To think Keir Starmer is toast as soon as the state visit is over

Just that really. If it wasn't for the visit he'd probably be gone already.

OP posts:

I would hope he stays put. The revolving PM door is no way to run a country and we can’t just keep chopping and changing if we don’t like it.

This. He needs to steady the ship for a bit. The last 12 months has been so volatile and a few political gaffes on top it feels like he's not had any time to do the day job, just been firefighting.

OonaStubbs · 15/09/2025 23:59

I'm 48. There were 5 PMs from when I was old enough to know who the PM was until I was 40. (Thatcher, Major, Blair, Brown, Cameron). Since Cameron there has been 5 more PMs (May, Boris, Truss, Rishi, Starmer).

I just don't think the right people are getting into politics nowadays.

Birdh0use · 15/09/2025 21:58

Will Diane A take over? If not, who?

David Lammy as he's the deputy PM. Then Labour would have to have a leadership election and the successful candidate would become PM.

TheLeadbetterLife · 16/09/2025 00:04

They're not the fucking Tories, get a grip. In any case, no-one else will fare any better, the right wing press and SM troll farms have been absolutely ruthless with Labour since day one. It won't change for anyone else. They won't be happy until Farage is in and the system is finally broken beyond repair. No-one has been able to keep the shitshow together since Brexit, and constantly changing leaders only to immediately tear them apart isn't going to solve the crisis. Fucking mental country. Maybe Putin will nuke it and bring us all sweet relief.

OonaStubbs · 16/09/2025 00:24

Labour need to stop moaning about the right-wing press. There's always been a right wing press, they know about it, they can't act surprised. The Tories have to deal with the left wing press.

Friendlygingercat · 16/09/2025 01:53

I do not know the Labour mechanism to remove a leader but I believe it will go something like this. Defeat/rebellion over a major piece of legislation and then a call for a vote of no confidence. That will be the beginning. I predict welfare, immigration or some of this ruinously expensive net zero nonsense.

This.

GabrielsOboe · 16/09/2025 06:39

If there is a God, yes.

LittleAlexHornesPocket · 16/09/2025 06:46

Labour doesn't have the same mechanisms to get rid of their leader like the Tories do.

For Keir to go, there would need to be a viable person ready to command support from a significant number of MPs.

This person doesn't currently exist.

So, no, Keir won't be gone after the state visit or any time soon.

Did you also dismiss the possibility of Rayner’s demise?

A day is a long time in politics, currently.

I think that Starmer will last till the summer but we start hearing murmurs of votes if no confidence and 1922 committees in the next few weeks. Think it might depend on what reaction he gets during the conference.

I thought we were talking about Starmer?

Exactly. SM, including MN, is full of what you describe, especially over the last couple of weeks.

He might go in May though if the elections go badly.

An absurd post - hugely disrespectful to those with MH issues, and wishing the country suffers a thermonuclear strike?

My goodness.

MushMonster · 16/09/2025 06:54

I used to think that we were done with the change of PM whenever their party feels like. I hate it!
But now I am not so sure Starmer will do the 4 years, if he does not wake up. I think he started with good strong ideas and he has turned into an amorphous nothingness with no back bone or path to follow.
I want to see their manifesto pushed forward boldly and efficiently. And him acting like a leader, rather than an old cushion. We can only hope.

Is that all you’ve got? Ridiculous post.

Whiteumberella · 16/09/2025 06:58

At best, Starmer has shown himself to be a very poor judge of character. Rayner, Mandelson, that revolting oink who sent sexually explicit texts about Diane Abbot? These were all close members of his team, “trusted advisors”. I have zero desire to see Farage in power, the Tories are in no way credible opposition but I cannot see how Starmer can hang on. Labour need someone credible to steady the country, we need stability and growth which we currently do not have.

You make light of MH issues and wish the UK to be destroyed FGS.

KhakiTiger · 16/09/2025 07:03

The sooner he goes, the better.

Tow Tier’s achievements so far:
Highest unemployment in years
Highest taxes since WW2
Highest food inflation since CoL inflation in 2022
Businesses going to the wall due to NI increases
No growth
GDP per capita recession
Highest ever boat crossings
Tech and pharma companies running to the door to leave the UK
House building is even lower now than under the Tories (Angela was too busy buying houses for herself)

But hey he’s finally figured out that a woman
cannot have a penis and there’s now enough armed police to be turning up in packs to arrest comedians at airports.

To be honest, if it wasn’t so tragic, a comedian could have written this shitshow of a satire.

If Keir is revealed to be embroiled in a similar level of scandal, then that would be a different matter.

But that's not what OP is asking about. He isn't going to step down and be replaced after the state visit just because he's unpopular. Again, that isn't how it works in Labour.

The Tory system that we've become familiar with (1922 committee etc) is very different.

Agreed but the news flow is moving rapidly.
Anything is possible.

Remember, we have the budget on 26th Nov
which will prove calamitous.

He certainly is revolting, but to be fair Starmer couldn't have known about them, they were sent in 2017. Who leaked them and why now is the question.

Also, strange how the right wing press and politicians suddenly care about Diane Abbott. Usually they are the ones insulting her.

KhakiTiger · 16/09/2025 07:10

More specials from Two tier:

The housing minister resigns after dodging, wait for it…tax on her house

Anti corruption minister resigns for being prosecuted abroad for corruption

Anti homelessness minister reigns for making her tenants homeless

Unfortunately the transport secretary let the side down by resigning for insurance fraud. She could have been more comrade like and continued the trend by, I dunno, nicking some trains or buses or something.

The chancellor in the meantime is done with all that, with allegations that she was fiddling expenses in her job at a bank and bunking off during work time. And nowadays just fills her time plagiarizing books and lying on her cv.

Personally, I have zero interest in DA, but I do care about the integrity of those in office, as should all
of us.

This government is being dismantled, brick
by brick - all self inflicted.

Agree with you on that post.

Op maybe or perhaps it’ll take longer. Labour are circling but they don’t really have the mechanism. They could just not be behind him as he stays.

Don't be daft, the next election is four years off.

The next significant elections are in May in Wales & Scotland. Starmer is not on the Ballots but they will decide his future.
