I always think it’s mad how people think there’s more middle class/ rich people on mn, I’d think there’s more poverty/ people trying to scrape by (and I’ve always felt sorry for the wealthier people who get told to read the room!!)

I agree with that. As someone not native to the UK, Mumsnet provided my first real understanding of what life is like for many outside the bubble I live in (London, city jobs)

Not sure. Hard to tell with a large influx of new posters expressing right-wing views recently whether they are all posting in good faith.

This.

Until recently (have been on MN 20 years) I'd have said left-leaning, but now I'd say right. I think the gender critical discussions have attracted more people who are right of centre.

I agree.
Been here for years too, and noticed a slow but definite shift towards the right.
"Gender critical discussions' /FWR where I first properly noticed the creep towards the right, seems to be more prevalent everywhere on here now though.

FairyTalesEverywhere · 21/09/2025 16:19

Mostly liars and fantasists.

EchoedSilence · 21/09/2025 16:20

MN was left leaning when I first joined, now it's swung to the right which is a shame.

I couldn’t agree more.

TheDogOnlyEatsBiscuitsIfTheyreDippedInTea · 21/09/2025 16:23

I think there is a good mix of left and right amongst actual mumsnetters. The recent far right posts aren’t from real mumsnetters, they’re just people who have made an account to cause division.

Why are you asking? Seems a rather goady Q tbh

In what way is it goady? It is a fair question.

I agree with this, I think there is a lot more right wing propaganda being generated now. Three word usernames asking stupid questions to stir things up.

TheAlcott · 21/09/2025 16:27

There are a few right-wing posters who've been here for a long while; they're in the minority and I disagree with pretty much everything they post but obviously I respect their right to have their say.

Sadly there are also a shit-ton of more recent stirrers, bots and outright trolls who post only to goad. It's made MN a less pleasant place to be of late.

TheBucketWomen · 21/09/2025 16:29

I’ve never considered MN to be anywhere on the left or even near the centre.

samarrange · 21/09/2025 16:32

BuffetTheDietSlayer · 21/09/2025 15:39

I don’t believe the vast majority of the recent influx of right wing posters are genuine. They tend to only post on politics, abortion or racist threads, they use the same wording as each other, often similar crappy usernames too, many don’t even write as native British English speakers.

Apologies, advanced British English course is expensive, also fully booked here in St Petersburg until 2027, for now we still work with our imperfect language skills in service of Uncle Vova, hope to improve service soon!

My impression is that the vast majority of regulars on FWR are left-leaning but find themselves politically homeless at the moment because all the left of centre political parties lost their minds some years ago and adopted gender ideology without a second thought about whether it might be at odds with existing rights and safeguarding. The Tories briefly did the same and then backed off when they realised it was not popular with the electorate. They did so many other idiotic and incompetent things that this didn't save them at the last election.

I just want competence, common sense, backbone and critical thinking. I used to think this wasn't much to ask, but now they all seem in very short supply.

You have also failed with username. Should be random three words, example: cherrylobsterbuckle.

SpottyAardvark · 21/09/2025 16:38

MN definitely used to be quite strongly left wing. But, as the political tide has turned against liberal identity politics & ‘woke’, and gender-critical women have won the argument on transgender issues, those who never supported this stuff now feel able to say so more openly & more robustly without the fear of being labelled racist / transphobic whatever.

Good thing, too.

How would you define "woke"?

PrincessC0nsuelaBananaHammock · 21/09/2025 16:40

I don't think right and left mean what they used to mean. I've been called far right for believing in sex based rights and not believing a man is a woman just because he says he is. Yet, I'm a working class, life long Labour voting, person with deeply socialist beliefs. Those beliefs haven't changed since I left school over 30 years ago. What has changed is the left and the way they treat people who refuse to comply without question. The right are pretty much the same IMO.

nocoolnamesleft · 21/09/2025 16:44

I am heavily left leaning. I am also gender critical (or, as I prefer to call it, a biological realist).

Newsenmum · 21/09/2025 16:45

The generation is aging so Id say becoming more centre and right of centre on some issues.

ThatCyanCat · 21/09/2025 16:48

It certainly used to be left leaning but not so much now.

Goldenbear · 21/09/2025 16:53

Is extreme right leaning an option.

Are you assuming anyone who’s GC is right leaning? There are many GC women on here who are definitely not, including me.

You're entitled to think MN leans to the extreme far right but I've no idea why you would.

GreatWhiteWail · 21/09/2025 17:01

Would definitely say the majority of boards and posters, especially the relationship and feminist boards and the long-timers, leans left; proper left, not claims-to-be-left-while-being-authoritarian-sexists.
