Starmer’s support for Palestine

Steph888 · 21/09/2025 15:39

Am I alone in seeing this as one of the darkest days in UK history?

Never before did I think I’d end up living under a government who reward terrorism.

Starmer and Labour are grotesque. History will not be kind to them. They have now empowered all terrorists and their supporters.

We deserve such better than this reprehensible government. They disgust me.

Disregarding the fact that the proposed expansion will not split anything in two (there's a good video on youtube by Israel Advocacy, clearly showing the geography), that area is not governed by the PA.

You said that Israel is building settlements in areas governed by the PA. That is a lie.

https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/53016-britons-support-recognising-palestinian-statehood-by-44-to-18

The latest one on 19th September said the support for recognition was 44% to 18% against.

Yes, I replied above. ^^

I'm Jewish and think this is long overdue. Palestinians deserve a state, they don't deserve to have the possibility taken away because of the awful action a minority took on 7 October on their behalf.

If the Israeli government did not want there to be recognition of Palestine they could have retaliated without turning to genocide, without mass starvation. It has made me ashamed to feel people might associate me with Israel but most of all made me feel total horror of what they have done to Gaza, actions that betray the memory of my family members murdered by Nazis in the Shoah.

This is only a start, but it's something. I can't say I am optimistic, because Netanyahu has assured a generation of hatred towards Israel from any surviving Gazans - I really wouldn't blame them.

Forgive me, but I thought the Gazans 9were given a state in 2005. The Israelis living in Gaza were forcibly removed from their homes and farms by the Israeli soldiers. Even dead Israelis were taken from their cemeteries and returned in Israel. Hamas don't want a 2 state solution.

Trying to compare the practise of slavery to antisemitism is really disingenuous of you. You must know that?

We are fortunately able to rise above our history.

Antisemetism isn’t history. It was only 80 years ago an attempt was made to exterminate every Jewish person from the planet. Living memory for some people. Again, so very, very disingenuous.

If you want to believe that most people hate Jews then you do you, but I literally don't ever come across them.

I didn’t say the majorly of people hate Jews, but it’s certainly not “very few people”. I don’t ever come across racists, but wouldn’t be so naive or ignorant as to deny their existence.

And just to be clear I know lots of Muslims who don't hate Jews and I know lots of Jews who hate what the Israeli government are doing. The world is such a complex place, isn't it?

Does that seem complex to you?

I didn’t say the majorly of people hate Jews, but it’s certainly not “very few people”. I don’t ever come across racists, but wouldn’t be so naive or ignorant as to deny their existence.

Luckily nobody denied the existence of anti-semitism. But I can see that some people here would prefer the world to be as they believe it to be. Carry on. It won't change the views of the majority of the world who oppose what Israeli government is doing not because they are Jews, not because they hate Jews, but because they hate genocide.

PollyPaintsFlowers · 21/09/2025 17:35

TicklishReader · 21/09/2025 17:29

There are undoubtedly a few anti-Semites among the marchers. No one is denying anti-Semitism exists.

The majority of the people protesting just want the genocide to stop. No hidden agenda.

How many banners are there calling for Hamas to release the hostages then?

Thegreyhound · 21/09/2025 16:54

Did you not notice that most of Netanyahu’s current lot are misogynist, racist, homophobic, violent religious ideologues?

I stand with Israel. They're not the ones raping children, beheading babies, and videoing themselves celebrating it.

EsmaCannonball · 21/09/2025 17:36

SirHumphreyRocks · 21/09/2025 17:29

No it isn't. I am absolutely bloody certain that every country is held to the standard of not committing genocide.

Saying 'genocide' a lot doesn't conjure one up.

There are actual genocides going on in China, Myanmar, Sudan, Yemen, Syria ...... No Jews, no news.

Just starving them and blowing them up. Which is fine, right?

Where did you get this statistic?

It's the finding of a poll by JL Partners and it's been quite widely reported. If you don't like a Telegraph link, do a news search.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/09/20/nine-out-of-10-britons-do-not-back-palestine-recognition/

I must admit it surprised me. I looked up JL Partners but they are registered with the polling regulatory body and I can't see any suggestion that the poll was somehow corrupt. But it surprised me.

Recognising Palestine as a state is completely wrong. We are basically rewarding them for the October 7th attacks.

The Government have supported Israel mainly from what I have seen for the past nearly 2 years….

Shookethh · 21/09/2025 17:36

I’m very happy. This is a positive step. 🇵🇸

EsmaCannonball · 21/09/2025 17:16

Starmer is a terrible, weak, pathetic man. He's played sectarian Labour party politics with a crucial issue of foreign policy, rewarding a massacre and incentivising terrorists to carry on torturing and starving hostages. By appeasing Islamists he has made life in the UK more corrupted and dangerous. Those men you saw barracking and threatening Jess Phillips? They have power over Labour now. The Muslim Brotherhood money and networks are gaining influence.

The Arabs in that region have repeatedly been offered their own state - on incredibly generous terms, disadvantageous to Israel - and have repeatedly rejected the idea, often torpedoing the process with a fresh intifada. These people are more invested with destroying the state of Israel than they are in founding the state of Palestine.

Agreed

Interesting that's it's completely different to the YouGov poll but the exact same numbers as the one the Daily Mail are currently running. Obviously drew from a similar demographic.

So, what's positive about it?

How will it help stop the war?

IMO it's just virtue signalling from Mr Flim-flam

Honesting · 21/09/2025 17:39

TheGander · 21/09/2025 17:29

It is possible to hate Islamic terrorism and be horrified at what is happening to the Palestinians. The ratio of dead Israelis to dead Palestinians has passed 1:50. It’s not just the bombing, shelling, starving. It’s also the harrying by settlers, the loss
of land. As a non Jew/ non Arab, the feeling that any criticism of Israel will be met by suspicions or accusations of anti semitism, that nothing can be said about it, just adds to the feeling of frustration and anger.

I'm curious, at what point do you think it's morally imperative on the Gazan government to release the hostages and surrender?

You really must read different news than I do. There is ACTUAL genocide in Gaza too.

wrongthinker · 21/09/2025 17:35

I take it you haven't watched any coverage coming out of Gaza if you don't think babies have had their head blown off by Israel's bombs, children blown to pieces being carried in bags by other children, or the footage of IDF soldiers raping detainees if you then Israel aren't doing what your listed.

JustSawJohnny · 21/09/2025 17:41

Recognising Palestine as a state is 'rewarding terrorism'?

And what exactly is turning our backs while Palestinians are starved or bombed while queuing for aid?

I have no issue with Jews.

I will not support the current choices of the Israeli government.

If Bush had all but flattened Afghanistan in the wake of 9-11, the World would have had something to say about it.

A terrorist attack, even if truly sickening, does not warrant this.

The people of Palestine cannot all be sacrificed for Hamas.

TheGander · 21/09/2025 17:41

@Honesting my mistake, I was holding the government of Israel to a higher moral standard than Hamas. Who are a terrorist group and outside of any accepted norms of civilised behaviour.

PurpleChrayn · 21/09/2025 17:42

I’m a Jew and I’ve started the process today to move to Israel.

Truly dark times.

Honesting · 21/09/2025 17:39

I think given Israel said many many many many months ago now that releasing the hostages would not stop their onslaught on Gaza, any opportunity for Hamas to do that is long gone. Israel has sold those hostages down the river in their pursuit of destroying Gaza.

The YouGov one appears to be of younger people.
