Are all of us foreigners just going to be told to pack up and leave if Reform win?

I might be totally unreasonable here (or not), but please hear me out.
(Bloody) foreigner here — I’ve lived in the UK since 2001. Built my whole life here: house, husband, DC, the lot. Worked the whole time in a field that requires the highest level of qualification.
I’m getting increasingly worried about the talk of Reform winning in 2029. Some even say it could be sooner if Labour are pushed into early elections. This week (as we all heard) our beloved Reform suggested rescinding ILR or even settled status from Europeans. God knows what else they’ll come up with, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they went after naturalised Brits next and started revoking citizenship, just to please the voters.
I know a lot of foreign-born women — some married to born-and-bred Brits, some to other Europeans (not always from the same country), some to men from overseas. All sorts of combinations.
So what do you think lies ahead for us? Will we be politely asked to leave, or will things just get so hostile that we’re pushed out anyway? And how likely is it that people who aren’t very white, or who have an accent, will face more discrimination in work?
I’m meeting my foreign friends tonight and we’ll be talking about it. For most of us, moving now would be incredibly difficult. We’re late 30s to early 50s, and starting over in a new country isn’t exactly easy. Some of us are married to men from different countries entirely, and we don’t even speak each other’s languages well enough to get proper jobs there.

AIBU and should think we will actually be allowed to stay?
AINBU sorry but you’d better start planning your move now

Now I'm sorry, but especially that last part is bullshit 🤣 Reform is the best of a bad bunch. Lib Dems are laughable. Labour and the Tories have destroyed this country, their time is over. The digital ID is the nail in the coffin. The other parties are too small before I even went into their policies.

I'd rather take my chances and trust reform will do a satisfactory job, than trust these existing parties track record

I love how people are against immigrants and at the same time against the digital id 🤣 a document that can actually help tackle illegal migration by strengthening controls over borders, accessing public services etc 🤣

as if they just don’t use any logic 🤣

It won’t. In the same way Germany has ID and the highest unauthorised migrants numbers in the EU.

Those who don’t comply now still won’t.

But he’s not suggesting deporting them, just reevaluating the group by introducing a fresh Visa process. Ultimately he wants to stem the flow of people entitled to ILR in future by making the process harder particularly for people with low career potential and the likelihood of just claiming benefits.

I honestly don’t see what’s wrong with this. I have a friend whose mother is from the Middle East, moved here in the late 1980s, can only speak a few individual words of English and has never worked. Why should the taxpayer fund her medical care, housing, pension etc?

But he’s not suggesting deporting them, just reevaluating the group by introducing a fresh Visa process.

a process that will lead the deportation of the majority of people because they won't meet the revised criteria. Do you not understand the impact that this will have on the lives of real people? People who have lived and contributed to the UK for years and years. Who have built a life here- entirely legally and by the rules. Why do you think those people are expendable?

Now do the same thing for all the other political parties. You'll find a mess of contradictions for them all.

Implying that Reform voters should all agree about everything isn't the slam dunk you think it is.

Here we have something we both agree with.

But on this thread, talking about this particular topic which presumably is of great concern to you, why would we allow ourselves to be deflected onto other parties?

Is that because they're doing such a good job in the councils where they have control?

Don’t worry, I earn 3 times over the threshold and have a citizenship. Say thank you to highly qualified immigrants like me next time you attend a GP appointment.

and as a person who knows a lot more about legal immigrants who hold ILR (how little they are entitled to or use in benefits or finances and how much more they actually contribute) I know as well how dumb Reform ideas are.
first it was EU fault - somehow Brexit failed to deliver the riches (just the opposite).
now it is legal migrants with ILR

after they are kicked out and that will invariably fail to
improve the economy (again just the opposite) there will be another hair brained idea to find someone else to blame
good luck 😂

The irony. I've been in hospital three weeks, third admission in 3 months. Our strained NHS hasn't got time to fix me. I won't be thanking you anytime soon pal.
Not interested in your salary either, no one likes a humble brag

Bring on reform

BoldDave · 27/09/2025 18:41

Yet Reform do not want ID cards that could help identify these so called "illegals?" One would think they would love to be able to stop people in the street and deport them just likes his hero Trumps masked ICE squads??

If I wanted to live in a communist country, I'd vote to keep Labour in. Thank god reform are against that.

Ekle2 · 27/09/2025 18:46

Firstly, Reform in power would need legal authority through parliament, put in place safeguards and be compliant with human rights and current immigration laws, Both houses would need to approve it......( Good luck with that) Secondly and most importantly, i bet the EU have more bargaining power than the UK

GapingWhole · 27/09/2025 18:47

applesandpinkoranges · 26/09/2025 16:14

Of course not. If all ‘foreigners’ left tomorrow the NHS would collapse for a start. That just won’t happen.

It’s the illegal immigrants people have a problem with, not those who have come here legitimately to work hard and contribute to society.

I’m sorry but I think this is a similar ‘head in the sand’ point of view that led to Brexit. Yes, there are people who are only concerned about illegal immigrants, but there are also many who dislike ‘foreigners’ of any description. As you rightly say, the NHS for one would be in a very sorry state, but if Reform is in power who do you think is going to make sure that it “just won’t happen“?

The answer is yes, they think these people (largely women) are expendable.

I have never lived anywhere where human life is valued so cheaply.

This - the big difference to the US, our laws actually require more than a signature on a piece of paper.

How about Saudi? Or Sudan? Or Venezuela? My goodness you’re sheltered

Notonthestairs · 27/09/2025 18:55

A majority government would put it through Parliament!
The HoL could hold up any policy for up to a year but if its in the manifesto they have their hands tied and it will have to go through.

There are very few limits on what a majority government could introduce.

I love the graph included in that which shows quite clearly how immigration changed after Brexit. I know Nige is blaming it on Boris but this was a widely predicted outcome.of Brexit (part of "project fear").

I think this is a really dense point of view. If mass deportation happens the NHS will have A LOT less to treat. Some hospitals not a word of English is spoken in A&E, it is all foreign nationals. So I really don’t think this big NHS collapse will happen.

And in answer to a PP, I do hate Reform, I was born here, mu parents were born here, I'm not "of colour" by the way, but the suggestion that all Reform-haters are somehow "foreigners" is a foretaste of the kind of rampant bigotry we can expect if these charlatans win power.

Never said all, just a significant amount of people who dislike reform are those who are not British by birth. Your entitled to your views as an I. Reform voters are not racist. Zia Yusuf is literally head of Reform?

A classic far left tactic, brand anyone you disagree with a bigot and insinuate they are racist

TottenhamCake · 27/09/2025 18:58

Op why not just get citizenship instead of trying to get the best of both worlds and whining that it might be taken away from you?

No-one is going to boot out top tier qualified folk and those in STEM fields (unless they have criminal records). Assuming you don't have a criminal record you really have nothing to worry about. Plus your children are British and you've married a British person. If anything you'd be the last person anyone would mind.

Really? So you have complete knowledge of which staff members would leave? We'd end up with the perfect combination of junior/SASC doctors, nurses, porters, care workers etc etc in every hospital in the country?
Wow.
