Are all of us foreigners just going to be told to pack up and leave if Reform win?

I might be totally unreasonable here (or not), but please hear me out.
(Bloody) foreigner here — I’ve lived in the UK since 2001. Built my whole life here: house, husband, DC, the lot. Worked the whole time in a field that requires the highest level of qualification.
I’m getting increasingly worried about the talk of Reform winning in 2029. Some even say it could be sooner if Labour are pushed into early elections. This week (as we all heard) our beloved Reform suggested rescinding ILR or even settled status from Europeans. God knows what else they’ll come up with, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they went after naturalised Brits next and started revoking citizenship, just to please the voters.
I know a lot of foreign-born women — some married to born-and-bred Brits, some to other Europeans (not always from the same country), some to men from overseas. All sorts of combinations.
So what do you think lies ahead for us? Will we be politely asked to leave, or will things just get so hostile that we’re pushed out anyway? And how likely is it that people who aren’t very white, or who have an accent, will face more discrimination in work?
I’m meeting my foreign friends tonight and we’ll be talking about it. For most of us, moving now would be incredibly difficult. We’re late 30s to early 50s, and starting over in a new country isn’t exactly easy. Some of us are married to men from different countries entirely, and we don’t even speak each other’s languages well enough to get proper jobs there.

AIBU and should think we will actually be allowed to stay?
AINBU sorry but you’d better start planning your move now

Muslim countries are very misogynistic. The majority of men in these countries see women as second class citizens. They have it ingrained into them from birth that men are the superior sex. They have zero respect for women, which carries over when they come here. It’s learned behaviour.

This is completely false, racist stereotyping. Sounds like you have zero respect for muslim people and see them as dangerous/ unpleasant/ inferior/ beneath you. Where did these ideas come from? Ingrained and learned from birth?

Mjmum10 · 27/09/2025 20:30

That is simply not true. How can they be far right, they want controlled migration. They want to keep people who add a lot to the economy here. If your born here, have a good career or married to a british citizen you have nothing to worry about.

It’s as if you didn’t listen or read anything about their IDL policy announcement at all.

LaDumDum · 27/09/2025 20:34

Amazing how some people think being born somewhere is an achievement. This thread is catnip for them.

MyPinkTraybake · 27/09/2025 20:34

My theory is that whatever America does comes here eventually. Not immediately but we bear the consequences. America departs people. More people want to come here. Eventually we have to address it with punitive policies. If you want to stay get citizenship now would be my advice. It may not be the next parliament but eventually its going to be really difficult to come to the UK.

It’s not an achievement, it’s an administrative formality. A necessary one.

No-one's deporting you if your child is British, relax.

I love the way people keep making up their own versions of this policy that are more palatable than what was actually said and reporting it as fact.

The age of consent in Nigeria is 11 years of age.

The age of criminal responsibility in the UK is 10, which is barbaric by international standards. Does that imply all people from Britain are barbarians?

False? How? It’s factual. So you don’t think it’s misogynistic for young underage girls to be pushed into marriage, or women to be forced into arranged marriages, ‘honour’ killings for those that try to break the mould. Women stopped from working, having a career. Forced into covering themselves from head to foot. Disproportionately punished for adultery by death, whilst men are allowed several wives. This is happening in many Muslim countries and it’s appalling that you’re trying to gas light people into believing it’s false. Shame on you.

What do you think will actually improve with a Reform government?

It certainly won't be the economy, or the NHS. What do you think they have planned for education?

Reform will improve the NHS. I believe they will save it from disaster, the decline and strain on this service is unsustainable. Reform will keep it free at the point of use. It's going to take time

The education system is also suffering, my boy only 5 years old came home with a drawing and leaflet saying the world has no borders. He got told all immigrants came to the UK because of a storm 🤦🏼‍♀️ I'm sick of those on the left pushing their ideologies on impressionable young children in schools. I'm putting him in a new school suffice to say. But I hope reform will put a stop to this.

I trust them to improve the economy. Who did the last recession occur under, not including the short lived recession during covid?

I agree, whatever the States does, we follow - I think of Reform as a kind of ‘MAGA’ for the UK. If we had dealt with the immigration issue 20 years ago, we could’ve introduced a series of more gentle measures that would’ve slowly reversed the flow and tempered the numbers down in a way that was effective without harsh approaches or the rug being pulled from anyone’s feet.

