Farage promises to deport people with ILR

1000 replies

Acidburn · 22/09/2025 12:21

Posting in AIBU for traffic.
Nigel Farage stated he would deport anyone with existing indefinite leave to remain. We are talking about millions of people.
This terrifying. If people live here, work here, have kids and mortgages - where are they supposed to go?

Even your own links don’t really support the claim of luxury. From the Express

‘It's good here. I have a nice hotel room. It's one room with two guys in each room.’

Shared rooms, immediately tells you these hotels are not luxurious despite having ‘chandeliers’.

You are not seriously citing James O Brien as providing true facts??

Look, here’s another one:

from the BBC report on 9th August 2025

Asylum seekers recently arrived during the small hours at the wharf-side four-star Britannia International - 610 rooms, but, according to a former staff member, no longer the "luxury hotel" described in some reports. Rumours that they were coming triggered protests by local residents, many of them office workers in the Canary Wharf business district.

Obviously if you put a load of bored single men in a hotel it won’t be ‘four star’ for long.

They have also used country house hotels and weddings etc have been cancelled at short notice. Maybe read up a bit more?

You seriously believe asylum seekers are receiving a 4* hotel experience?

You think these hotels were profitable before they became accommodation for refugees?

I have a bridge to sell you, as Farage already has it seems

In a recent poll only 4% of people said immigration was a problem for them personally.

Most people won't even notice if immigration drops except to complain about being unable to get social care.

You can't use "there'll be race riots" as an excuse to pursue an abhorrent policy like this one

Are we living in the same country?

What is a hotel?
Their doors are closed to the public so it's no longer a hotel.

This post is so embarrassing.

A 4 star hotel is rated as such due to the services it provides.

Do you really think a 4 star hotel used to house asylum seekers still roles out the best linen, offers spa treatments and has a heated swimming pool? Still has a lovely breakfast buffet?

From reliable sources ( as of which James O'brien definitely is ) , can you name me country manors that have cancelled weddings so they can host asylum seekers?.

Schrodinger's immigrant seems apt. I may borrow that phrase.
If I am skilled, I am taking a job from a Brit.
If I am unskilled, I am a leach and benefit scrounger.
If I bring my family, they are a burden.
If my DH comes alone, he is a dangerous single man. If I come alone, I contribute to slave labour.
If I am young, I will use the schools.
If I am old, i will use the NHS.

Love you @IceLollyMolly So Astute.

Why aren’t our governments pressing employers to pay decent salaries that might encourage more of us here to do the jobs, eg carers, and to get rid of zero hours contracts? Give workers stability and the chance of a decent life? I know what migrant carers do, and I see why Brits and permanent residents here won’t do the work; it’s not enough to support families and the hours aren’t family friendly. It would just mean more Universal Credit top ups. I accept we need migrant labour, but we don’t need whole families who will be a burden on our diminishing public funds. Ultimately, money is what it boils down to. And we don’t have anywhere near enough to sustain the population already here. Something has to change. Patronising people who dare to express concerns about this is a sure fire way to send them into Farage’s arms.

I don’t need to deep dive into the figures. I hear about the problems people in my home town experience every day when trying to access our services. Or what’s left of them. I also see one developer, probably a multi-millionaire by now, taking advantage of the asylum situation, buying up entire areas of towns, good housing stock, and selling his soul to the Home Office, taking properties out of the system. I hate people like him, too.

I don’t want a Reform government. But I do want Labour and the Tories to sit up and listen and make realistic changes which will help the situation. Calling people like me a bigot in an attempt to shut us up just won’t wash any more.

I wasn’t intending to be patronising and didn’t call you a bigot. You seemed sensible but have a very different view of this than I do and I wanted to understand how / why our views differ. Asking about the cost / benefit of immigration was a genuine question, as I haven’t dug into the costs myself.

