Supermarket accidentally delivered an extra bag wants me to store the contents for 4 days aibu

I had an Iceland delivery on Sunday morning quite a lot of stuff so never noticed extra bag( though it did have my name and order number on it ).
I emailed customer service just to let them know in case they wanted to send driver back to collect it , driver was lovely and hated idea of him getting into trouble for the mix up .
They emailed me yesterday asking for a list of items in the bag , it was mainly bread items a loaf , baguettes, rolls , muffins , a 6 pack of hula hoops and a pack of noodles so all in all not an expensive shop probably around £12/15 in total .
i did offer to drop it back to my local store . Anyways they have finally replied now asking for me to be in on Wednesday so they can collect , Aibu to be a bit irked at this ? My flats tiny and although only two bags that’s two bags taking up space in my kitchen that I need to keep kids away from as well as the dogs .
would I be unreasonable to email requesting them to collect sooner or to let me donate the items to local food bank ? Tia

YABU, it’s Tuesday tomorrow, I’m sure you can find somewhere to keep some bread and noodles for a few days. Doesn’t have to be in the kitchen.

Nursingadvice · 15/09/2025 21:36

That is absolutely ridiculous of them. Tell them they can collect it but it’ll be staying in bags, not in your fridge or freezer.

LadySuzanne · 15/09/2025 21:36

If you are being asked to store the contents of the bag for 4 days, then the loaf, baguettes, rolls and muffins will no longer be fresh?

Surely for a low cost bag, they should have offered them to you for free or to donate? I would not have thought it worth the driver's time to collect these items, especially as the baguettes and rolls will be stale and will likely not be put back on the shelf or sent out again for delivery?

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 15/09/2025 21:36

1 bag or 2?

Also if it's mainly bakery then it's going to be out of date/past it's best by Wednesday

It had your name on it. I'd have left it tbh

SirHumphreyRocks · 15/09/2025 21:37

"I won't be in - your bag is behind the bin"

friskery · 15/09/2025 21:38

Surely they're not going to take it back after it's been in someone's house for 4 days anyway?
Tell them you'll leave it outside the front door tomorrow morning and they can collect when they like but you won't be staying in.

jonthebatiste · 15/09/2025 21:38

I wouldn’t mind storing them but I absolutely wouldn’t be stopping in for them!

DervlaGlass · 15/09/2025 21:38

I would definitely just say sorry no I'll be at work (because I would). Seems mad of them not to just write it off.

SpiralSpiritSocks · 15/09/2025 21:39

I’m really surprised.

I’ve had additional items delivered at various times by Asda, Tescos and Sainsburys. I always let them know and they all said please keep the items for free as they aren’t allowed to take them back once they’ve been in my home for any length of time.

louderthan · 15/09/2025 21:39

That is crazy. It’s their mistake! Just say you’ll be out on Wednesday

Sadly with a Labrador and two year old not many places are safe , also have the issue of having to be available on Wednesday they can’t give time frame .
i have offered to drop the bag off at the shop which would solve all of this .

This cannot be true?! Why would they want to collect stale food?

BramStoner · 15/09/2025 21:40

No way would I do this. I also struggle to believe they can resell items in this situation- I certainly wouldn’t accept things that had been in someone’s house for days, could have been stored inappropriately, could have been tampered with etc.

It’s a ridiculous request, just say no.

SandyY2K · 15/09/2025 21:42

I'm surprised they didn't tell you to keep the stuff. That's ridiculous of them. Iceland can absorb that loss.

CameForAVacationStayedForTheRevolution · 15/09/2025 21:43

Tell them it’s on your doorstep and they can get it whenever.

Originally one bag but I’ve put it in two as it was bursting at seems 😂.
Yeah that’s the strangest part the breads best before is Wednesday ironically .
I’m going to email saying as much surely letting me donate to food bank is better than it going to waste they can’t possible sell it surely .

I wish I had just left it I just felt bad for the driver/picker .

I'd tell them it's not possible- they can pick it up, you can drop it back, or it can go to the foodbank.

Yes exactly my thinking I have two cats and two dogs so right away a risk of allergies etc , I can’t believe they would resell but then don’t see why else the would be insistent on collecting 🤯

This!
No chance!

madgreenlemons · 15/09/2025 21:52

I think they’re going to collect it and chuck it away. I don’t reckon they’d be allowed to resell. They probably just think you actively want them to take it off their hands. So just tell them no and donate to food bank

MsFogi · 15/09/2025 21:57

Tell them you ca. Leave it outside the door now and they can collect when they like or you can stay in for them to collect but your hourly charge is £230 an hour with a minimum 4 hours (paid up front). Why do businesses think people’s time is worth nothing?

It’s crazy the breads best before date is Wednesday and the muffins and rolls etc will definitely be stale by Wednesday .

This might be it but I did say in email that I was happy to drop bag off at store or even pay for it and keep it , I think il email again tell them they can collect it tomorrow or I will donate to food bank before it all ends up going to waste anyways

I do have sympathy on this. You’ve tried to do something good and honest and the company giving you a load of mad inconvenience no doubt due to their own stupid bureaucratic rules

MyOtherProfile · 15/09/2025 22:04

When this happened to us and Tesco left us a rather lovely bag of nice wine and cheese I rang them straight away - and they told me to keep it!
