I had to go to GP earlier with ongoing bowel issues. She asked me to lay down so she could listen to my abdomen. I laid down, she pressed the stethoscope onto my stomach and I ended up involuntarily farting loudly. She actually jumped back at the sound. Absolutely mortified, I start to apologise and my stomach starts making loud squeaky noises and I end up farting again mid sentence. She remained professional throughout but I’m so embarrassed. I have to go back tomorrow and I’m dreading a) seeing her again and b) it happening again.

DH says will have forgotten all about it. Is he right or just being nice? I feel like cancelling the appointment

Most married women would be used it. She’s a Dr won’t be bothered at all.

Donnyboy · 27/09/2025 20:08

Wait until you go for a colonoscopy you will probably do more than fart, after you have taken two lots of preparation to clear your bowels and intestines. Don,t be embarrassed concentrate on finding out what's wrong and get cured xxx.

Ronb · 27/09/2025 20:09

You should not try to hold back a fart or it will travel up your spine into you head & turn your brain into poo

ohyesido · 27/09/2025 20:20

She will have seen heard and smelt worse.

ohyesido · 27/09/2025 20:25

My sainted mother often farts at inopportune moments, so I make a point of letting one go too so she feels less bad about it.

She has Parkinson’s

Bananaandmangosmoothie · 27/09/2025 20:29

Well you probably shouldn’t be a doctor if you’re squeamish about bodies so I’m sure it’s fine.

Letsbeavinyah · 27/09/2025 20:39

I work in a medical centre and to answer your worry, believe me they hear and see a lot worse then someonevwith wind. Please don't worry, the GP has probably long forgotten your meeting

MischievousBiscuits · 27/09/2025 20:45

If its any consolation OP, ive seen a video of a local girl bending over to do an exercise with her PT in the gym and she farted in his face, in front of the whole class!

If that had been me I'd have covered my face and started laughing. I'm sure she would as well.. People do fart you know.. Even the queen did haha i find it very funny haha

WorkItUpYourBangle · 27/09/2025 20:58

Trust me, this sort of thing is a part of their every day. She will have known you were embarrassed but she won't have been embarrassed. She will realise you have bowel issues. She farts too remember.

Blogswife · 27/09/2025 20:58

Natural bodily functions don’t phase medical professionals . It’s probably helped your GP to diagnose you so don’t cancel your appointment .

Topseyt123 · 27/09/2025 21:22

Hearing patients farting must go with the territory of being a doctor. It's an occupational hazard I should think. Keep the appointment.

Doctors fart too.

LatteLady · 27/09/2025 21:34

Honestly @BrisPerm just be grateful you are not on a ward after 10:00pm... it can be a cacophany of farts, underpinned by other patients trying not to laugh and often it is the most staid pts, who trumpet the loudest. And no, you farting will be the least of the GP's worries.

Coco1379 · 27/09/2025 21:35

I think doctors are used to such things. I once bit my dentist. And after an op asked the surgeon to take me to the loo (I was woozy in my defence)!

Naanspiration · 27/09/2025 21:54

The Dr will never forget about it.

Facts 😂

ProudBrickBiscuit · 27/09/2025 22:53

They’ve seen and heard worse, trust me. Forget about it.

SnappyMoose · 28/09/2025 00:50

in your shoes I would make it a joke so that you can both have a giggle, in the future this is going to crack you up comically - it does sound mortifying but even more than that how bad she must have felt for you! I assure you they have dealt with much much worse and if anything she would have a giggle or use it as a giggle at home if she even remembered it. It was completely not your fault and doctor getting a fright aside, its actually her job farts and all so its all in a days work to her xx I hope you are laughing more than cringing about this in the near future and that you are healthy xx

MrsTrellisOgleddCymru · 28/09/2025 01:54

Don’t give it a second thought, your doctor will have. If it had happened to me, I’d have ended up giggling! Was in Tesco with my DS28, I tried with all my might to hold a fart in, and ended up with it sounding like a foghorn. Darling Son commented ‘Thar she blows!’

MerryUmberHedgehog · 28/09/2025 06:51

If you've got bowel issues then Dr wouldn't be surprised at you fasting. Better out than in.

BabyBlue777 · 28/09/2025 09:52

People in the medical industry understand bodily functions. Who cares if you farted. I'm sure you made her laugh. I can fart like a trooper... so what? Everyone farts. Nothing to be ashamed of. Go in and give her a big smile. And maybe another big fart just to make it three! LOLZ

LEDZEP2 · 28/09/2025 11:56

The doc won't bother, they have seen worse, its part of their job,

Don't worry about it, you're human!
Doctors fart too !!
