To think there is some kind of weird push towards the far right?

I’m the first to admit that I am not the best informed - I prefer to keep my life stress free and simple as much as possible, and don’t have a TV, don’t read papers, and only listen to the radio when I’m driving (which is quite often). For my own mental health I prefer to live in my own little bubble.

But even with my limited exposure to media, I’ve noticed on Radio 2, both on the news and Jeremy Vine’s show, Reform are being given so much air time considering their paltry amount of MPs, the polls are being discussed regularly even though we’re years from an election. More than once listening to the radio I’ve thought the way they’re talking makes it sound like Reform winning the next election is a done deal, and thought to myself that this is how self fulfilling prophecies happen.

My algorithms on FB are seriously messed up. Despite having never been remotely interested in anything in the least bit right wing, all of a sudden I’m getting endless posts from knuckle dragging ‘patriot’ groups that I don’t even follow, with really horrendous and openly racist comments, thousands of them, which somehow FB are allowing to remain even though any kind of hate speech has always been censored on there. Why are these posts suddenly being allowed and pushed in my face?

Alongside this there seems to be a new story pretty much every day about the latest scandal involving Labour (again reported by the BBC), ok these things aren’t great although compared to the Tories’ rap list from their last spell in government, are fairly small fry really. It seems like there’s an active push for people to rebel away from the left just as the far right are gaining momentum.

Has anyone else noticed this or am I talking shite?

I’ll give you an example, assuming you’re asking in good faith.

The Resurrection, Cookham - a beautiful artwork now no longer on display.

Several of the black figures in the painting were criticised for being ‘stereotypical’ - and the artist deemed racist for his depiction of them. However, he lived in a small English village and had never actually met a black person. But he included them in the painting to show all mankind being resurrected.

Long after his death he’s accused of being racist for including black people, yet would have been accused of racism for not including them if he hadn’t. And now this artist is hidden away so no one can enjoy it.

Britain wasn’t always a nation of immigrants. We keep hearing this lie and the hope is that if we hear it enough, we’ll believe it. But it isn’t true, and people resent being lied to, about themselves and their history.

I hardly think a singular painting with caricatures of black people is "our culture". But ok. That's an odd example in my opinon.

Why is 'Working Class' being equated with The Right ?...this has been a concerted campaign over the last few years. Its absolute rubbish and a way to divide us.

Because its the working class who bear the brunt of lack of services, the stagnation of wages, the crowded schools, their communities changing, the lack of being listened to......

How far back are you going though, I mean there was the Aliens Act 1905 as people were anti- immigrants then so how far back are we talking?

Exactly, one of the reasons for the push to the right is that the left have helped demonise and minimise British culture as worthless and something to be ashamed off.

They just don't get that people are still proud of their Island.

What do you class as British culture?

The amazing British music, film, TV, comedy and theatre spheres are championed by the left and decimated and denigrated by the right.

Our history of tolerance and fairness is championed by the left, who want to ensure that everyone has access to health, the social safety net and good public services. The right are have a history of selling public services off for parts.

The left want to ensure that children do not have to live in poverty and that everyone has the opportunity to better their situation through education and employment. The right hoard wealth like Smaug on his pile of gold.

So what is it about British Culture you think the right wing are so good at protecting? Pride in our history of empire and the subjugation of other nations?

Maybe the championing of the working class by removing workers rights and promoting zero hours contracts?

Be specific - what elements of British Culture are the right protecting and the left are destroying and how?

The left is ridiculous.

They can talk about the funding the right get, but mention the funding the left get and you're a Russian bot quoting Putin.

It's as laughable as it is desperate.

Please do elaborate on the dubious funding for the left?

If you aren’t russian bot pedalling all these stereotypical Putin’s cliches, I’m afraid you are one of the ‘useful idiots’

It’s one example of many. But that’s the exact response I predicted! - when presented with an example, you dismiss it out of hand. You’re incapable of seeing the bigger picture.

This is another flaw of the left's thinking. Do you think our Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers would be pleased at the state of the country as it is today? - they'd all would have been on the Unite the Kingdom march

They were too busy fighting fascists. .

ColdSalads · 16/09/2025 10:35

If anything, the only migrants that helped build the UK were Irish. The Irish and the British are the same people, separated only by religion.

Chickenonthebathroomfloor · 16/09/2025 10:36

I’ve noticed this myself. It’s probably that all the tech bros are in with the right wing themselves so their algorithms can push whatever they believe in.

The worst part is that there’s a large chunk of society who are either uneducated or have no critical thinking skills and they eat this all up and then regurgitate it as fact.

ColdSalads · 16/09/2025 10:37

Catsandcheese · 16/09/2025 10:35

The thing is, if you look, it's not really clear who the fascists are anymore.

I see an authoritarian government in Westminster who are giving of distinctly "fash" vibes.

What is the bigger picture then?
Because I feel that our culture is rich enough that don't need to display every single problematic painting.

Do you really think so? Have you any idea who helped us out during the world war? Do you know the history of the St George's flag? If not go and look up these points and come back and tell us you feel the same way.

Who do you think has funded the cultural marxism that has been attacking the West for the last 2 decades?

So when you extol the virtues of multiculturalism, you mean every other culture than ours. And you think this is a winning strategy? 😄

No other country has given so much to the world. We have more than most countries and peoples to be proud of.

We’re no longer listening to people like you, who don’t wish this county well or want the best for British people. You can denigrate us if you like, it makes no difference. We won’t be ashamed of our culture and our history. We can tell the difference between friends who can give constructive criticism and those who just seek to destroy.

I love the history of the St George's flag, it's a battle flag.

What I mean is that our grandfathers wouldn't be as approving of, for example, the trans movement, the lack of Christianity, the changes of the demographs to our communities, the lack of patriotism....they'd look and 2025 and go "what the f**"

George Soros, our grandfathers…

Also - the Tate removed it to re-evaluate how it was displayed in 2022 - actually following controversy over a different painting - not the Ressurection.

They have not ruled out re-displaying it in the future- which given it is classed as a visionary art work it is highly likely to go back on display at some point.

Art Galleries and museums have thousands of works that are not on display and which get rotated in and out of exhibitions.

The controversy around it was blown put of proportion in order to accused the Tate of being 'woke'.

Its not too dissimilar to the health and safety gone mad stuff - where something with a kernel of truth was over exaggerated to make a point.

The abolition of slavery and what that cost the country is not taught in our schools. Something to be truly proud of.

Especially when slavery is flourishing in almost every corner of the world today.

Since when are awful drawings of black people "our culture"? Not everything ever done by a Brit is a representation of culture. What a daft thing to say. We've got galleries full of art work, not everything can be on display.

It is very clear who the fascists are. They’re the ones telling you that your lives are ruined because of a few tens of thousand people crossing the channel, seeking asylum. Ignoring the fact that the legal migration is a potential problem but as our birth rates don’t support the population we do actually need migration. But don’t let the facts get in the way of your already entrenched ideals, Reform are going to sort all this out for you.
