Previously left, now centre, inching towards right.
People don't hold back on an anonymous forum.
In RL, I'm sure they sit centre/left for fear of being labelled far right.

That's the issue, if you don't agree with the wokerati, you are immediately labelled 'far-right' - people aren't allowed an opinion.

LarkspurLane · 21/09/2025 18:00

Left-leaning but there seems to be a lot more arguing and throwing in of "woke" on threads that are nothing to do with politics.
Much as I hate/d Brexit, the forum was good in those days for remain support, these days there's a lot of insult throwing and lack of respect generally.
I tell myself every week not to open political threads but I keep getting pulled back in.

Isn’t flag flying more a right wing thing and taking them down a left wing one?

Of course you're allowed an opinion, but are you saying if someone disagrees with it they're the 'wokerati'? So, it's ok for you to label their (opposing) opinion as 'wokerati' but not for them to label yours as 'far right'? Seems a bit inconsistent.

childofthe607080s · 21/09/2025 18:03

I do think it’s a little sad when people fall back on “you are left/right wing “ rather than discussing the point / it’s short hand for “I ain’t going to listen” which is pretty sad for a discussion based forum

I was generalising, and I didn't say that.

It's not as if the EDL are going to suggest I am far right if I disagree with the lefties, is it?

🥱 Why yes, you're absolutely right, flying a flag promoting visibility, inclusion and equality for historically (and present day) oppressed and stigmatized groups is right wing.

Right, but your point was that the 'wokerati' won't let someone have an opinion without labelling it far right. Mine was that you're labelling the person disagreeing with your opinion as 'wokerati', which isn't any more respectful of their opinion than you feel they're being of yours.

It works both ways.

Until recently (have been on MN 20 years) I'd have said left-leaning, but now I'd say right. I think the gender critical discussions have attracted more people who are right of centre.

100% agree with this. have also been around 20+ yrs

childofthe607080s · 21/09/2025 18:08

many flying English flags feel marginalised so yes that works for me

This is definitely more prevalent.

OP: I need a new lasagne recipe
Replies
There'll be no lasagne if Reform get in power
Only the left-leaning wokerati don't have a failsafe lasagne recipe
It's lasagna anyway, sheeple, end of
etc.

Is giving instructions to FWR readers about how to more successfully deface pride / rainbow symbols right wing or not?

Or lamenting and ridiculing that the police got involved when people ripped down pride flags ahead of the march?

Can you answer the question I asked you first? It was a very specific one.

Do un-clutch your pearls and give me peace. You are reading into it what you want, I am assuming Labour/SNP voter.....?

Mantari · 21/09/2025 18:15

twistyizzy · 21/09/2025 17:33

Because anyone who disagrees with them is automatically far right

I don't think that is fair at all. I am on the left and don't think or say that.
In IMHO most Tory supporters are not far right, just "on the right". Reform supporters are a mix of being "just on the right" and far right, but all are happy to support Farage's more far right policies and his xenophobia. So that says a lot. Tommy Robinson acolytes are extreme right.

YOU may not but plenty of others have and do!
It is always: bot, far right bot, rascist etc.

CagneyNYPD1 · 21/09/2025 18:17

I’ve been on MN for a good 15 years. In recent months, I have watched as more and more threads and posts become more right wing. The attacks on Angela Rayner. The joining in with calling Rachel Reeves “Rachel from Accounts”. The support for Reform. All of them are among many others that are very revealing.

My gut feeling is that not only are more posters right leaning in their politics but I suspect that more men post. This is no longer a forum for women supporting other women.

ThisCalmLimeZebra · 21/09/2025 18:19

I think it reflects the way the country is going, was previously left leaning and now heading right at quite some speed.

GreatWhiteWail · 21/09/2025 18:19

suggestionsplease1 · 21/09/2025 18:06

🥱 Why yes, you're absolutely right, flying a flag promoting visibility, inclusion and equality for historically (and present day) oppressed and stigmatized groups is right wing.

A lot of lesbian women and gay men,as well as a lot of (left-wing) women don't think pride/progress flags and marches are very inclusive, or about promoting visibility or equaliser oppressed groups.

Many find it actively hostile, authoritarian and threatening to women and people who are same-sex attracted.

No33 · 21/09/2025 18:19

Right

LlttledrummergirI · 21/09/2025 18:20

GreatWhiteWail · 21/09/2025 17:46

Right, well let's work out where we each diverge into our different "wings".

Should women's sport be solely female-sexed humans, or not?

Women's spaces including sports are for women only, this does not mean people can assault someone they perceive as being in the wrong place.
I don't give a shit what your sexual preferences are, be safe, consensual and keep them in the bedroom.
Refugees are not illegals who need to be stopped because they are all rapists.
The thugs that attend events organised by far right movements with involvement from well known fascists such as guest speaker Elon nazi salute Musk are right wing.
Farage has nothing good planned for the country, he will ape his idol- best friend of Putin and Epstein- Trump.
Open borders are not yet a thing, the tories fucked them up in their quest to make themselves, their families and friends rich on taxpayers money.
Reform is made up of people from said Tory party that want another go.
Fundamentalism from any religion is extreme and has no place in politics. Religion is a method of control over the population.
By all means fly a flag on your own property (I do), but joining in the movement to put them on lampposts and roundabouts to intimidate part of society is a dick move and I will judge you poorly for it.

Where do you stand?

Thank you for perfectly illustrating this: attacking Reeves for incompetence doesn't automatically mean a poster is right/far right. Politicians have always been called names and there were some ripe ones for Truss + an especially nasty rascist one for Badenoch but I don't see you picking those up so yes that reveals something about you.

suggestionsplease1 · 21/09/2025 18:20

GreatWhiteWail · 21/09/2025 18:13

Can you answer the question I asked you first? It was a very specific one.

Why, are you going to go through every single trans talking point?

There are plenty of issues that are fair to discuss, and may not be in and of themselves either right wing/left wing. But what you see on FWR is, during the discussion of issues, a tendency to demonize trans people and depict them as criminals / fetishists at worst and mentally ill at best. There is creeping normalisation of discriminatory attitude towards a marginalised and vulnerable group, and yes, that typifies a right wing approach.

Mantari · 21/09/2025 18:21

twistyizzy · 21/09/2025 18:17

Mantari · 21/09/2025 18:21

So, in your opinion, are there no bots of any kind on MN?

I honestly don't care if there are/aren't but some certain posters call out anything that criticises Labour as being a bot post etc. They can not stand their own world view being challenged and anyone who thinks differently to them is always accused of being a bot/far right.
If I think a post is not genuine I tend not to engage. I certainly don't go on calling out "bot" on them.

CreamBeforeJamOnScones · 21/09/2025 18:24

twistyizzy · 21/09/2025 17:51

Why? Just because some people have a different view to yourself?

It's hateful views which I, and other decent people, have a problem with.