My assumption from my side of the issue is that you could crack down on immigration in the draconian ways Farage suggests - and bring all the labour shortages and human suffering that would entail - and still have a threadbare NHS and public services that are not fit for purpose. Even including family members who are not working, I do not think those sums would add up. But I admit I haven’t checked them which is why I asked if you had. Certainly someone should before we make policy that impacts millions of lives based on assumptions.

I think immigration is a red herring which savvy politicians are using to divide us and distract us from those multi-millionaires you mention creating wealth from our country and paying fuck all tax. Much like the Covid profiteers and tax-avoiding politicians, I can’t understand why those hoarding and off-shoring wealth are not the common enemy of everyone upset about the state of the country.

Targeting immigrants seems to me to be punching down at people who are often the weakest in society (and who we depend on to care for our young, our sick and our elderly) rather than holding the strongest to account for the mess their greed and mismanagement has created. I’m explicitly not saying people who disagree with me are bigots or deserving to be patronised, but I do want to understand why there’s so much public anger about immigrants and seemingly so little about tax-avoidance and public sector profiteering. There could be enough money to support everyone if those who make huge profits from our country paid sensible amounts of tax.

peasporrige · 22/09/2025 21:32

@MsJinks "Anyway, even if they were nicer than I’m saying, do you really grudge that - the rest of their restrictions such as a tenner a week,"

If they have full board, free toiletries, laundry done, what do they need more money for?

The one's I've seen are sat on the wall outside the hotel smoking. At £12 a packet they are certainly stretching that £10 a long way !

Flomingho · 22/09/2025 21:33

Here he goes again. Stirring it up and pouring petrol on the fire. Hope it doesn't happen.

Betty1625 · 22/09/2025 21:34

Im from EU living in UK 🇬🇧 , my kids are British, I have a job, mortgage, lived here for 15+yrs... I had already been worrying as British politics were starting to copy usa, we all know what a state it is now. My fears are being confirmed. My husband is English, he does not want to move to another country. I don't know what i will do if push comes to shove... me and kids move somewhere else? Im honestly scared to see where this is heading.
All of those saying don't worry it won't happen - we said the same about brexit!

Allisnotlost1 · 22/09/2025 21:42

Livelovebehappy · 22/09/2025 20:43

And this will be the downfall of those who appear to be very confident that only the uneducated will vote in Reform. Exactly the same happened with Brexit, but clearly some people just never learn from past mistakes. People generally don’t share their political leanings outside of family, because it’s private. I voted Labour in the last election, but other than my dh I didn’t tell other people. I voted Tory the election before that, but again no-one other than my DH (and now a bunch of strangers on MN!) knew. So I don’t think people can confidently presume how those around them, neighbours, work colleagues etc, are going to vote.

Ipsos have polled on this since 1979. You might keep your cards close to your chest but just under 18,000 people last year told Ipsos about themselves. So we do know about voter characteristics.

https://www.ipsos.com/en-uk/uk-opinion-polls/how-britain-voted-in-the-2024-election

Education level was one of the strongest predictors of voting leave. Leave was highest among those with low or no qualifications and among skilled manual and routine/unskilled workers. These are facts, not judgements or opinions.

ILikeDinosaurs · 22/09/2025 21:44

This will be another Windrush scandal.

Many people from the former colonies (British Empire) like India were INVITED to Britain in the 60s and 70s and they are all in their 80s-90s now, on work and/or state pensions. What will happen to them? Where will they go? They have spent all their best years in this country, working hard, paying taxes and raising their children, most of whom studied hard went to universities and are now also productive citizens of this country, paying taxes and totally assimilated/married to UK citizens in a lot of cases. The majority are extremely law abiding, (despite what the Far Right will have you believe). They and their families are part of the FABRIC of this country, and you cannot break up the fabric of the country without incurring major repercussions and massive civil unrest.

