I had to go to GP earlier with ongoing bowel issues. She asked me to lay down so she could listen to my abdomen. I laid down, she pressed the stethoscope onto my stomach and I ended up involuntarily farting loudly. She actually jumped back at the sound. Absolutely mortified, I start to apologise and my stomach starts making loud squeaky noises and I end up farting again mid sentence. She remained professional throughout but I’m so embarrassed. I have to go back tomorrow and I’m dreading a) seeing her again and b) it happening again.

DH says will have forgotten all about it. Is he right or just being nice? I feel like cancelling the appointment

If it helps, I recently gave birth and shat for England. It just wouldn’t stop coming! 💩 It was pretty horrific but now It’s part of a really funny story 🤣

Don’t be embarrassed. It is proof that your bowel issues are not imaginary.
Ever since I had birth trauma I have been gas incontinent. If I laugh, good chance it will be accompanied by a fart.

And are you prone to the snart? ( sneezing and farting)

Why yes I am. Sometimes I will add in a cough to a sneeze or sneeze extra loud to hide the sound of the fart,

Knew it would be a fart! 😁 yabu OP...... you have a fabulously funny story and so does she! (We love farts and shit humour in this house)

Nicely done @LoremIpsumCici !

CactusSammy · 26/09/2025 21:37

Dont worry @BrisPerm, your fart is nothing compared to the many fantastical items GPS have to extract from patients arseholes while they are doing their training in A&E.

AgeingGreycefully · 26/09/2025 21:42

Trust me, I have a much much worse story. But I just tell myself they’ve seen it all, they take it in their stride….!!! Whatever you do keep your appointments! 😁

Sunflower459 · 26/09/2025 21:43

Don’t be pressing the fart button and act all surprised when fart’s home, doc! Seriously, though, she won’t have been fazed by this. Don’t give yourself a hard time; no one with a body never leaked or emitted something they wished they hadn’t at some point. I know it’s a cliché, but she’ll have encountered worse. I hope you get sorted, though; bowel problems can really get you down.

IsSheOkayOrWhat · 26/09/2025 21:45

If it makes you feel any better, I farted in the face of a woman doing my wax once!!!! Bent over on all fours…. Pop!!!! 🤣 20years later still telling the story! You have to laugh about these things…. We’re human!

Typical leftie “if you don’t agree with me, you’re wrong”

bore off

Not being ignorant and actually understanding the reality rather than only listening to bigoted echo chambers does not make one a leftie

Sorry to burst your bubble

RandomUserName96 · 26/09/2025 21:47

But why let facts get in the way of opinion eh

DirtyMartinii · 26/09/2025 21:47

she will

Debzyrobinson · 26/09/2025 22:07

I'm sure if she's professional, she probably used to people farting.

I am sure you are not the first and won’t be the last! It probably gave her a giggle when you left and a story to tell 🤣 but as for her thinking anything bad of you for a completely normal and uncontrollable reaction, absolutely not !

Better an empty house than a bad tenant, as my dad would say!

Honestly OP, please don’t dwell on it. She’ll have experienced much worse. I understand your embarrassment, because since I started chemo my bowel has a life of its own, and if it wants to let rip it does! I bent over to pick my bag up and treated the silent ward to one my rip roaring specials 🙈 Everyone, including me, was probably very glad my seat was beside the wide open windows 😂

So Sorry, I misread & 'voted' the wrong way - YABU to think that you should cancel the next appointment - just really proved that you maybe do need GP advice / assistance with your health issues - if a friend told you this happened to them, what would you advise them to do?? Please don't ignore something that is potentially (but hopefully not) serious XX🌹

Fukadoodledo · 26/09/2025 22:42

Omg I do that out shopping etc, and feel the same as you do, I don't know when this will happen so it affects us all. Just think your GP has done this herself at times if it makes you feel better.

InterestedDad37 · 26/09/2025 22:53

She might privately refer to you as Ms Farty Mc Fartpants, but otherwise she won't bat an eyelid 🙂

Fluffypotatoe123987 · 26/09/2025 22:57

Least you ruled out a bowel obstruction

Shakemesexy · 26/09/2025 23:23

Weird posts about immigrants interspersed here but hope you’ve had enough ‘farting in peoples faces’ stories to last you a while op? Come back if you need more!

Quite mental isn’t it? 😂 to be fair I never asked anyone to share farting stories, as entertaining as they have been. I’m feeling much better now though, the bowel issues are ongoing but I’m not obsessively thinking about the doctor anymore 🤦‍♀️

Yes, it’s refreshing to hear you say! Agree its ‘mental’ (although wouldn’t use that word) to think immigrants are living in hotels whilst homeless UK citizens lie on the streets! But hopefully you’ve been educated on that side of things at least from this thread.
