Supermarket accidentally delivered an extra bag wants me to store the contents for 4 days aibu

I had an Iceland delivery on Sunday morning quite a lot of stuff so never noticed extra bag( though it did have my name and order number on it ).
I emailed customer service just to let them know in case they wanted to send driver back to collect it , driver was lovely and hated idea of him getting into trouble for the mix up .
They emailed me yesterday asking for a list of items in the bag , it was mainly bread items a loaf , baguettes, rolls , muffins , a 6 pack of hula hoops and a pack of noodles so all in all not an expensive shop probably around £12/15 in total .
i did offer to drop it back to my local store . Anyways they have finally replied now asking for me to be in on Wednesday so they can collect , Aibu to be a bit irked at this ? My flats tiny and although only two bags that’s two bags taking up space in my kitchen that I need to keep kids away from as well as the dogs .
would I be unreasonable to email requesting them to collect sooner or to let me donate the items to local food bank ? Tia

You have been more then reasonable just tell them no and eat it. This isn't your problem its their mistake and their expecting you to give up your time to fix it.

Choppychop · 15/09/2025 22:38

So strange! This happened to me once, got an extra bag of shopping, it was with Ocado, when I called up to see if the driver could return to collect it they said to keep it for myself at no charge as they couldn’t accept items back to sell once it’s been inside someone’s house. It’s classed as ‘contaminated’. It was a pretty lovely collection of food too 🤣

ButterPiesAreGreat · 15/09/2025 22:43

Tesco have given me extra stuff before. If I notice when they deliver, I give it back. If I don’t, they always say keep it. Weird to expect to collect it off you!

Queen0fTheNorth · 15/09/2025 22:46

I regularly get bonus items in my click and collect order. This week it was a nice pack of trout fillets. I only give it back to them if it's something I don't really want. Even then, they usually say to keep it as they can't resell it anyway.

PyongyangKipperbang · 15/09/2025 22:51

you know what they say, no good deed goes unpunished!

Ironically if you had posted on here before contacting them saying "Should I just keep it?" you would have been called a thief!

I would send one final email stating that they can collect between (say) 10 and 12 tomorrow or you will dispose of the items yourself. I would bet a tenner that they tell you to keep it.

valentinka31 · 15/09/2025 22:56

This is madness. They can't sell food that's been 4 days in your freezer!!

PersephoneSmith · 15/09/2025 22:58

I’d be eating those muffins OP!

BerryTwister · 15/09/2025 23:01

I would reply and say “I’m going to be out on Wednesday, and as I live in a flat there is nowhere safe to leave it. I feel I’ve gone above and beyond to try and rectify your error, but I’m not going to inconvenience myself any more.”
And then I’d eat the food!

tulippa · 15/09/2025 23:02

I've learnt from this thread to never order an Iceland food shop delivery as it could have been stored anywhere before it gets to me!

😂 I’ve been guarding them from the kids since yesterday morning ,the 4 of them keep eyeing up the snacks .

Ocado wouldn’t do this - they have told me to keep an item in the past . They cannot resell it. And I wouldn’t be inconveniencing myself, so I definitely wouldn’t be waiting in for them to collect.

Yes that is concerning isn’t it , they seem very intent on getting the bag back, I’d imagine if they did intend to bin the items they would just tell me to do so .

What a palaver!
I once did an Asda click and collect shop, back when they bagged it for you. When I got home I realised that they had given me double of everything in my order. I rang and offered to return but they told me to keep it. I had to give a lot away, but that is proper customer service.

It has came from local store which I was surprised as well but had local store name on the delivery tracking .

No I haven’t asked for them to collect I said l it was there Incase driver needed to collect it I even pointed out wasn’t a great amount just didn’t want anyone suffering because of it , I then offered to drop it off , or even pay for it .

I hope the person who ordered the stuff gets it or refund .

Tell them you've made a mistake, there's no extra bag.

PiggyPigalle · 15/09/2025 23:16

Have you told them the only available space you have is down the side of the loo.
Must be the trainee you spoke to and all for under £15.

I was genuinely considering doing this 😭

Let them have them and don’t answer the door / be in when they come to collect

Yabu for using an emoji in an email to a stranger

2021x · 15/09/2025 23:19

Collect all of the information.

Raise a complaint- in full and copy in trading standards if possible.

  • You expected them to come and pick it up straight away
  • You can't gurantee appropriate cold storage
  • The bag was lableld incorrectly
  • Their solution compromises their quality and cold storage.
  • This has greatly affected your trust in Iceland as fair trader.

What you want them to do

  • Write off the food
  • Provide you with assurance that an investigation of labeling and packaging at this branch as been reviewed.
  • Provide you with assurance that they are overseeing the distributions as food and a copy of their policy.
  • Apology for the customer service

I wasn’t worried about being formal it’s just a casual email I was trying to keep it light , I’m not emoji user in professional settings .

An hour before they arrive, tell them there was a substitution or two, and swap some of the items for something really random…

I mean it’s not customer service it’s just easiest for everyone. Why would they waste time and money to collect food just to bin it - which they legally have to?

Op I think someone is having a laugh at your expense. And I can’t believe you listed all the items with the quantity!
