with anyone coming here to work.

It’s the boat migrants that concern me.

And all the reasons people want to come here rather than stay in France.

And the mass emigration from countries who need these people to improve their own economies.

And the traffickers who make so much money.

The list is endless.

You’d probably call me racist.

Would you treat these people with respect? If yes, you're not a racist. If not, you are. Very simple.

Maybe. If so, I suspect the type you describe are the (vocal) minority

I think migration has become a focal point for people who are actually angry about piss poor governance (illegal migration isn't anywhere near top of their priority list).

I'd love to see protests about poverty, lack of/poor social care, homelessness, wages etc etc. If Labour were performing well in ANY of the aforementioned areas, I don't think people would be as fussed about the abject failure of Starmer's promise to 'smash the gangs'.

Can I give you a personal example?

I worked with someone until fairly recently who was quite defensive about FGM, thinking that as this was a common practice where she grew up and lived for most of her adult life, people in the UK should be more tolerant of it, and we’re in fact a ‘racist’ society for not accepting these cultural differences. She also believed in witchcraft and voodoo, which I personally believe to be nonsense; we now have a Met police unit dedicated to this. There are some cultural practices which we find abhorrent in this country and cannot and should not tolerate for the sake of diversity and inclusion, no? Does it make someone racist for not wanting these beliefs or practices to be condoned or tolerated? This is what weakens a society - no common agreement on principles, values and morals.

Duckduckagogo · 28/09/2025 23:58

Sick of hateful bigots pretending they don't understand the genuine, documented, obvious and real concerns of the majority of people, sick of hateful bigots calling the majority of the UK vile names and slurs in an attempt to frighten them into silence.

Ask mumsnet to edit your title, I've fixed it for you.

Indeed, gouging out someone's clitoris and sewing their labia nearly shut is not a cultural practice, it is a barbaric torture and anyone involved should serve a life sentence in prison.

But this was her point… that we talk so much about being an inclusive and tolerant society, that she was annoyed that there are things we, in fact, don’t tolerate. We can’t just say anything goes, tolerance is endless, to the extent that we have no principles or values at all?

I thought I made it clear that I agree with the reality that we cannot and will not tolerate intolerable behaviours in the name of "culture". If I did not make that clear, then I apologise.

I fully support locking up any people who perpetuate inhuman practices such as raping young girls in gangs, gouging out clitorises, attacking people with machetes in the street, no matter their ethnicity, excuses or "culture".

And if they are not citizens of the country where they perpetrate barbaric or criminal acts, of course they must be deported.

Ah, that’s all right then. Just wondering where all those extra homes were built though?

Almost 400,000 were on student visas, so I’d imagine they’d be mostly living in the very many student accommodation high-rise blocks that have been thrown up in recent years.

That's exactly what it is for many.

No right-minded person would say that should be tolerated.

But by the same token, if we go round saying all Muslims practice FGM and they’re all barbarians and shouldn’t be allowed into the UK, that would be an Islamophobic lie.

I think this is where the two sides differ. Nobody would deny that in a large group of people there will be some sex offenders. But if we deny all brown people access to the UK because a small proportion of them are sex offenders, does that mean by the same token we should never be allowed to leave the UK because a similar percentage of Britons are sex offenders? Would you think it unfair if you suddenly weren’t allowed into Spain for example, or would you completely understand that the Spanish locals may be fearful after hearing of rapes perpetrated by British visitors?

It’s the tarring everyone with the same brush that makes it racist, not the concerns themselves.

JellybeanTheQueen · 29/09/2025 00:48

I've stopped using the terms far right, racist and fascist, because it just shuts people down straight away ( even if I think they are) I refer to those people as Bullies. People who choose to bully other people because of some difference. I find people can get their heads around that without getting defensive. There's a greater willingness to concede and consider alternative opinions/ facts if they think they might be seen as a bully.
I also drop into most conversations the question "what percentage of the UK population is Muslim?" Just to be able to tell them it's just 6%. And in Wales where I live it's just 2%..
I've never yet had anyone not be shocked at how much less it is than they thought. Then I just let that simmer....

I think it’s the speed and scale of change in communities that unsettles some people. It’s a lot more nuanced than just calling people who don’t like this change racist - that’s not helping persuade them to your side of the argument.

What speed? Communities have been changing al my life. It's rarely if ever something that happens overnight. I think this is just one of those mantras that Farage comes up with, and people have accepted it without realising he is literally making it up.