But no. Anyone with concerns was deemed thick and racist, and Gordon Brown was even recorded calling a member of the public a bigot for her immigration concerns.

So, here we are 🤷‍♀️ and the left still haven’t learned. They never will, and I blame them for whatever comes next. They had every chance to deal with this properly and prevent overcorrection and they never did.

Yes and no. You can be criminally prosecuted at that age, but it’s very rare and there are different charging thresholds for children and the punishments are much much much lighter and expire from your records at 18 (unless murder etc)

Alloveragain44 · 27/09/2025 20:41

My cousin is British by birth and descent. His partner of 15 years is Ukranian from Mariupol. Thry have two children and managed to get out at the last second before the theatre that they were staying in was obliterated. Their children have deep trauma and are now in the UK. They've never talked about getting married but are now looking into that just sorting out the children's citizenship. They don't have a house to go back to, their family all dead. It's just them. I could bear he thought of them being deported.

Shudahaddogs · 27/09/2025 20:42

Hes not talking about you tho. He's talking about men coming in this country illegally. you followed the rules, got the paperwork, your an asset to this country. No sane person would ever think the people of the world dont move around. We need diversity and culture in this small island. I think he is talking about the men who think they are above the laws in our land.

Of course it's not factual.
The vast majority of Muslim people don't support honour killings and forced/ underage marriage or any of the other things you list.
Rape happens in the uk, it doesn't follow that most British people support rape.
This is just pure racism. What you believe and what you are saying is racist. Dehumanising. Stereotyping. Based on total ignorance.
Shame on you

A birth certificate is not a proof of citizenship, it just shows that your place of birth is in the UK.

I had several college who had their babies in the UK, non of them have UK citizenship as the parents didn’t qualify for ILR at that time.

I can be British and born abroad so don’t have a “normal” birth certificate”.

A child under 16 does not have a National Insurance number.

I know a birth certificate is not proof of citizenship, neither is digital id. It's not going to help us deport illegals. If you have these documents, passport , birth certificate, national insurance number etc you don't need digital ID end of. It's another step closer to communism thanks to our Fabian pm

Honestly I would just ignore that person. Their post indicates they want 10 year olds to be prosecuted and 11 year olds to be able to consent to sex. Little children aren't adults, but this person wants them to act and be treated like they are. I wouldn't even engage with someone like that, let alone on an Internet forum where we can just avoid them.

APTPT · 27/09/2025 19:28

Oh, there goes that British superiority- you consider yourself so much better than the Saufis or the Sudanese, all the while gearing up for the mass deportation of previously legal and peaceful immigrants?

I have lived for a few years each in two countries much criticised by the media here - Russia and China. I distinctly recall so many articles particularly about China and how inhumane and contemptuous of human life they are. The irony. I only speak of my own experience: I never personally encountered any anti-immigrant prejudice in either country (in Russia, once they realised I wasn't American, they visibly relaxed; generally they thought I was French though as that is apparently how my Russian sounded).

Whereas here in the UK have been told I came here to use the NHS (that I pay for twice, through Immigrant NHS Surcharge and NI on my wages), to claim benefits I am not entitled to, to get citizenship (that I would never apply for as it might endanger my own birth citizenship), in short to do anything other than work and raise my half-English kids with my English husband. And now I have the fun of hearing my ILR which took many years and many thousands of pounds to each may be rescinded according to your latest anti-immigrant political whim.

I have had to listen to tirades about illegal immigrants, about boat people raping and pillaging the southern shores, about mail order brides from Ukraine, about the Polish and Romanians who undercut locals and don't pay tax, about Muslims and their habits, about Africans and the way they bring their prejudices with them, and the whites from the colonies who come here to work and get jobs over the locals then fuck off home, and how we all need to be deported.

I also live in a place where people are routinely dumped once they have had asylum applications approved and a short move-on period has passed. Literally dumped like so much human detritus, with no housing, no support, no nothing. An emaciated man apparently from the subcontinent froze to death in the park beside my house last winter and AFAIK he was never identified. The general local reaction from my fellow dog walkers? "Good."

Edited

Perhaps it’s because in the UK it is only a small island and there are so many immigrants and it’s too much

especially when there is so little affordable housing and space

I wish the previous governments hadn’t started the free movement in 2002 then maybe Brexit wouldn’t have been necessary
