I can't believe the mental gymnastics people are going through on this thread to deny that it's happening.

That’s happening more and more on threads these days.

Should that not work both ways? Yet it seems anything goes as far as Trump, Vance and indeed Turning Point are concerned. People who have the audacity to put forward a different view are increasingly being silenced or even picked up on the street.
Doesn't that concern you?

Do you remember a few years ago when cancel culture as a concept really got going, and people were cancelled/silenced/fired for saying objectively true things? I didn’t see that the left really had a problem with silencing free speech when they were the ones doing it, they just don’t like it now they’re on the receiving end. Seems they sowed the wind, now they’re reaping the whirlwind.

TheExcitersblowingupmymind · 22/09/2025 11:00

There's no such thing as free speech in America as Hesgeth shifting the goal posts for journalists asking questions in the Pentagon.
Anything Trump doesn't like is labelled fake news.
Journalists not being able to freely ask questions in the Whitehouse press room,if anything awkward comes up it's shut down immediately.
It's only free speech if Despot Trump agrees with whats being said.
Yes tragic a man got murdered but people get shot in America every day.
Pity there wasn't the same outpouring when Sandy hook occured.

justasking111 · 22/09/2025 11:14

There's free speech and then there's offensive, vitriolic gutter talk. Less of that would be appreciated by decent people

HostaCentral · 22/09/2025 11:33

I haven't read previous posts, but I found the whole thing chilling. The dignified solution would have been to have a quiet family ceremony, not turn his death into a circus of weird evangelical and political theatre. Calling him a martyr is medieval, like his views.

It's not a stretch from this to Handmaids Tale. America is a mess.

You mean Trump speak ie when he talked about how women like being grabbed on ‘the pussy.’ I agree.

With a sickening letter and illustration just to make his point.

Can you give examples of the ‘objectively true things’ people were cancelled for saying?

People aren’t on the receiving end of cancel culture, they are on the receiving end of illegal government interference in free speech. There’s a big difference. I’m amazed some people can’t see it, or they feel so aggrieved they are willing to accept a government acting illegally if they can get some payback.

KnittyNell · 22/09/2025 12:10

It was beautiful.

GoodTimesNoodleSalad · 22/09/2025 12:43

People who stated basic biological facts were cancelled/fired for stating them.

If the Trump administration is putting pressure on ABC or any other network, it doesn’t necessarily follow that they’re incapable of resisting such pressure. If ABC had considered Kimmel’s comments to be worthy of defending, they could have done so. They chose not to.

It’s interesting that you use the word ‘payback’ - it infers you agree that the left is receiving a dose of its own medicine and doesn’t much like it! Personally I think censorship/cancel culture is a bad idea regardless of whether it’s done by the left or the right.

TheExcitersblowingupmymind · 22/09/2025 13:13

Trump is now pressing for his political opponents to be prosecuted..Well on the road to a dictatorship.

You're misinterpreting cultural pushback for silencing or cancelling. I don't recall the government getting anyone fired and everyone who claimed to be "silenced" has had multiple podcast deals, stand up specials, basically a whole new career on being "silenced" by which they mean cultural pushback.

Hey, everyone! Let’s all criticize how the widow of a murdered man grieves, because this definitely showcases our common decency and makes us look super-normal. 👍

The widow of a man who harassed and mocked George Floods daughter online for years, more than one playing the video of his murder and laughing. I guess we're supposed to believe he didn't make those jokes at home with her either. What you may see as lacking common decency is people having common sense. I think it's sad he lived such a cruel life, but I don't find it super unnormal for people to treat him as he treated others (better actually - I haven't actually seen anyone on her detailing exactly how he died, mocking it detail by detail etc)

You must be reading something different, hardly any pp criticising her .. plenty criticising Trump administration and their version of free speech and women's rights etc.
Fundamentalist Christianity is a scary thing, believing a deity in the sky will be all America needs and Trump is the conduit.🤯😜
There's as British turn of phrase for this.. Fucking Nutter's.👍

People were banned or shut down by private companies, rightly or wrongly, in line with the culture of the day. It wasn't at the behest of Joe Biden, nor was it filled with propaganda and lies.

No I mean Western media comments.

Babybaby2025 · 22/09/2025 15:39

I'm not going to comment on the correct way to grieve.

However, I do believe from a PR perspective many far right top honchos are rubbing their hands with glee at the opportunity to exploit his death and to use his widow as a mouth piece to push their agenda. Which shes doing both willingly and brilliantly. It's clear she's a business woman (which is ironic considering Mr kirks views on a woman's rightful place). But this doesn't mean she's not legitimately grieving.

I thought his murder was horrific and sad, i wasnt able to watch the clip as i dont want to see someones life torn from them despite how i feel about them. But he was a hateful, spiteful and condescending bigoted man. He shouldn't have been killed, but then again, neither should children in school shootings but those kids deaths in his views were just consequences we need to accept in order to protect the right to have guns. He's not a martyr , but sadly, his death is just a consequence of what he fought for.
