Husbands can’t clean kitchens

dreamornot · 20/09/2025 11:16

Me: Who used the last piece of kitchen roll without getting a new one out?

DH: smugly probably the person who cleaned the kitchen.

Me: Looks left at the unloaded dishwasher next to the dirty sink with a pile of stacked dirty kitchenware that doesn’t go through the dishwasher… Looks right at the saucepan with last night’s mashed potato in it sat on the stove …. Looks down at the dirty work surfaces that nobody has attempted to wipe.

In what world does this constitute a cleaned kitchen?

YABU- Husbands are excellent at cleaning kitchens, this is a clean kitchen
YANBU- Husbands live in an alternate universe where this is considered clean, but it isn’t.

OP posts:

They absolutely can ! Mine does ALL the cooking and cleaning. It’s definitely possible.

Same, I leave him to it but op your husband doesn't seem too why would that make all husbands do something one way or the other?

Oh, there was me thinking he was implying you hadn't replaced the roll (or cleaned the kitchen recently apparently)

Your DH sounds like a knob.

But in no way would I say he's typical. So YABU for generalising like that.

Luckyingame · 20/09/2025 12:42

Lol, YANBU. 😄
You are getting some harsh responses, though.
My 75 yo husband cannot/won't clean like me, doesn't see dust or the occasional spillage in the kitchen.
However, he is very fit and healthy, so does heavy work, shifting furniture, cleaning garage, recently he fixed the roof and has re-done the upstairs (shifted heavy boxes and tools).
So I happily clean the small crap myself.

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/09/2025 12:43

Mine can. Does most of the cooking too because I find it boring.

PinkyFlamingo · 20/09/2025 12:44

Men aren't incapable of cleaning just because they are men. If your DH is useless and lazy that's a problem you have to work out what you do with.

childofthe607080s · 20/09/2025 12:46

Yabu in going from your crap husband to generalising across all husbands
he has a couple of blind spots ( the window sill for some reason ) but he mostly does all the kitchen cleaning
( apparently I have a blind spot some where in the shower. He also does as he misses the soap tray. This is why we tend to take turns)

CurlewKate · 20/09/2025 12:46

They all can. Because it’s not rocket science. Some of them choose not.

FitatFifty · 20/09/2025 12:47

Mine has a very different idea of cleanliness to me. He also told me his mothers kitchen was super clean, it wasn’t.

NoelFurlong · 20/09/2025 12:48

I hate this sexist claptrap. Your husband can’t clean, OP. It’s not ‘men’.

My husband is far better at all things domestic than I am. I’m inherently lazy and also no good at cleaning, laundry or cooking. Does this make my husband think ‘all women’ are like me? No. We’re not homogeneous.

ShesTheAlbatross · 20/09/2025 12:52

Did you not say to him, “what do you mean you cleaned the kitchen, there is last night’s washing up on the sink and the dishwasher isn’t stacked?”

I can’t vote, because your options are ridiculous.

TwoTuesday · 20/09/2025 12:56

Err.. of course husbands can clean kitchens?Maybe yours can't though, or he cleaned it but then it got messy again?

MonteStory · 20/09/2025 11:18

YOUR husband can’t clean a kitchen. Or replace kitchen roll apparently.

You beat me to it.👍

My OH could teach people how to clean a kitchen and as for replacing kitchen towel, a new one magically appears even before the old one has been finished (same goes for loo roll, hand soap, washing liquid, toothpaste, shampoo, dishwasher tabs, bin liners etc).
He is a Ninja when it comes to keeping us well stocked with necessities!😁

user892734543544 · 20/09/2025 13:25

Unless he has an actual mental retardation condition then he knows perfectly well that that isn't clean. But he also knows he can get away with pretending he's compus mentus but doesn't know that a pan with sauce on is dirty.

Allseeingallknowing · 20/09/2025 14:24

Men have a blind spot about putting clean Tea towels out, cleaning the sink properly, especially the plug, cleaning around cooker knobs, cooker hood and the container for washing up liquid. They cannot see greasy fingerprints on cupboards, handles and drawers. They just don’t do the finer points of cleaning, but it’s better than nothing, and if I complain he might stop doing anything. Just don’t get me started on men cleaning toilets!

Again... Men don't have a problem with anything you've listed. Your man has a problem.

afaloren · 20/09/2025 14:33

My DH does a much more thorough job on the kitchen than I do.

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 20/09/2025 14:33

Your husband is a wet lettuce. Mine has just cleaned the entire kitchen PROPERLY, and is now cutting the grass. He doesn't do sitting quietly very well.

LidlAmaretto · 20/09/2025 14:34

Husbands can clean kitchens. Some husbands choose not to clean kitchens so their wives say 'husbands cant clean kitchens' and do it themselves, so then the husbands don't have to clean kitchens. If he lived in his own kitchen he'd learn how to clean a kitchen. Just like other people have to . Women aren't born knowing how to clean!

hungryduck · 20/09/2025 14:36

And chefs! Male chefs definitely know how to clean a kitchen.

jannier · 20/09/2025 14:38

I voted Yabu because you let him get away with it he's capable but doesn't need to as you step up.

Yes. This is not the same as saying Husbands generally (or even unmarried men) can't clean kitchens.

My husband removes the cooker knobs to clean them and the loo seat. Yours just gets away with it.

tinyspiny · 20/09/2025 14:40

My husband can clean the kitchen , he cleans it a lot better than I would if I did it .

FurForksSake · 20/09/2025 14:40

My husband can clean everything better than me. And he does the laundry. And he pays for a cleaner 😆

stayathomer · 20/09/2025 14:41

Is the rest of the kitchen cleaned though (actual question I hate asking but just in case!!)
