……left leaning or right leaning? I think it is more right leaning-AIBU?

Would definitely say the majority of boards and posters, especially the relationship and feminist boards and the long-timers, leans left; proper left, not claims-to-be-left-while-being-authoritarian-sexists.

Are you assuming anyone who’s GC is right leaning? There are many GC women on here who are definitely not, including me.

No, I very much don't think that. I'm disappointed that you think that's what I'm saying, because I tried to word it as neutrally as possible.

EchoedSilence · 21/09/2025 17:04

FWR has definitely moved to the Right.

janehopper · 21/09/2025 17:14

A recent thread would suggest 50/50. I have been very surprised by the amount of reform leaning posts on here to be honest.

FirstdatesFred · 21/09/2025 17:15

I always would have thought Left, but there's a mix

Cparrot · 21/09/2025 17:15

I use to vote green when it was still about the environment. Liberal when they believed in biological reality.
Can’t even state I believe in women’s rights as I don’t agree with abortion after 24 weeks.
I’m politically homeless as support Israel.
Hopefully things will be better by the time of the next election. Otherwise I have no idea other than not reform.

FWR has definitely moved to the Right.

I think FWR shows how many people who describe themselves as left-wing are very immature and (accidentally?) right-wing in their thinking.

LlttledrummergirI · 21/09/2025 17:16

I would say mainly centrist to left, but with an influx of right wing visitors that post a lot and leave/name change regularly.

Why are you asking? Seems a rather goady Q tbh

Don’t understand-what do you mean?

How so?

lnks · 21/09/2025 17:19

I would question the reading comprehension of anyone who think FWR is right wing.

hadjustaboutenough · 21/09/2025 17:28

I think that more people are moving to the right, but it still feels far more left-leaning on MN. People may be becoming more likely to speak their right-leaning opinions because they either sense a shift or have had all they can take and are throwing caution to the wind, but I think the average left-leaning person still feels more comfortable voicing their views without fear of insult, anger, or dismissal, so that may give a false impression.

And yet it regularly has threads and posters disparaging pride and rainbow flags and recently has a thread targeting gay men who use surrogacy to have families ( ie not surrogacy in general just gay men). Which all oddly reminiscent if right wing tendencies, aren't they? Putin would be proud.

Not putting men first is "right wing" in this new world.

Whereas on any objective measure, protecting the provisions women and children depend on for their safety, dignity and fairness is the left wing position.

ThatCyanCat · 21/09/2025 17:01

You're entitled to think MN leans to the extreme far right but I've no idea why you would.

Because anyone who disagrees with them is automatically far right

Actually I think you'll find that attacking vulnerable minorities out of a stated position of 'protecting women and children' is a fairly well-known right wing trope.

You are just illustrating that you don't understand a) what they are saying, and b) that you don't know what left-wing actually means (hint: it's not gay men getting to pay loads of money to lawyers and agencies so that a poorer woman will risk her health to gestate her baby then give it to them)

childofthe607080s · 21/09/2025 17:37

Surrogacy is the problem / nothing to do with gay rights as such and everything to do with using a female body , putting it at risk - certainly surrogacy makes me feel very uncomfortable, just like prostitution makes me very uncomfortable. selling your body feels beyond sad

ladybirdsanchez · 21/09/2025 17:42

I think MN is overall as leftie as it always was. What has changed is that people with more right-wing views now know that they aren't alone and so they feel they can put their heads above the parapet and voice views that they wouldn't have done so before.

Right, well let's work out where we each diverge into our different "wings".

Should women's sport be solely female-sexed humans, or not?

CreamBeforeJamOnScones · 21/09/2025 17:50

I heard Justine Mumsnet on Times Radio earlier this month telling Stig of the % of MNers who say they would vote Reform.

It was quite high, 25%ish I recall, and I thought ugh.

Definitely more bigoted views on here in last year or so. I no longer think of MN as fondly as I used to.

Why? Just because some people have a different view to yourself?

But if someone holds a view, why not stand up for it, popular or not? I don't really understand that mind set. It's the internet, it's anonymous. If you believe something and feel morally comfortable with that belief, why not defend it?

CurlewKate · 21/09/2025 17:55

I’m sitting on my hands to stop myself joining in the discussion-but I do have to add some clarification about the thread about gay men and surrogacy. I am PRETTY sure the OP did not mean it to be homophobic- she was, I think, clumsily, saying that the fact that some gay men are being very public and joyful about their children by surrogate makes it very hard to be unhappy about the process without sounding as if you are targeting gay men specifically. At least, I think that’s what she meant.

Should women's sport be solely female-sexed humans, or not?

Is giving instructions to FWR readers about how to more successfully deface pride / rainbow symbols right wing or not?

Or lamenting and ridiculing that the police got involved when people ripped down pride flags ahead of the march?
