I had an Iceland delivery on Sunday morning quite a lot of stuff so never noticed extra bag( though it did have my name and order number on it ).
I emailed customer service just to let them know in case they wanted to send driver back to collect it , driver was lovely and hated idea of him getting into trouble for the mix up .
They emailed me yesterday asking for a list of items in the bag , it was mainly bread items a loaf , baguettes, rolls , muffins , a 6 pack of hula hoops and a pack of noodles so all in all not an expensive shop probably around £12/15 in total .
i did offer to drop it back to my local store . Anyways they have finally replied now asking for me to be in on Wednesday so they can collect , Aibu to be a bit irked at this ? My flats tiny and although only two bags that’s two bags taking up space in my kitchen that I need to keep kids away from as well as the dogs .
would I be unreasonable to email requesting them to collect sooner or to let me donate the items to local food bank ? Tia

Their reaction is totally bizarre, as soon as it’s out of their hands they can’t guarantee its safety so it’s just got to be disposed off. I don’t understand why they didn’t apologies and say if you don’t mind please use or dispose of the the items. Strange

One Christmas, I got my asda order delivered. And it had... I shit you not... 4 extra carrier bags FULL of bags upon bags of frozen brocoli and cauliflower, that i didn't order. It must have been for a care home or something . They told me to keep them and even apologised for the "inconvenience"(?!) I ended up ringing round friends / family and knocking on neighbours doors offering them a bag of crimbo veg. Felt like Santa!

Iceland are being ridiculous.

DBD1975 · 15/09/2025 22:08

Just take it back to the store if you are happy to do so, you don't need their permission.

ChekhovsMum · 15/09/2025 22:09

Would they ask a man to stay in on a weekday so that they could come and get their bread?

that’s exactly what I was expecting especially being such low value items , I’ve had similar happen with Asda and Tesco and they always just tell me to keep or dispose of it , though funnily enough I had very similar issue like this with Iceland about 7 years ago they delivered someone else’s full shop instead of mine including frozen food and asked me to keep it till next day stupidly I did it and didn’t question it 🙈 , I was more irked I had to go buy something for dinner as none of my shopping arrived .
I should have learned my lesson from that .

Sometimes it doesn’t pay to be too honest 🤣

I once had a delivery from Amazon with 4 of the (fairly cheap) item I’d ordered instead of just the one I did order. I got in touch and explained what had happened but after lots of to and fro on the online chat, they wanted me to wait in indefinitely for a courier to collect the 3 they’d delivered in error, so in the end I just stopped getting back to them. I couldn’t spare a whole day!!! to wait in from 7-7 when it wasn’t my fault! They never bothered chasing up the conversation, so don’t think they really cared!

Would they ask a man to stay in on a weekday so that they could come and get their bread?

Or to send a list of the incorrect items with quantity. It actually feels like they’re taking the piss!

pinkstripeycat · 15/09/2025 22:12

It’a anyway. There’s NO extra S.

CautiousLurker01 · 15/09/2025 22:14

Whenever this has happened to me I am told to keep or donate the items - they cannot redistribute/re-sell them for safety reasons so would have to be binned.

They are being ridiculous.

They haven't asked OP to stay in though! That seems to be a slight exaggeration on OPs part, according to her screenshots they've messaged to say they will 'attempt a collection on Wednesday'.

As they were low value ( quickly expiring ) items I wouldn’t have bothered telling them

Imisscoffee2021 · 15/09/2025 22:19

Seems unusual as it's been out of their hands so may have been tampered with (obviously you haven't but you never know) so they can't legally sell it now. Usually a shop would say oh well and redund the customer who didn't get the goods and let you keep them or dispose of as you wished.

I suppose that’s true technically but If I want it returned I will need to be in on Wednesday , I have offered to take the bag back repeatedly and they have not responded 🤷‍♀️.

I also told them I will be working on Wednesday but they can’t narrow down a time frame .

Ask them what they plan to do with the food?

CasualDayHasGoneTooFar · 15/09/2025 22:27

They won't be able to sell it, so there is no point them collecting.

OriginalUsername2 · 15/09/2025 22:27

YABU for putting yourself out this much. Offering to pay, multiple communications. The customer will have requested their refund. If you had just kept them there would be less work for you, customer service, the manager and the delivery driver.

EastEndQueen · 15/09/2025 22:28

Bizarre. Ocado once delivered not just an extra bag but an entire large and expensive weekly shop. It was just before the first Covid lockdown so it was a mix of panic buying (6 bags of bottled water) and shrove Tuesday ingredients (posh jam, maple syrup, lemons etc). I was working overtime at the hospital dealing with the impending chaos and DH just assumed I had forgotten to tell him the Ocado was due so let it in. The shop just told me to keep it as they couldn’t resell it now

herbalteabag · 15/09/2025 22:29

I would have just eaten it or donated it and not bothered telling them. Bread only has a short shelf life anyway, so four days later will hardly be worth it. I definitely wouldn't agree to be in for them unless I was already going to be there.

tartyflette · 15/09/2025 22:29

I had an Amazon/Morrisons groceries delivery yesterday which had two items missing, plus six extra items I hadn't ordered. (They were bulky so made an extra bag.)
I phoned Amazon (their online returns service could not cope with anything more than a simple refund) and the customer service rep was very efficient, arranged a refund for the two missing items and told me to keep or donate the extra ones.
I would not have been happy with any other solution.

In that case ignore their e-mail, if you are not in, I doubt they will chase it up

Yep I feel silly , I just didn’t want someone getting into bother for the mix up , obviously in retrospect I see that they couldn’t really have taken it back and given it too the intended customer 🙈.
Really wishing I just hadn’t said anything , in my defence I also didn’t realise how low value the items where until I was asked for the list as I had just left them in the bag till then .

I would have done exactly the same

Queen0fTheNorth · 15/09/2025 22:33

I'd have told them to take a running jump after their first email asking you to list all the items. I'd have said its a bag of food. If they want it they can come back at my convenience, otherwise they can whistle for it.
