To think there is some kind of weird push towards the far right?

I’m the first to admit that I am not the best informed - I prefer to keep my life stress free and simple as much as possible, and don’t have a TV, don’t read papers, and only listen to the radio when I’m driving (which is quite often). For my own mental health I prefer to live in my own little bubble.

But even with my limited exposure to media, I’ve noticed on Radio 2, both on the news and Jeremy Vine’s show, Reform are being given so much air time considering their paltry amount of MPs, the polls are being discussed regularly even though we’re years from an election. More than once listening to the radio I’ve thought the way they’re talking makes it sound like Reform winning the next election is a done deal, and thought to myself that this is how self fulfilling prophecies happen.

My algorithms on FB are seriously messed up. Despite having never been remotely interested in anything in the least bit right wing, all of a sudden I’m getting endless posts from knuckle dragging ‘patriot’ groups that I don’t even follow, with really horrendous and openly racist comments, thousands of them, which somehow FB are allowing to remain even though any kind of hate speech has always been censored on there. Why are these posts suddenly being allowed and pushed in my face?

Alongside this there seems to be a new story pretty much every day about the latest scandal involving Labour (again reported by the BBC), ok these things aren’t great although compared to the Tories’ rap list from their last spell in government, are fairly small fry really. It seems like there’s an active push for people to rebel away from the left just as the far right are gaining momentum.

Has anyone else noticed this or am I talking shite?

I'm sure that this will have been said.

But people are disillusioned with the left, partly to do with their gender identity inclusion policies and other weird polices that they have.

But many people are not moving to the far right but are being labelled as such in an effort to shutdown discussions. You can see this in the CK discussions on the board, anything trans related and has always been the case when race or immigration comes up. .

A big chunk of Reform and Tommy Robinson budgets goes toward communications and engagement, particularly online. Their use of bot farms is enormous. They use tools to identify key words on social media forums and then their bots respond with their talking points on a massive scale. They skew forums and news comments pages to make their opinions most elevated.

This results in 2 outcomes: firstly people see those bot opinions as popular so are influenced to agree. Secondly, the news media also see see the opinions as popular so give them more airtime to chase ratings. It becomes a cycle.

The UK has been identified as one of the top territories in the world other than the US for bot activity where on some social media sites
half of the posters are actually bots.

So to answer your question yes there is a push to the far right. The billionaires and tech bros are making massive donations to these parties in order to steer us into giving away our rights. They do this by having us little people constantly fighting about ‘left’ and ‘right’ when really it’s the mega rich v everyone else.

It's not the only reason, but it's been exacerbated by several years of the Left deciding that everything it doesn't like, including reasonable mainstream views, is far right fascism. Now a lot of people are wondering what's terrible about being far right.

I haven't caught up on the thread yet, but this resonated for me. I think Momentum and Corbyn's crew caused serious harm to Labour's reputation and trust. Even paid-up members (I was one) were not allowed a voice except to cheer the straggle-bearded didacts instructing us on approved thoughts.

When I resigned, having been hounded on Twitter by HQ for believing in biological sex, my lovely local chairman said he sympathised but trusted I would understand he couldn't express an opinion.

Starmer's in an incredibly difficult position. I think he's managing it well but, god, he needs a MUCH smarter PR team!

One day you're going to realise that the liberal publications and forums you frequent have been lying to you.

How on earth can you prove that "a big chunk of Tommy Robinson's budget goes toward bot farms"

In your effort to live a virtue signalling existance, you've lost it.

ColdSalads · 17/09/2025 14:27

Can anyone on the left here actually describe what fascism is, without giving the AI answer? I'd be really interested in reading that and then comparing it to what's going on in reality.

You are definitely not talking shite. You only have to watch BBC news to see the bias. As for question time. It's like a right wing political broadcast.
The right wing have ruined the country, if reform get in the UK is finished. People are acting like the magas in the USA.
But at least that turned out well 🙄
Like trump, farage and tommy ten names love the uneducated.
Because they're full of hate and ignorance. God help us.

Interestingly, I have never been called far right despite my firmly held belief that men and women can't change sex, and that men have no place in women's sports.

I also don't believe in open borders- somehow, I've managed to avoid being called far right for this as well.

I have been called a looney leftiy for refusing to vilify desperate people, unemployed people, disabled people and pensioners though.

Strange.

Why don't you try and read a book on it- explore the subject with a bit more depth.

Did you state any of those opinions on twitter? I got called a fascist daily.

I wonder when the liberal left will start to realise that their words don't mean anything anymore

Fascist, Racist, Bigot, phobe - have all be used so incorrectly for so long they've lost all true meaning to the person on the receiving end.

The spell has been broken kids.

It’s all just noise now. People tune it out.

But that’s the left for you… they give power and meaning to words that they don’t actually possess. They think that if you say it, that somehow makes it so. Not true, as it turns out.

Are you endorsing falsehoods? For what end?

sweetgingercat · 17/09/2025 15:26

Yes I agree. I was listening to BBC radio 4 yesterday and I heard a reporter (I think it was lunch time news) describing the 'normal' people he'd met at the far right march at the weekend. Just because he met a few Muslims here and there, he was trying to make the case for normalisation. I thought it abhorrent and dangerous.

I'm saying that Liebour's policies weren't worth the paper they were written on. So it doesn't really matter what they say their policies are; these are just vote winners. Once they get into office, everything changes.
There's no telling whether Reform will do the same - but I honestly believe they can't be any worse!

I haven’t written my political opinions and thoughts on this thread other than to try and explain why it is, among the people I have spoken to, they would consider a reform vote! Telling 100’s of 1000’s of people they’re only doing so through ‘sheer gullibility’ is the entire opposite to being able to discuss!

I’m glad I don’t vote based on a knee jerk reaction to someone else’s political views? I keep hearing ‘well if they hadn’t called us stupid then…’ ‘well if they’d listened to us then…’

It’s like a child slamming their bedroom door.

Half the time I feel like people on the left are trying to save people from themselves, usually people with less than themselves. Like with Brexit and all of the lies about the money saved by the NHS. Farage has shown his true colours more than once, but, you can lead a horse to water…

Are you seriously taking your info from shit papers? Start doing proper research before you believe everything you've u read, if you read the daily star every week we are going to die because we are going to get hit by an asteroid! Or the Daily Fail which prints loads of shit because it gets them clicks!

These "shit" papers you talk about may well be "shit" to you, but they can't still print anything that isn't true,

Possibly, but I do think that if you're truly trying to change someone's mind, it's not itself a clever thing to keep telling them how stupid they are.

Depends what you mean by "recently"?

The last one hit 12 years ago in 2013.

You have done very well then.

I can only assume that you have not been on Twitter, Bluesky, X. generally any Pride march. And you must cherry pick your MN threads because it has happened here.

The problem is that continually changing the meaning of words, the words themselves become of no value.

Facist
Genocide
Phobe (of many sorts)
Racist
Monster is another that seems to be picking up speed.

Changing the meaning words not only devalues them but changes people's rights.

If TWAW and the word woman has no meaning, then then men have all the rights of women, or conversely women have no rights because men have taken those that are purely about women.

Remember #Nodebate this is where it gets us.
It was also a big part of Brexit (sorry folks but it was)
And even though people still won't learn from the past it is putting reform in a position of power.

Name calling and stifling debate is a major problem.
