Sick of the lie 'It's just illegal immigrants people don't like.'

Slightyamusedandsilly · 26/09/2025 22:08

This is just not true.

Reform, the flag flyers and protesters are racists. All of this 'It's just the illegals we want gone.' is a lie to excuse their racism.

I was convinced it was about illegal entries and those abusing the system or spouting hate and racism themselves, but Nigel Farage new ILR speech has opened my eyes. What he said this week is not what he was saying prior, at all. Now is all foreigners.
Tomorrow will be all ill and disable, or all pensioners or all.... whatever works for them.

Still, the flag of this country does not mean anything bad to me and it will never. It is a symbol to be proud of. End of.
And I still have my eyes on the real problems of this country, which are a long long list, starting with the NHS. I have added Farage to my problems list. I think it is good he feels bold enough to speak the truth. So UK can judge him for what he really really is. I doubt he will get anywhere.

When you call everyone who disagrees with you and has concerns about all types of immigration (legal and illegal) racist then you shut down conversation.

I have concerns over legal and illegal immigration.

I no longer give a crap if people call me racist. I'm not by any sane definition of the term, but instead people are using ideological definitions which are far too wide ranging and nothing to do with actual racism.

If you call everyone racist, or far right, how then do you really see those who are actually dangerous individuals who are out to hurt others?

Exactly. That's why it's so important to say what you mean and be able to explain words you use. The meanings seem to have changed to become subjective rather than objective. That's why I'm trying to get to the bottom of what Plastic means even if she's getting upset being asked questions. Just so we can judge what is good and what is bad.

But you are demonising immigrants based on the actions of one.

Why is it ok for you to do it but noone else?

Women and girls in the UK are more at risk from white British born men then immigrants.

Foreign born people make up 16% of the population.
Foreign born people make up 12% of convicted criminals.

That "one" was unnecessary, surely Hmm. Think if it had been your daughter. There have been plenty of other incidents I have not listed, including demanding monies with menaces from the old peoples flats nearby, following and photographing girls and women, shouting and following girls and women, assaulting girls and women. The list goes on and on.

Yes, that old trope about is having our own home grown deviants who prey on girls and women. Does that really mean we should open the floodgates and allow undocumented males whose culture demeans women, particularly those in western dress, and thinks it is ok to target them in the street? Really? Give your head a wobble, @Toastandbutterand I find your attitude towards girls and women in my town distasteful.

What are the posts? And what is your definition of racism? So we can judge if you are correct or not that there are racist posts on MN.

Where is the apology for lying about me accusing posters of being racist on this thread?

@Plastictreees After you asked 'are you cognitively challenged' which is a not very subtle insult

No one should respond to that

Try using courtesy

Nice try. You're just avoiding the question now. You can't answer. It's very obvious.

I've made my point and I don't think I'm going to get an answer so let's leave it there, it being Saturday evening. But if I were you, Id think next time about using inflamatory words that you don't want to define or don't want to explain why you've used them.

There was a lot of concern about immigration when free movement was brought in from the Eastern European countries.

those countries are primarily white.

it is possible to be concerned about immigration and not racist.

there were impacts on government services - I worked in a school at the time and you really did get kids just turning up with virtually no English. It was quite challenging.

Hi, just as an FYi racism can be white to white racism, etc. Example - how the English were racist towards the Irish ( calling them feral, uneducated, dirty, violent, lazy, working, dangerous, thick etc). No Irish, no blacks, no dogs.

Agree with you about Farage. When one reads the policies Reform want to have - they are mental! It seems to be the goal is nothing at all about immigration - it’s using immigration as a way to dismantle the state - and also democracy overall. Ideas Su ch as to not vote in MPs. Hard NO.

ginasevern · 27/09/2025 18:44

I think it's very fair to say that many Reform voters are racially motivated. But I don't think it's fair to say that everyone who is concerned about unchecked immigration is automatically racist. The two issues don't necessarily go hand in hand. It's like saying that all GC women are transphobic. They aren't. You don't have to be transphobic to be concerned about the wider implications. I can understand anyone being deeply concerned about the rise of the far right but that doesn't negate concerns about illegal immigration.

So you don’t watch the news? The news that shows boatloads of men coming across the channel and reports the current daily count as 1000.

No wonder you don’t get it, if you think anyone is talking about one Big Issue seller. Do you operate in the basis that if you having personally witnessed something, it’s not happening? A bizarre and self gaslighting approach to life.

And yes it’s quite pathetic how you just like to throw around accusations of racism against people who disagree with you. Are the government racist? You know they are trying to stop the small boats? Are the other people who have legally settled and assimilated into this country but object to mass undocumented men wandering around our town centres also racist?

I’m quite amazed at how you’ve reached this point in your thinking.

This government needs to change how people are applying for asylum - atm you can’t apply until you are on Uk soil. Which is crackers and is causing so much of the issues. Also, we all know that all asylum seekers are legal. It would make things a lot more efficient if folk could apply BEFORE arrive and forms could be assessed prior to arrival.i am pleased we remain committed to the 1951 UN constitution too - after WWII we signed this to ensure never again. That all methods of travel are legal to arrive to a country to find asylum. ❤️

Booksaresick · 27/09/2025 18:59

Dogsandhens · 27/09/2025 17:39

So you don't really have a definition of racism to tell us?

Basically what I think has happened here is that you have been chucking out thr insult "racist" willy nilly to anyone on this thread. Without any evidence to back it up. And youve been using that word for effect and because it's easy and requires no thought from you.

I agree with this. The poster accusing others of being racist without being able to back it up with sensible argument sounds a bit like my teenage nephew who calls all adults boomers whenever they dare to challenge him. Doesn’t matter what year you were born, if you are over 35 and challenge his opinions you get “ok boomer”. He’s unable to define the word either.

FrippEnos · 27/09/2025 19:05

For those that missed it

This is apparently the new definition of racism

"racism is discrimination against minority groups, including hate speech"

As its made up it is why no-one knows what racism on these boards is.

and to catch everyone up

This

"prejudice discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalised"

is the normal definition.

There are a few others.

Data from the 2021 census. So its probably a higher proportion now given the increase in immigration since then.

They cost taxpayers £3.6 billion/year in discounted rent.

This is the data for the whole of the UK (so London may, in fairness, be higher, but it shows that people born outside the UK are not really any more likely to be in social housing than those born in the UK and that there has been no significant increase in those born outside the UK living in social housing since 2011.

If you don’t want to be called a racist, don’t be one. It’s that simple.

Well no it clearly isn't.
Because lots of people aren't in any way racist, they're not 'be-ing one', but yet they get called it anyway just for discussing immigration concerns.

GypsyQueeen · 27/09/2025 21:07

The problem is that somewhere along the way, immigration and racism seem to have become one.

Immigration and racism are two separate issues.

We need to be able to have sensible conversations about immigration without accusing each other of being racist.

Other countries are able to do this.
Why can't we? Why do some British people find these conversations so difficult?

755,000 people cam here between 2023-24. Perfectly legally, but it is far too many. If they all stay and have children then pretty soon we are going to be a nation of people with no shared collective history and nothing in common. Nobody ever gave Boris Johnson permission to relax the visa rules so much and to turn our island in to Singapore. People are rightly furious, and no, it’s not racism.
