It’s “feels like 2” here in Aberdeen, so the heating has been on in the living room from about 5. The other radiators are still turned right down though.

DisabledDemon · 21/09/2025 21:04

It'll be 5 degrees tonight and 4 degrees tomorrow night. The electric blanket will be going on!

Otherwise, we're trying to keep the heating off for as long as possible and I'll be breaking out the socks tomorrow.

padso · 21/09/2025 21:04

@rainbowunicorn I just didn't realise so many people had home thermometers. I am
going to buy one though and check every room 😆

Plastictreees · 21/09/2025 21:05

I’m in Scotland and haven’t put the heating on yet. It’s still 19 degrees inside the house. I never put the heating on until October, but I am someone who enjoys things to be on the cooler side and fresh air.

Wigtopia · 21/09/2025 21:05

Not cold enough for the heating where I am but is just cool enough to have a jumper and slippers on

ACynicalDad · 21/09/2025 21:05

I reckon we will get another 3/4 weeks without it. In London but not the greatest insulation.

This morning when I went out at 8 a.m. it was the first morning I've felt the autumn chill in the air. And although it's been sunny and bright and warm in the sun all day there's been an icy breeze.

Having said that my living room is currently saying 17.5, and thats with the windows open, and I'm comfortably warm enough.
.
My heating will come on when the living room temperatire dips below 13°. I'm hoping that won't be until nearer November but if it's before then so be it.

I totally sympathise with OP and anyone else who dread having to put the heating on because of financial worry.

Edited

Madness. 13 is bad for both you and the house. I know people feel temperature differently but nobidy is comfortable at 13.
Below 18 I need an oodie and a blanket.

Everyone’s perfectly happy in my house - I’m the only one with yhd windows wide open in my room.

Cheers.

We're happy in my house too, with some heat to take the edge off the chilly morning! My tips for the sweating are natural fibres, keeping hydrated and trying to keep a sense of humour about it all (not always easy).

mambojambodothetango · 21/09/2025 21:06

Our indoor thermometer is saying 20 degrees right now. No heating on since about March. Southern England.

Spirallingdownwards · 21/09/2025 21:06

@SouthernBelle21 I said "here" where I am. I didn't enforce not having the heating on for anyone. I simply asked where they were that it was that cold.

What a strange and rude reaction to my totally inoffensive post.🙄🤣

Tastaturen · 21/09/2025 21:01

While your intent wasn't perhaps to feel superior, read back to how you replied to my post and consider how it could be interpreted. As it is, I'm not offended in the slightest though, I'll take note of the opinions of those who actually live in my house. ✌️

Read it. Can’t see anything superior in stating a fact of my own life without passing judgment.

if you’re reading ‘superiority’ then that’s your choice.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 21/09/2025 21:06

Trying to stretch to october. Don’t know why. We have plenty credit. House is 18.5 currently which is around what what we heat to anyway come cold weather but i think temps are dropping. Heating timer is set ( smart thermostat) so if it goes below 17 it will switch on anyway.

Im in Greater Manchester and it’s currently 9/10 degrees so its hardly warm for all those questioning outdoor temps. As soon as the sun goes down it’s chilly.

Molko1503 · 21/09/2025 21:06

Been absolutely freezing the last few days (Manchester) but not caved yet (mainly cause I can’t find the thermostat thingy) 🤣 just been putting jumpers and oodies on and a heatpad on my feet.

I’d much rather be superior, sadly just raging hot in anything over 15 degrees and have been horrible sleep deprived for the past four months.
But you go ahead and continue to find offense in everything

People disagreeing with you is not the same as them being offended. What a daft thing to say.
And, again.
Medicate. It.
Silly to suffer.

It's not just me who read it that way......anyway......

cardibach · 21/09/2025 21:09

spicetails · 21/09/2025 21:00

Hi, are you my GP? If you are please check my records - you’ll find I’m medicated.

Not properly then. If you were you wouldn’t be red faced and grumpy due to perimenopause. Because it would be medicated. And symptoms would be gone. Ask me how I know.

Heating on in the evenings and all night. Dreading the bills.

All night? For how many hours. ?

I grew up in a home without central heating, and my first house had two storage heaters, and nothing else. I didn't get central heating installed until 2013 just before my 3rd child was born.

I can recommend brushed cotton sheets, cellular blankets, hot water bottles and heatpads, which you can buy on amazon. They are very safe, effective and cheap to run. I bought some for all of my elderly relatives so they can keep warm without having to turn the heating up.

None of those things protect the fabric of the house or a person’s airways. 18 is the absolute minimum for health according to medical opinion.

MoominMai · 21/09/2025 21:11

I have a very cold home throughout much of the year and never put my heat on until December-March and then off it goes. In a few years I hope to downsize and be able to afford to have it on more I hope 🙃

Kittyfur · 21/09/2025 21:11

I’ve had the heating on for the last few days.
house felt cold so on it went.
don’t understand this competition of who can last longest before the heating goes on.

I understand if finances are difficult.
would rather do without other stuff than be cold at home

I am not being superior, but factual.
If I have the heating on at night, I wake up with the worst headaches.

(not directed to you) I don't sleep with my windows opened -under a pile of duvets- to make a point, but because I like it!

shuggles · 21/09/2025 21:12

@TheOpalFox It's not cold. Personally, I'm enjoying the cool weather after the very bad weather we had over the summer; it was far too warm.

SpidersAreShitheads · 21/09/2025 21:12

LimeBasilandManderin · 21/09/2025 20:39

That won’t go on for weeks yet, if at all.

If at all?

You go through the whole of the winter without putting your heating on??

What are you, a penguin?! 😂

we had a mini "heatwave" on Friday (not really, but it was around 25, it was nicely warm), really did not need the heating on around here!
