To think Keir Starmer is toast as soon as the state visit is over

Just that really. If it wasn't for the visit he'd probably be gone already.

OP posts:

Don't be daft, the next election is four years off.

Exactly.

I think he won't be PM by 2029's general election though, it will be another Labour Prime Minister.

Birdh0use · 15/09/2025 21:58

Will Diane A take over? If not, who?

whimsicallyprickly · 15/09/2025 21:58

He'll be gone next Summer. Unless the May elections go really well for him

Entirely possible, of course.

The OP however is misguided wishful thinking.

We are so used to the previous Conservative governments defenestrating Prime Ministers like it's going out of fashion that I think the country has got used to the idea a year is a long time. You might not like him but who do you think would command 20% of the MPs enough that they want to unsettle the government with four years to go - let alone actually want the job?

Northquit · 15/09/2025 22:05

He looks like he's had a hair stylist and a fake tan.

Getting ready for looking for a new job perhaps?

ilovesooty · 15/09/2025 22:06

This is seemingly this week's edgy topic for discussion.

IMissSparkling · 15/09/2025 22:07

Leave the man alone to do his job!

Going by this logic, Trump is permanently in the jobs market.

CrushingOnRubies · 15/09/2025 22:33

I think that Starmer will last till the summer but we start hearing murmurs of votes if no confidence and 1922 committees in the next few weeks. Think it might depend on what reaction he gets during the conference.

Pinkcherry26 · 15/09/2025 22:38

1922 Committee? FFS, that's the Conservatives!

THIS. Everyone needs to calm down.

As only the Conservatives have a 1922 Committee, we won't be hearing from them, no. Unless they decide that Badenoch has been in post far too long to continue as Tory leader.

Only just learnt this. Is there a Labour equivalent?

IvyTwines · 15/09/2025 23:08

There's such a lack of talent in politics these days there is no obvious successor at the moment - Andy Burnham would be popular, but he's not an MP.

80smonster · 15/09/2025 23:16

I reckon gone by Christmas, possibly a sacrificial lamb for the October budget announcement?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/09/2025 23:23

This is all so stupid and so boring. He's been in post for a year. The Tories screwed the whole country over for 13 years. There's no general election due and nobody in Labour ready or able to take over. If the media would actually let him govern without baying for blood every few days, we might actually have chance to appreciate that we're not watching the Tories shit all over the country anymore.

And if people aren't careful, they'll be helping that twat Farage to more power - and anybody who thinks he's the answer is part of the problem.

OonaStubbs · 15/09/2025 23:34

Starmer has been a massive disappointment so far. The problems with Mandelson and Ovenden should have been dealt with internally long before now. As it is, it seems like they've only been dealt with once the issues became public knowledge, which is bad.

NapoleonsToe · 15/09/2025 23:38

My money is on either Wes Streeting, or Andy Burnham if a suitable by-election comes up. I don't think there's any chance of Starmer being leader by the time of the next election.

Obviously he can't do his job and needs to see ENT over those adenoids.

Noticed tonight all the beige has gone and his hair is now steel grey. Combed and fixed to within an inch of its life, the American way.

SummerEve · 15/09/2025 23:51

I would hope he stays put. The revolving PM door is no way to run a country and we can’t just keep chopping and changing if we don’t like it.

This. Are people still pretending they don't know how General Elections work?! 🙄😁