ILikeDinosaurs · 22/09/2025 21:46

On another note, Farage is just like Trump, racist, cruel and greedy to boot.
I suspect he WANTS the NHS to collapse so that he can get his rich cronies to usher in a US-style insurance health 'care' system - thereby making themselves rich. The regular folk won't even be able to afford a GP, let alone a hip replacement. This will be very unfortunate for most of his supporters who are about 70+. I doubt they realise this. No more free cancer care, grandad.

NautilusLionfish · 22/09/2025 21:48

Farage, he of partial German ancestry, his name has either French (Ferrage) or Arabic (Faraj) origins. He is not a skilled worker. Married a German woman (an immigrant he gave a "job" to) and now has a French partner (an immigrant) doubling the number of immigrants he has brought to this country and increasing this dire problem of us immigrants. Where can we deport him and his partners to?

I don’t see how being profitable or not has any bearing on the level of accommodation. There are many factors that affect profitability. Are you suggesting that some of these hotels were making false claims about their rating?

A friend of mine had booked to stay in a perfectly nice looking London hotel but her booking was cancelled and it is now being rented by the government.

Some of the hotels may well be a bit run down but that doesn’t mean they all are. The government will be getting desperate to accommodate 1000 men that arrive most days now.

You make an assumption that the people who will vote Farage in are poorly educated. This is not always the case.

Two types of people support Farage: those who cannot see through his tissue-thin lies because they lack the ability (ie education and knowledge) to do so. And racists. And no, I don't assume racists are poorly educated.

What about his constituency house when she is deported, the one she owns and paid for?

Actually he can be deported to Clacton so they finally see him there.

I don’t believe immigrants should be entitled to the same government benefits as citizens.

That’s my view as an immigrant.

I'm so confused by your insistence on this.

Are you not paying all the usual taxes every working person should be paying? If not, then fine. Don't be entitled to anything. But I am paying taxes and have never yet claimed a penny. What am I paying for exactly if you think I shouldn't ever be entitled to anything?

Agree. Farage is not even ENGLISH. He is of French and Belgian ancestry. After Brexit he tried to get a German passport, was denied and so got a Belgian one instead!!

Who is HE to decide who is and who is not British?

Aah, so now, because certain aspects of the service level offered by a hotel that has been advertised as 4 up until its closure for use by asylum seekers are no longer available, you are claiming that asylum seekers are not being put into 4 hotels??

A bit of a desperate reach, no?

As you can see, the standard of amenities are quite important in the rating:

From the London Hotel website.

A 4 star hotel is defined as a hotel that provides above-average, deluxe service and experience for the guest. A 4 star hotel has a larger range of facilities available and the design is high quality. All service standards are aimed towards pleasing the guest. A 4 star hotel may have some of the following features:

  • A clearly designated reception area, open 24 hours a day
  • A restaurant or dining area that serves breakfast and dinner throughout the week
  • A liquor license and an area where beverages can be served
  • Room service available 24/7, with a cooked breakfast and full dinner option
  • A phone and WiFi service in every room
  • A fitness centre, a spa, or a swimming pool on-site or nearby
  • A concierge service, luggage assistance, and laundry service
  • Spacious and well-furnished rooms, with a minibar, a safe, a work desk, and a flat-screen TV
  • High-quality bed linen, towels, and bath products
  • Extra services, such as afternoon tea, welcome drinks, or turndown service

Anyway - you’ve flagged a further saving, those in care homes are allowed £30 a week pocket money, not sure why they need that - and don’t be deluded good old Reform won’t notice that as they work through their book of undesirable people we can stop funding.

Thumbelina9 · 22/09/2025 22:02

Farage has said himself it would cost a fortune to manage the admin of this. Plus say we lost a large number of health workers say, assume he’s going to invest in training the shortfall? So another cost. Look at the cost of Brexit. I don’t think the country will save a lot of money at all.

I earn what feels like a good wage, and yet I get child benefit. Does that make me a scrounger? Are pensioners scroungers? It’s just not that simple.

I hate Farage.
