Charlie Kirks wife forgives the killer

To people who said her husband was hateful and what they preached was hateful, she just forgave the killer, as God would. Powerful speech.

The messed up young man who thought shooting man he didn't like was the answer, will go to prison and no longer be with his boyfriend. Erika Kirk no longer has her husband and her children have list their father.

It is having an impact on teenagers, my DD hates Trump, is there anyone you can talk to about your DS? A mentor?
Are you in Ireland.

Why @aold a self centered, attention seeking narcissist wouldn’t be an enjoyable life partner. Imagine having a different opinion on simple things, let alone more complex views like politics or medical advances.

I hope that means she'll also ask for the death penalty to be taken off the table.

I certainly wouldn’t. The killer was happy to dish it out, so he shouldn’t have a problem taking it.

But that's not in the spirit of "Christianity" and turning the other cheek now is it?

this thread and many of the posts in it, like this one, are shining examples of what Charlie Kirk was trying to challenge respectfully in civilised debate without throwing around crass insults.

You don’t sound very well yourself, to be honest. What on earth?

I was only speaking for myself, not Kirk’s widow. I’d be perfectly happy with the death penalty if someone had murdered my husband and father of my small children.

Thats her, not him. He was categorically hateful.

So are you. The moment someone disagrees with you on this forum you start spewing venom. People in glass houses.

She can’t. The family of the victim can ask for clemency as much as they like, can forgive the murderer if they want. But they cannot influence the sentence.

So the US isn't really a Christian country then?

All those Christians in the U.S.A. and their love for guns and the death penalty, what's all that about then. I can't wrap my head around it.

I'm not a Christian even though I was Christened without being asked when I was a baby, but I like to think that Jesus existed and was a profoundly good man. He certainly would not have been in favour of the death penalty, so how do they justify it?

The U.S. is not legally or constitutionally a Christian country. Its foundation emphasizes the separation of church and state and prohibits the establishment of a national religion. Christianity just happens to be the more dominant one.

MissFancyDay · 22/09/2025 01:00

I think Erika Kirk has said that it's not for her to say what his punishment should be, it's up to the state.

And yet Christian rhetoric is underpinning much policy both domestic and international. And Trump and co are invoking "God / Jesus" at every opportunity. In other words behaving unconstitutionally?

No need to be offensive but hey you do you.

You've also missed my point but there you go, no name calling from me.

My main point is: wow, after losing her husband to a very public killing, she forgives the killer. That's all. Her speech was from the heart. You may not listen, thats up to you. Many will comment, as I suspect you have, without actually listening to her.

He died less than 2 weeks ago, she’s grieving and I doubt is in a place to really know whether she can forgive her husbands killer. But, these religious types are so caught up in a religious ideology that has told them forgiveness is right, that they say they forgive. Their own feelings are often lost amongst the ideology, and in this case, a political agenda too. It’s very messed up. Someone has been shot and killed, the reality of that is horrendous.

BreakingBroken · 22/09/2025 01:03

many women are NOT in happy marriages and you are assuming she was.
this man would have made family gatherings very difficult, no one likes loud obnoxious opinionated personalities.

She was more conservative than her husband, so it’s likely she would be in favour of the death penalty.

You were incorrect.

And no, they’re not behaving unconstitutionally. As much as you may dislike their Christian rhetoric, their first amendment protects their right to freedom of religion and expression also, just as much as anyone else’s. ‘Trump and co’ are exercising their rights just as everyone else is free to do.

EmeraldRoulette · 22/09/2025 01:08

Has this website been taken over by Reddit?!

Honestly, people saying he had "hateful views". Did all the adults leave the room?I did challenge the first few when it happened, but now I just cannot be bothered. It's that line from
"Give Yourself A Try" I keep posting on here "like context in a modern debate, I just took it out" 🙄 someone even pulled out that thing about the civil rights act without showing the whole clip. Actually, I think they might've just posted one sentence!

I wouldn't agree with half of what he said but he did not have hateful views.

Anyway, with the forgiveness, I'm not a very forgiving person. I'm impressed if Erika can really do that. It's giving me food for thought anyway.

You don’t think it’s obnoxious to assert on absolutely no evidence whatever that this man would have made family gatherings very difficult?

Everyone except late night TV show hosts who are critical of the current administration, that is.

They are stark raving mad. They are getting people killed in the UK we aren't allowed proper news they keep putting the same news on everywhere except the right wing papers keep your kids away from these people they are threatening kids this is not Godly they spare radicalising them

I didn't want to read and run because I suspect that you may have a point but your lack of punctuation makes your contribution unintelligible.

I understand. We all do things in a hurry sometimes but if you could edit it and add the necessary sentence punctuation, that would really help.

Thank you.

BeHappySloth · 22/09/2025 01:11

I disliked the views that Charlie Kirk espoused as much as anyone did, but I don't think any of us can make judgements on what he was or wasn't like as a husband. We simply don't know.

It was not from the heart. It was written by someone else.
